Long day. Just getting longer.

I've been remiss in checking the MET free streaming schedule. A couple of things of interest next week:

Monday, Aug. 24 - the "Las Vegas" Rigoletto which I enjoyed enough to probably sit through a second time.

Sunday, Aug. 30 - the new post-Zeffirelli production of Falstaff -- which I haven't seen, so, now I'll have to for free. Oy!

While there was a train on the tracks this morning I was very pleased there was not a truck stuck on them.  It was very scary yesterday thinking we might see the train hit the truck.  The train did pass through 5 minutes after the truck got off of the tracks.

You were mentioned last night in a reunion of the LA production of Naked Men Singing. The referee to Varese and Bruce (forgot your last name) that you were approached to record the cast album because you did The Gay 90s. But you eventually turned them down. Can you explain why?

I have two truck stories:

1. My Birding Buddy and I were driving on a one-lane dirt road that had two places to turn around; one was about 8 miles in, and the other one was about 11 miles in. After that, it was an unmaintained narrow dirt road through desert mountains for about 40 more miles.

So we are on our way out, and we come up behind two semi-trucks hauling portable buildings. Not mobile homes -- these were quite a bit bigger. Our guess is they missed the road they wanted, and they couldn't turn around anywhere. They just got onto the road at the 8-mile mark, luckily for them. We followed them out, watching them hit bottom a few times and barely making the switchbacks.  We still talk about that day. My only regret is that I didn't take any photos. I didn't think it would be nice to take photos of someone else's misery.

2. We were camping in a remote canyon with no cell phone reception when we heard an awful CRASH early in the morning. I went out to see what happened, and there was a HUGE semi-truck that got damaged crossing the little one-way bridge. He had blown out most of his tires. We told him the shortest way to get out -- the first couple miles had switchbacks, but after that it was a straight road.

He didn't make it out. The flat tires slid off the dirt road on the last switchback. The road was blocked for a couple of days until tow trucks were able to get him out. Luckily we had just gotten to our camp spot the day before, so we had plenty of food. We would have been fine for a week. He wasn't injured, but the truck was destroyed, I heard.

It's a family saying now: "We'd better make sure we have everything we need, in case a truck goes over the bridge."

I really enjoyed the role call last night, but a couple of them, like the Mississippi lady, seemed to be out of synch.  I really loved seeing Matthew Shepard's parents in Wyoming.

Me, too!  I saw Judy Shepard speak twice...once in Seattle with my then-boyfriend, then I ushered for her Washington Center sponsored speaking engagement here in Olympia.

So, BK, was the guest either Victoria Clark or Judy Kuhn?  It's no loss in either case.

My bet was Ron Raines.

I forgot about him.

My brother Randy called last night around 8:00 and we talked for about 30 minutes.  He got an email from our realtor saying there were two interests in the property.  Let us pray.

We see trucks come down here all the time, driving right past the signs that say no large trucks beyond this point. Watching them turn around tends to be frustrating & sometimes worrisome but never like yesterday.  I too don't think it is nice to take photos, plus I really wouldn't have wanted to video a train wreck.

That's funny that they remember that.  I turned them down because I didn't like the show or the songs.  I gather it ultimately changed a bit before their long run in NYC.  Had I known that run was going to happen I might have, but the Gay 90s sold about three copies so I just wasn't in the mood

I'm up, I'm up - eight hours of sleep overall.  I was up at nine after five hours and then back to bed at ten and sleep thirty minutes later.  It's hot.

Awoke to several emails - the Scenie Awards came out today.  LOTS of 'em.  The  Man Who Came to Dinner won quite a few including Best Actor and Actress for Jim Beaver and Hartley Powers, for supporting Michael Gabiano (he played Banjo when the show was reviewed by this guy), Kay Cole, Chris Winfield, and Susan Priver and the entire company for best ensemble (understand there are multiple "winners" in EACH category) - I haven't seen the list but I know our costume designer won an overall award for ALL his work, and then I got one for directing The Man Who Came to Dinner.  In My Mind's Eye got only one, I think, breakout performance by a lead actor - Bobby Slaski - and well deserved, I may add, but for my money the entire cast should have gotten one, especially the two female leads, Kait Haire and Peyton Kirkner.
