Mono notwithstanding, this is simply the finest performance of Fall River Legend I've ever heard and I've heard 'em all.

It was a weird night of sleep and a weird night of dreams involving friends from different times and places. I awoke around 11:30 with terrible leg cramps so I needed to get out of bed and stretch a bit. I noticed Annabelle was no longer sleeping beside me. Usually she lies dow on the pillow next to me between 9:30 amd 10:00, and I assumed - since I was asleep - that she stayed there all night. So, I went back to bed and she jumpled up beside me, and I assume she was there all night.

I was awake several times and whenever I woke, she was still with me.  Around 4:00, when it got really cold, she crawled under the blanklets and slept at my knees.

I had one dream in which I was working on a talent show and we were seeing acts, A friend from Miami University Summer Theatre around 1970, who now teaches voice in North Carolina, was one of the performers. In another dream I was riding the subway with our DR ChasSmith and my late acquaintance Richard Traubner to attend Die Fledermaus at the Met.

Today's a busy day. Amazon Fresh is delivering groceries aroud 9:00, Joshie is coming by to pick up the score I finished, and my neighbor Jen is coming by to assemble a rolling cart for me. I also want to make pasta sauce if there's time.

DR elmore3003's post reminded me that I needed to place a grocery order, too.  That is now done, and there was a delivery slot for this evening, not too late.

My Amazon Fresh delivery was scheduled for some time between 9:00 and 11:00.  It was deliovered at 8:15. WTF?

I was not amused,  I was on my hands and knees on the bathroom floor cleaning the litter when the delivery rang my bell. No, I was not amused.

DR JohnG, I haven't read about Ambroise Thomas and his opera Hamlet in some time, but my memory is that the original ending of the opera was the coronation of Hamlet as King of Denmark, and his final lines were something like "My love is dead and I am king."  This ending was revised when the opera was produced outside of France; they knew the English audiences would laugh their buitts off.

I do love Ophelia's mad scenel it;s not just a coloratura spectacular, but it reaches real pathos by the end.

I'm also fond of Thomas' mangling of Goethe. Mignon, which has wonderful music and great tunes. The overture is beautifully orchestrated:

It also contains my favorite French coloratura aria:

I’m glad they changed the ending. It’s not as action-packed as Shakespeare’s. But there’s a rightness to this version, which has the ghost come back at Ophelia’s graveside and force the mortally wounded Hamlet to avenge his death. The ghost doesn’t care about his son, only vengeance for his own death.
