I took this last week as a semi staycation. There was no place I wanted to go, but I needed a break. I indulged in many of my favorite foods, spent less time keeping up with the news (too negative!), and spent more time doing what I like to do and less doing what I think I should do.

That sounds like a good staycation.

I must say this Rodzinski stereo Nutcracker is a wonderful performance, but the honor for best must go to Antal Dorati, his stereo version, recorded on 35mm magnetic film with such clarity and beauty, and mastered for CD from that original source. It's really the benchmark for me, much as I enjoyed Previn and Rodzinski.

We went to Beaches for dinner.  After years of saying I would try their pizza I finally did.  It was very good.

When we first moved to Washington we stayed in a residence inn type of place.  While it had a refrigerator the stove was rather useless and there wasn't an oven.  We usually ate lunch, vs dinner, at a restaurant.  Beaches was always for lunch and we had the same waitress every time.

Today was the last day for that waitress to work.  She is going to another restaurant.  Unfortunately her shift there will end at 2:00 which is a bit too early for us since we rarely eat lunch out anymore.  We will miss her.

So, the children’s ballet of Swan Lake was very much like Nutcracker with children in every available spot. The music had been cut to about 80 minutes. The prince and Odile were good. The kids were cute. But …

But they had a professional photographer whose camera sounded like someone typing on an old Selectric typewriter. I was half the theater away and those acoustics made everything miserable. One of the service managers told her, and she ignored him.

I’m now sitting outside a Puerto Rican food truck waiting for a plate of mofongo with fried pork on the side.

Today was Needle Day (acupuncture), then the bank, then I picked up some lunch.

Bet your needles were better than mine yesterday.
