I ended up doing fixes on the Nothing in Common script - we're now on Reading Script.3 and I hope that's it. I felt strongly that the character of a young girl disappears early in act two and never comes back. She's really lovable and it just didn't feel right to me. So, I talked to the writer and he agreed and he quickly wrote a little scene based on what I thought it should be. Then I rewrote it, he liked it and we put it in. I had to go over the entire script with the fellow who'll be reading the stage directions, so that took forever. As we were going through it, I realized that there was some dialogue in the middle of a song that we musically had no time for, nor did it belong there - so I moved it to before the song and now the set-up of the song is much stronger for that.

I have been listening to music as I've been working: a wonderful two-CD set of Saint-Saens orchestral music, all of it unknown to me - beautifully done, great music, and great sound. And then Richard Strauss's opera Friedenstag, either his final opera or his penultimate. I like it.

Tonight's event is the Johansen Olympia Dance Center. They had seven groups, and each group actually performed twice in a row.

The first time was essentially each group's final dress, and parents/audience could take pictures or film that first time through (no flash, of course).

After that's done, I think I'll listen to Troilus and Cressida by William Walton - I've only heard the Chandos recording, which I didn't love, but this is the original recording with Lawrence Foster conducting - maybe there was an earlier one? I do think Walton conducted one but think it was excerpts. I'll have to research.
