Finished disc 2 of Cher, where Michael Jackson tried to upstage Cher every chance he could. And Lily Tomlin was just wonderful.

Back in the 1980s, Tomlin had relatives in Kentucky and often spent time with them. During one semester when I was at UK, she brought the in-progress Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe to the theater department and presented staged readings of various versions of the script over the course of a week or so, and she spoke at a number of classes. As theater critic for the paper, I got to see every performance and was in one or two of the classes. It would be a couple of years before I saw what Jane Wagner used in the final script. It wasn't necessarily my favorite material, but it made sense.

Tomlin was great the whole week, and her people couldn't have been better with the students they worked with on sound, lighting, etc. It wasn't just her group coming in and dictating things.

The theater holds 988 seats, but they limited the number of tickets sold to only 190.

I did get some questions from people who were going up to the balcony, and I tried to explain what I could as best as I could, but it didn't seem like there was any trouble.
