I'm not surprised Matt as it does require a lot from the viewer. I hope there was a resolution of the story lines at the end of the second series. Too good for TV.

DR Jane, it was mighty warm up here in Salem today as well...and at 8:53 pm it is still 83 degrees.

Since I have a 4 day weekend I will get a head start by popping into my dvd player my first Bollywood movie of the weekend....in honor of actor Sunil Dutt who passed away yesterday at age 75 I will watch his 1966 costume love story/action film AMRAPALI...the story of a court dancer and a warrior who fall in love in the 5th century B.C.

Oy, the burning of my eyes! The air conditioning at the theater this evening was far from kind to my contact lenses. If this is any indication of what I can expect, I may just have to do some nights blind (unless, of course, our director decides Charlie can wear glasses...). My kingdom for some eye drops!

Our wonderful DR Ann, seeing that my eyes are in no condition to venture out, has gone herself to get some eye drops at the store! I think I'll keep her around.

I just got back and it was a great production...great actors, great set, pretty good costumes. I read the Director's Notes in the program (reprinted on their website). Here's a couple of paragraphs explaining what they did:

The Duke, instead of being "The Good Guy", is an echo of the Puritan God that would create men and women with irresistible desires, make laws against succumbing to those desires, threaten them with eternal torment for doing so, then playing the kindly father figure when he forgives them. Angelo and Isabella, instead of being "evil" vs. "good", are simply human, both trying desperately to find spiritual purity through the denial of their physical selves, but discovering through each other the "monsters," "beasts," and "cowards" that lie within us all....

Since I've never seen the show before, I can't really judge how effective their version is compared to a more "traditional" version. I did enjoy it (even with only getting about three hours of sleep this morning
