From Tom:
Quote
They have located and destroyed a third killer hornet nest here in Western Washington.  Those are really ugly cattle.  Is any other state finding these monsters?

Yesterday, as Keith's swelling finally began to go down, we said at least these are not what attacked him.

OMG, the rainstorms last night, especially around midnight when I'd planned on being asleep -- incredible. Twice within the time span of a few weeks, the first being the "remnants" of Ida, we were hearing what sounded like the hardest rainfall EVER.

Today is sunny and clear and certainly cooler. Oh yeah, that was something else, too, last night. The temperature and humidity were relatively high, and the air was soaked. Soaked air. Yep. Had to run the A/C for a bit in my bedroom just to quit feeling sticky, even though the actual temperature would have been perfectly comfortable otherwise.

Wonder of wonders! It looks like it might rain here.

I'd be happy to get out the buckets. We need more rain.

So, the AC lady never called back as promised, but the roofer guy did email that he was resending the estimate. So it sounds like she called him.

I will be scarce here at HHW tomorrow because I will be traveling with my DH to his high school reunion.

Which is a great sacrifice on my part, as I'm pretty sure I wouldn't even want to attend my OWN reunion.

I have a friend here in town who, like me, did not grow up here.  Her husband, my husband, and DR Elmore all graduated in the same high school class and my friend and I like going to their reunions more than they do.  For the 50th, Richard saw to it that we were in France when that party was scheduled.

Okay, sit down, everyone. Just sit the HELL down.

Are you ready for this?

I went out to the car to go pick up the pizza we're sharing for dinner, and ..... my car battery is dead.

Fortunately, I figured out what ran it down, and I need to avoid letting this happen:  The car has an automatic light shutdown that kicks in when the car is turned off but the headlights (for example) are left on. After several minutes it turns them off to protect the battery. I know that works, in fact, because I inadvertently "tested" it once.  :D  But that protection apparently doesn't extend to little interior lights, and I have found the culprit.

Tuesday night, arriving home after rehearsal, I'd shut the car down but I wanted to look for something, so I turned on the two little "map lights" above the dashboard, found what I wanted, and blissfully got out and went inside. Next day I drove around on some errands just fine. What I didn't know was that those lights, unnoticeable in daylight if you aren't looking right at them, were still on. But the battery hadn't died after only one night, and it was getting nicely recharged since I was driving again. But then two days went by without me using the car at all, and another 48 hours of those little suckers being on is what it took to drain the battery.

Dumb, dumb, dumb. And now we'll be calling AAA for our second battery charge this year. Oy!

BK:  um...(ahem)... I'll take a link to that charger you bought, if you don't mind.   8)

I'm not calling AAA until Kristi has picked up the pizza and we've all had a nice repast. Then they can come out and I'll drive it around to fully recharge it.

I'm up, I'm up - was up at seven after three hours of sleep, back in bed at eight-thirty, up at one, refused to get up, and up at two - so I think I did get eight hours of sleep - I needed it, but I need more.
