I saw it at the National sometime in its first week or so, on an evening when the film stopped on them. Or they had to stop it to fix something, I forget what the problem was. No matter. I was very impressed with a lot of it, but let down by the silly humorous bits and the endless (supposedly) comic shrieking of the heroine. I didn't watch it again for quite a few years. When I did, I appreciated the "Anything Goes" scene all the more, but was even less thrilled with the rest. Now in present day, I can ONLY watch the opening scene, and feel regret at what happened with the rest. Such great design, ideas, and set pieces -- and it's all the biggest letdown.
