HUMMING ALONG TO THE TUNES OF ANTON WEBERN
« on: February 09, 2022, 12:36:51 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were twelve-tone notes in the atonal style, and now it is time for you to post until the twelve-tone cows come home.

It was freezing in the apartment last night. Annabelle spent most of the night next to me, buried under blankets. As I type this, she sleeps on my computer table in an empty Fancy Feast carton. Thatch found someplace warm to sleep in the apartment, and Stella spent part of the night lying next to me as well.

Today, after radiation, I have my usual Wednesday session with Dr Blacksburg, my radiologist. We have much to discuss.

Pip the Beach Cat lives in Maryland, but  one of his parents is Polish and the family is ion Poland for several months. Here's a shot of Pip in his carrier with his Daddy and then a photo of Pip and Daddy sledding down a hill while Pip's Mommy sleds behind holding his carrier. He's a much braver little boy than my Thatch.

Lots to do.

Very little incentive to do it.

Good morrow, gentle folk.

I was wrong about last night's low temperature.  It actually got down to 31 degrees, but it is now 36 degrees.  I am promised lots of sun and a high of 59 degrees for today.

I am only 15 minutes out of bed.  I slept beautifully.

It's really nice to be able to do that again!

Am having my first cup of coffee.  I usually have only one, but lately have indulged in a second cup.  It gets cold quickly when I am also typing and thinking of what to type.

It’s supposed to reach 73 today. To reference a Bob Merrill lyric, I look forward to drying my tears with the sun on my face.

I love the Bob Merrill reference.

I like the sun.

I sometimes sun sneeze, though.

Anyone else sun sneeze?

Does anyone else here have a mattress warmer on their bed?

It's one of the greatest things I've ever found.

Even when it is super cold, the bed can be pre-warmed to be luxuriously inviting.

It's not a blanket.  It's a mattress cover.  There are electronic controls that can sit on your bedside table.  You control the degree of warmth with a dial.

Oooh....it's just wonderful!!!

We did our fair share of Webern in school. I still have a few scores and that Robert Craft box which I'm sure I haven't touched in ... 50 years? I don't remember one note of it now. Of course one note was a major part of one piece, right? This post is already longer than a few of those pieces, and BK came up with better ones than I ever will, so I shall stop right here.

I'm a sun sneezer from way back. And an eye squinter, which I remember being from our first few months in Florida in 1960. Sneezing, squinting, and I also can't abide eating in direct sunlight, indoors or out. Take that, you bad old sun!

I daresay Pip the Beach Cat has none of those issues. Look how contented he is in that carrier. And he's not sneezing. Or squinting.

John Cage...anyone?

Well, he wrote that one piece that is quite lovely. Here's a particularly inspired performance:
