My! There are a LOT of titles with Mayday on Amazon Prime. But I think I've found the right one.

When I think of stage or screen disasters, I love to remember Frank Rich's New York Times review of the rock musical Marlowe, from 1981. His review begins:

WHEN everything goes right in a musical, the audience feels a rush of exhilaration that is the quintessence of Broadway. And what happens when everything goes wrong? Well, when everything goes wrong, another kind of giddiness sets in - that same slaphappy feeling that comes when Laurel and Hardy send a grand piano crashing down a flight of stairs.

Such is the perverse pleasure offered by ''Marlowe,'' a wholly ridiculous show that is much more fun to sit through than many merely mediocre musicals.

And it continues:

Like such famous Broadway fiascos as ''Kelly,'' ''Rachel Lily Rosenbloom'' and ''Rockabye Hamlet,'' this one has the courage to meet vulgarity far more than halfway. If ''Marlowe'' isn't quite a classic of its kind, that's a matter of size, not content. Tacky-looking and sparsely populated, this show lacks the Titaniclike splendor and expenditure of Broadway's all-time fabulous wrecks.

There's more, but here's another choice excerpt:

The scraggly chorus of Elizabethan ''chroniclers,'' wearing Day-Glo tights, performs dance routines that might be ragged run-throughs for a Jordache jeans commercial. They inhabit a balconied set that suggests just how 16th-century England might have looked had cellophane, aluminum foil and Con-Tac paper only been invented back then. The sound-alike ''rock'' songs recall high-school band improvisations, circa 1965. Because of the acoustical feedback, static and rumbles, the lyrics are often garbled. The few that do surface - ''Good guys and bad guys couldn't deny / Marlowe was king of the gadflies'' - make one regret the loss of even a single verse.

Oh, what the heck. One more excerpt:

Don Price, the director, has assembled the very cast the material demands. With his open shirt, glittery vest and leopard boots, the pelvis-thrusting Mr. Jude would be the toast of any small-town shopping-center disco. The rumpled, miniskirted Miss Mordente has two expressions to go with Mr. Jude's one, and she reacts to her lover's death with all the sorrow of a 16-year-old who's discovered a small run in her stocking.

I guess the Amazon Fresh fiasco was a ported for the remainder of my day. The only bright spot was the arrival of Vegas Can Be Murder. The day lurched along quietly until I fed the cats around 2:30. Shortly after that, my stomach did a somersault that said, Head for the bathroom.

I made it in time, which surprised me because my left leg, which might have a bit of tendonitis in the ankle, made walking painful when I put pressure on it. When I thought everything was okay, I went back to the living area to finish the printing I had begun before I was sick. Shortly after that, ,y stopmach made another turn, and I almost made it to the bathroom before I was sick again.

So, I had to remove my clothing and clean up the mess, which thankfully wasn't much since I'd already had my big moment. I just kept thinking, Let me get through the cats' treat and lie down. I also kept thinking, If I'm dying, make it quick.

I fed the cats their treat, just around 5:00 and went to bed, where I lay wondering if I would habve one more crawl to the bathroom. I sorta watched MSNBC, which I do not recommend when one is sick because the Trump news only makes me more sick and angrier. At 8:00 I went to bed. I slept well until 11:30 and then spent the rest of the night dozing and cuddling with Thatch.

I remember the Marlowe artwork outside the Rialto Theatre, which was just north of the 42nd Street subway station. I think I saw the mediocre revival of The Canterbury Tales there.

DR John G, thanks for the update on Patricia Sinnott. I did a quick check on Google yesterday for an obituary and found nothing, but I sure worry about her.

Got another running-around hell day, with an afternoon rehearsal in Norwalk and a long evening sitzprobe in Fairfield.

A four-hour sitz on a weekday evening is unusual in my experience, so this will be interesting.
