While checking out at Fred Meyer today the guy behind us had a great cake he purchased for his son's 11th birthday.  It kind of looked like this.

That is quite clever and probably perfect for the son.

When the movie first came out in 2011, were film-savvy people here generally aware that the 2011 movie called "Just Go With It," starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, was a remake of "Cactus Flower," which starred Walter Matthau and Ingrid Bergman, and Goldie Hawn in her Oscar-winning supporting role.

I guess "Just Go With It" was a real hit, even though not well-respected:  It grossed over $200-million, with an $80-million budget, according to wikipedia. 

When I watched it on TV, I thought, boy, this premise sounds familiar - and then saw it was an actual remake of "Cactus Flower."

Do not recall hearing that ever. A stealth remake.

That could be a genre:  stealth remakes.

Why can't those in the business remake bad movies and make them better?  Why are good movies remade that turn out to be crap??

I suspect they don’t realize how good the good movies are — or why they’re good — and think that their take will be better. (Remind you of anyone in politics? )

Yesterday I had lunch with my friend Jan. Her birthday is tomorrow and we often celebrate our birthdays together. Her husband has an inoperable tumor and has chosen a Death with Dignity approach. When he decides it’s time a social worker will arrive and provide a powder that can be made into a drink. He will then go to sleep permanently. I’m glad he has such a humane option, but it still isn’t easy. Jan understands and respects his decision. Definitely puts a damper on a birthday lunch, but I’m glad she could take a much- needed break.

This is very sad, yet I think it is wonderful that California has a Death with Dignity option.

Jane, since I’m not a fan of birthday cake, except for the beautiful, non-caloric kind that are posted here, I ordered a couple pastries. A nearby bakery offers a Kringle, which looks nothing at all like an almond croissant, but tastes rather like one. It’s a good substitute.

The condo I’m trying to buy is the best of what I’ve seen for my needs. The price the owner wanted is much too high. He’s come down, but not enough. I’ve asked for comps, then will see if we can meet in the middle. I’m tired of looking and would like this done.
