I like the A & T publisher very much, but we had a telephonic discussion yesterday morning that led to a day of angst and anguish. I had been keeping notes on discrepancies between text and audio, which was fine. In some cases, he changed a word and I liked his choice better. In other cases, I had found spots where the narrator had begun a phrase, stopped and then began again, and these need fixing. Anyway, it turns out that the publisher would like a marked up printout of the text wutg everything noted. I wish I'd been told this a week ago, because I am now back to square one. That's neither here nor there; I just needed to print out a copy of the book.

So, I began the printing, and around page 80, due to my carelessness about finishing the printing and getting the cats and myself dinner, I ended up with a paper jam. The printer stopped and the next three hours of hell began.

I have this new HP laserjet M234 printer, which Jen set up for me, and I knew nada, zilch, nothing about takoing care of it. And of course, everyone I knew who could help me out - and I called them all! - was away for the long weekend. I went to the HP booklets, all of which had print too light to read; I went to Google; I made more phone calls.

INTERLUDE
While I was looking through my address book for possible computer / printer-savvy friends, I ran across the name of our DR vixmom! I had meant toearlier to check on her, so I did. She says she's been knocked flat by the pneumonia but she will return.

INTERLUDE OVER!

Now, I'm pretty printer savvy from my many sessions with Staples printers, so using a Google "HP M234 printer paper jam" search, I finally found charts from HP on procedure, and I took the printer apart. I got half of the jamed paper out from the back of the printer, leaving behind a jamed and torn off half a page. After several further examinations, I found the toner cartridge, removed it, and pulled out the paper. I put everything back together, tried to print something as a test and the printer would not work; it was now offline. What the fat hell did that mean?

So, I spent more time getting the printer online. I was ready to kill. When I thought it might be back online, I wentr back to hte computer, and the screen was black. No matter what I did, it would neither turn on or light up.

Then, I decided, maybe thecomputer had become unplugged while I was jerking anmd dragging the printer around the table? So, I got on my hands and knees painfully and very slowly and crawled as far as I could under the computer printer table. The last time the computer had become unplugged, Jen came down and helped me out, only Jen and Ann are away until Tuesday. I couldn't find a problem or the correctplug, the pain was killing me, so I got up and called my friend Chris Coluzzi, who happened to be home and promised to come over this morning and help me out.

I cleaned up the cats' dishes, gave them fresh water, and lay down to watch TV and not get up until this morning. At one point I looked at the computer screen - it was around 6:00 - and the computer screen was lit up! I got off the bed, went to the computer, and tried to make that test printing. The printer was offline. I then wrestled again with the printer, pulled the plig out of the printer, waited 30-40 secondsa, plugged it back, and I was online. I m,ade the test print and that worked. I resumed printing the copy of A & T.

I had around 120 pages left to print, and things were humming along until we got to page 180 or so. The print grew fainter and the last pages had a bald spoint in the middlew of the text. I was running out of toner. I paused the printer, pulled the toner cartridge and beat it on the table top. When we went back to printing, I got enough toner loosened to print more pages. The print grew faint around page 200, with only six pages to go.

I went tro Amazon and looked at HP toner cartridges: $61.00. I ordered one, hoping I was buying the correct one. I pulled the dying toner cartridge, shook it, beat it againt the table, and got enough toner to finish my printing. And that was my shitty day.

Even with all the printing the draft tsouris - This is all sounding very promising!  This is the same publisher as Paul Ford's book and Stephen Cole's recent book, isn't it?

Everything seems to point to success, and a reason to look forward to what the future holds!

Reading about DR Elmore's day has completely worn me out. I think I shall have to take it easy today.

Weird dreams of running a convenience store that was part of a Succession-like war. It was stressful.
