Surprisingly, I had five hours of good sleep, 8:30-1:30. After that, it was nodding, dozing, and cuddling with Thatch. The last hour was difficult because the pinched nerve took over and my keft hand went painfully numb; ut only ended when I sat up. Annabelle abandoned me for her summer nights in her mountain chalet in the bookcases. Stella, whose heavy coat must not be pleasant in the summer, prefers to sleep on the wooden floor.

This is an Amazon Fresh day, so the cats and I now wait for a delivery. I hope it arrives closer to  6:30 rather than 8:00,

This morning I am hopefully doing the laundry, depending on how how I can get to the basement. I also need to call Access-a-Ride for a Monday appointment. I'm hoping Monday is not another Con Edison close-off-and-tear-up-the-street day; I've got to get out and start moving again.

I'm still seething over the six Supreme Court justices; between them and Pam Bondi, Rule of Law is tragically becoming a myth. Every day I feel more like Mme deFarge, sitting under the guillotine and watching the GOP administration heads roll.

Amazon Fresh arrived shortly after 7:00, and it took me 15-20 minutes to unpack and put everything away.

TOD:  I'm pretty sure I first saw the first Planet of the Apes movie on TV with commercials.  I caught up with it on the large screen IIRC at a movie revival house in Cambridge MA in the very early 1980s, and I certainly appreciated it more, when I was older and with an audience (and the big screen must have helped)

Planet of the Apes....saw them all.

The first one I saw at the Westlake Drive In......the line of cars to get in was a mile long and it took us awhile to find a parking space.

There were four of us and we all loved it.  I haven't seen the first one in awhile, but I think I have a DVD set of a few of them....I shall have to investigate.

I saw the Planet of the Apes movies on TV as a kid. Enjoyed them thoroughly. Never saw one in the theater. Saw one of the reboots. Was bored.

I am beat. And I've got a lot to get done today, not least of which is playing straight through my Evita book, and then loading everything into the car for tomorrow. Lots of other stuff, too, though.

Chas, and other EVITA followers, did you see that even the New York Times is covering the London EVITA playing "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina" to the (non-paying) crowds in the street outside the theater?

"REPORTER’S NOTEBOOK
The West End’s Hottest Seats: The Piles of Trash Outside ‘Evita’

Crowds are converging outside the London Palladium to watch Rachel Zegler sing “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” from a balcony — while paying theatergoers inside see it on a screen."

TOD

Planet of the Apes opened near the end of my first year at school, and for whatever reason, I didn't go to see it then. I flew back home to Fort Lauderdale for at least part of that summer, and finally decided to join the partay. I don't know if it wasn't still playing in the theeders then, but I went to see it at a drive-in. Totally enjoyed it, and I think it's amazing that I hadn't even known about the surprise ending beforehand. That sure couldn't happen nowadays.

That was it for me, though, I didn't keep up with it and I never saw the four followup films until the age of home video. I think it wasn't until I had the set on DVDs that I finally binged on them. Had a great time doing it, even though they weren't worthy of the first. But, still fun. I also recall liking the documentary about all of them that I believe was one of those good ones from Fox Movie Channel. I forget what those were called, but I think this one was hosted by Roddy McDowall.

Yes, I'm aware of the London Evita goings-on and have been amused by the whole circus.

And I got a new blurb for the book from Liz Callaway!
A love story for the ages—whimsical, touching, and delightfully theatrical. Starring two talking cats and a Broadway orchestrator who found family in the most unexpected way. Perfect for musical theatre lovers and cat enthusiasts alike, with charming illustrations by Jeremy Clayton.

I'm pretty sure the regulars here on HHW have seen me link these over the years, in whole or in sections (although any repeat clicks would be appreciated). Hoping some of the seemingly hundreds of "non-bot" Guests will give one or more of these a try.

Starting to look back on the first quarter century on our YouTube parody timeline,

Full disclosure:  I'm gearing up for promoting my upcoming parody lyric book (6th in my 21st Century Oldies series)

21st Century Oldies, The First Quarter Century: What a One-Percent World!
21st century events sung to the oldies

Please share the links if you know anyone who might be interested.

These were some "long form" (7 to 10 minutes) parody snapshot mini-musicals we did on what we (these from our theater-oriented viewpoint) saw as major socially resonant events 2001-2025:  the first time even Sondheim went premium (in 2009-2010), Broadway closing and the 2020 Quarantine, the 2008 economic crisis.

A LITTLE SITE MUSIC, or EVERY DAY A LITTLE NET - 10-minute mini-movie, the first time Sondheim on Broadway went premium, as the ladies of A Little Night Music (Charlotte, Anne, Madame Armfeldt, Desiree, Petra and Fredrika) dealt with premium tickets to the starry 2009 revival of their show -

WHEN I'M STUCK AT HOME, the 2020 Quarantine Through the Eyes of a Performer - 7-minute mini-movie, as a performer deals with theater closings by making masks (Make 'Em Masks) and then imagining socially distant roles in parodies of Rose in Gypsy (Together Wherever We Go), Joanne in Company (The Little Things You Do Together), Bianca/Lois Lane in Kiss Me Kate (Always True to You In My Fashion) and staying at "Home" with Dorothy (and Emily's cat as Toto) -
Feat. MJ (Emily) McAleesejergins

THE LEHMAN EULOGY, AN AIG BAILOUT PARODY MEDLEY (2008 economic crisis) - 8-minute parody-jukebox musical, through parodies of Top Ten classics from the Helen Reddy songbook, Delta Dawn, I Am Woman, Angie Baby, You and Me Against the World, Ain't No Way to Treat a Lady -
Vocals: Georga Osborne & Shauna Hicks

From John:

Quote
It was the first novel ever written. It’s more than 1,000 years old. The woman who wrote it had no form to follow. What she created is a marvel. And occasionally frustrating. And brilliant. And exhausting.

It sounds very interesting.  If my eyes were better I would tackle it.
