My DH and his two brothers were all born on holidays. DH the day after Christmas, the middle brother on July 4th, and the youngest on Labor Day.

I think Labor Day is a perfect day to give birth.

40 (yikes!) years ago when we were expecting Rob, I was more than a week past my due date when Labor Day rolled around on Sept. 2.  My actual LABOR day didn’t occur until the following Saturday, the 7th.

DR John, I have not read Isabel Allende’s Of Love and Shadows.  I'm not really a fan of her writing.

I really like her.

Many do.  I've read three of her books, probably all for book discussions, and just wasn't interested in reading any more on my own.

Yes. He was on a soap and in a Transformers movie.

I don't watch soaps.  I do watch Transormers movies.

It’s a horror story unfolding here. Don’t know how many people have died. 20 girls are missing. Friends have lost vineyards. The cleanup will be massive.

I am watching DESIREE on FXM with Marlon Brando and Jean Simmons - a coupling that works about as well as it did in GUYS & DOLLS.

Also on FXM - THE WAYWARD BUS starring Miss Jayne Mansfield is available.  I have not seen it in a long time, I may give it a go tonight or tomorrow.

It was my first time buying fireworks. I wasn't sure I had gotten the right selections. But at the checkout, the cashier high-four'd me.

I don't think that this has been mentioned yet, but:

Michael Madsen, actor of ‘Kill Bill’ and ‘Reservoir Dogs’ fame, dead at 67

While this is sad I must admit I don't really know who he is though I must have seen him in some of his films.

I mostly know him from Reservoir Dogs (TAO did a stage adaptation a little more than 10 years ago), and that his sister is actress Virginia Madsen.

My mother's phone and Internet are now restored. I wasn't able to accomplish it remotely, but after almost 2 hours on the phone with tech support, they were able to do it.

Years ago, maybe 65 or so, my brother Macbeth and I were throwing firecrackers at each other and one of them blew up in my hand. I was lucky because it could have blown off a foinger or two. Besides throwing a fit and giving us hell, my mother told us, "It's better to be a hot firecracker than to light one."

I went to overnight camps as a child and I find it hard to imagine camping out in the kind of rain those girls were in.  Of course in So. California I don't even remember it raining while I was a camp.  I'm sure it did but not enough for it to be memorable.

Reading more about it, I'm reading that cabins were washed away, so maybe they weren't camping out.

I have one friend who was born the day before Christmas and her name is Holly Eve.  And another friend who was born on Christmas day and his name is Noel (like noël)!

I know a couple of woman named Valerie who were born on Valentine's Day.
