Been ketchuping on various things this morning, and now I've got to listen to a couple of songs and sit down at the keyboard and play them in preparation for a voice lesson tomorrow. This is material for the student recital/concert coming up in a couple of weeks.

Tonight, finally, is "my director's" and my monthly dinner meeting, and by the way, I changed my mind about not doing anything during November and December so I will once again be MDing and playing his Wreck the Halls holiday spoof extravaganza that runs from Thanksgiving weekend to almost Christmas. It'll be good to be back at that.

What I remember from my junior high and high school years are tubes of Prell and jars (I think it was jars?) of Head & Shoulders. We might even have had Alberto VO-5 and others around, too, but I believe the above two are what I was using during those years.

For whatever reason people get dandruff, I think I had it enough that they gave me the Head & Shoulders to use. Later, on my own, I went to other regular shampoos, probably whatever was cheap. I discovered years later that my dad was still using H&S all the time in his old age, which I doubt anyone is really supposed to do, but I also suspect no one in our family knew how to properly care for their hair.

Dandruff was very common in the 50s and 60s, then kind of disappeared and we rarely hear about it now. I had it occasionally in my high school years, but haven't had it since - I think we all take care of our hair more from the 70s on.

It was in the 70s, in fact, when I started going to decent haircutters who recommended better products.

Yes, BK solved a good puzzler for me yesterday. I'd been scanning some color slides I'd taken in L.A. in the late 1970s, and I had two that showed some outdoor performance or presentation that was set up to take place in Century City, between the Plitt and Shubert theaters. I didn't remember these two photos at all, even though they're obviously mine. But I also knew I hadn't watched whatever the event was, so I thought BK might have a clue. We had a date to go on, and he found the announcement solving the puzzle in the LA Times.

The whole discovery is a bit of serendipity:  Stephen Schwartz's The Magic Show was on stage at the Shubert (sadly, I never saw it) and there just happened to be a Friday the 13th coming up, so they put a stage setting and two pianos out there in the plaza and were about to hold an amateur magician's contest that Friday at noon, and have a few songs performed by the cast of the show. I have no idea what I was doing there on a Friday during the day, but I walked by and took those pictures, and I'll just bet there are very few others in existence. BK was busy with The First Nudie Musical at the time (this was in June 1975) so he didn't see it either. So once again, newspapers.com saves the day.

Here's the better picture of the two. The other one thankfully gave us a hint of what was playing at the movie theeder then, so we had a date to go on.

While on my walk this morning, I chatted with a woman who talked about the downpour of rain at her house yesterday morning. She lives about three miles from me. We had not a drop.

Just learned that one of the people at the cookout on Saturday has been diagnosed with strep throat. I am crossing my fingers and everything else.

I've only had it once and it was extremely painful.  I can't imagine going to a cookout hurting like that.

Dark Shadows was taped. Their "time" with the ABC Tape Bank was 3:15 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The show was broadcast at 3:30 p.m. so no one got to see themselves if they were in the episode being recorded. No retakes unless disaster struck....

DR JOHN G - Miss Donna played two characters on Dark Shadows. The second was Amanda who was the love of Quinton Collins' life.

As they were fleeing for their lives in a 1795 parallel time episode - they had to cross a footbridge. The bridge collapsed and Amanda was killed.

Donna said when they rehearsed it, they cut the camera and she jumped a short way into what was supposed to be the gully. then they threw a handful of dirt on her.

Camera time - she jumped and they dumped a whole bag of fuller's earth on top of her.

Topic of the Day:  growing up, I just used whatever shampoo my parents bought, but when I started getting dandruff, I started using Head & Shoulders, and have been using that ever since.
