BK, that was a very nice tribute to your brother in your notes.  And the picture with Elizabeth Sherman was wonderful.

Terrible night of sleep, but I did have - and remembered! - two dreams. In the first, I was in college, and every time I walked out the door of 202 West 82nd Street, I would see Patricia Routledge/Hyacinth Bucket walking past the building carrying a large slice of chocolate cake on a saucer. In the second dream, I wascomposing music for a ballet based on King Lear.

Two interesting things happene yesterday afternoon, both possible sources of income. I got an email from the Packard Humanities Institute about (finally!) releasing the John McGlinn recordings from London, 2001. Then, I got a call from Phil Chan, one of my collaborators on the ballet Star on the Rise, about a fee to use sections of the ballet score in a documentary on ther making of the ballet.

Last night I girded my loins and read the chapter on The New Yorkers in that Cole Porter book. In discussing the plot, he says that it's about a New York socialite (Hope Williams) who marries a gangster (Jimmy Durante). Charles King played the bootlegger Al Spanish, and Durante played Jimmy Deegan, the nightclub comedian.

You could play a drinking game taking a sip of coffee every time the name of high-powered, high-priced attorney David Oscar Markus, attorney for Ghislaine Maxwell, is on the news these days.

And he was also just as high-profile in 2020 as today - and the involvement of such a high-powered attorney anywhere in - wait for it! - the Landau family's finances or estate matters against - again, wait for it! - me, makes no sense!

A puzzlement:  What is the "money" or "pull" that got as high-powered, high-profile an attorney as David Markus anywhere near my family's finances, actively looking our for the interests of these inheritance theft scammers - my brother Hilary (Macbeth) Landau. and his wife Joann (Lady Macbeth) Landau, against me.

But David Markus' name is all over the attorney invoice.

I had hired a Florida attorney named Paul Berman, paid him over $15,000 as MY lawyer - but there David Markus is, on the Paul Berman invoice, working against my interests.

Who got as high-powered an attorney as David Markus doing this?  This high-powered lawyer represents the interests of  people like Hillary Clinton and Ghislaine Maxwell -  and also somehow my brother Hilary Landau and his wife Joann Landau!

Today I must decide whether I'm going to see a local production of Camelot tonight, or perhaps tomorrow night instead.

TOD

Well, I did it. After our talking about it yesterday, I just had to take out Z Channel: A Magnificent Obsession and begin watching it again for my first time in a dozen years. It's two hours long and there were a couple of things I had to do as well, so I watched the first 30 minutes, then a little later the second 30 minutes, and I will finish up today. Taking a documentary like this in these chunks turns out to be perfect, but even more importantly, I'm loving it. Even more than the first time. Thus far, the interviews and reminiscences are excellent. I can also look forward to a commentary I never listened to before, and there's a second disc containing I don't know what.

Anyhoo, I believe it's DR Jrand74 who gets the thanks for starting the conversation, and DR Rodzinski as well. This is a wonderful trip into a unique moment of an L.A.-and-movie-centric past.
