My first adult book I can recall reading is Exodus by Leon Uris.  It seems all of my friends were reading it.  I was in 6th grade and about to go to Jr. High.  The biggest impact of the book for me was that it was the reason I walked up to the librarian in Jr. High and asked her to suggest books for me to read.  And my passion for reading began with the help of the wonderful librarian.

Agatha Christie: Murder in Three Acts

Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm unsure of what BK means by adult novel. A novel written for adults to read, or smut?     

You mean, something like this??

There’s a difference between adult novels and novels for adults, IMO. I don’t think Agatha Christie and Erle Stanley Gardner wrote for kids, and I devoured their books in the fifth grade. Seventh grade was when I read such books as The Godfather, The Exorcist and a few others that a neighbor loaned me. Eighth grade brought Six Days of the Condor with some graphic sex scenes. That book was available through the Scholastic Book Club.

Topic of the Day:  I remember getting the first Star Wars novel, Splinter of the Mind's Eye by Alan Dean Foster when I was in sixth grade.  I also read The Sword of Shannara early in high school.

Back from a nice breakfast with R. Yacko and then a visit to a new bookstore - new to the Valley anyway - it's called The Last Bookstore and their main branch for many years is downtown. This one's in Studio City and very nice.
