I slept okay until around 3:15. Then I had a bathro while Thatch ran off to either the litter box or his favorite kibble. As soon as we were both in bed and I turned out the light, there was this huge crash, which I suspect was caused by Annabelle on her way down from her mountain chalet to my bed. It's probably a stack of books she's knocked onto the floor, and I will check out the situation later this morning, after coffee.

GRANTCHESTER spoiler question

singdaw or anyone who's watching GRANTCHESTER - Do you think it's 100% clear at the end of last season that the person the Vicar sees, who opens the door (and whom the camera doesn't show for some reason), is his mother?

I guess the Vicar in GRANTCHESTER can no longer be called a randy Vicar, since he seemed anxious to settle down this past season.

DR singdaw, I loved the first Marlow Murder Club, I've always loved Samantha Bond, who used to play villains, seductresses, and women of the world in a lot of BBC productions. I think her first non-seductress role I ever saw her in was Downton Abbey. I know they've filmed a second one. Is it now showing? The author has now written several books in the Murder Club series.

There are four Marlow mysteries now. The other three are these:

BK, is it possible that the fact that you're more likely (at least for a while, while the gift card can be used) to go have a really good meal these days means that what they've given you for doing the proofing is actually having a positive effect on your day to day life - just while you can use it, with the new pill schedule.

Last night I dreamed that I went to the movies with my now-dead friend Pam Hollenbeck, her husband Paul, and two friends of theirs, who brought their baby. The movie was a new version of the Ken Russell film The Devils, which was based on a play adaptation by John Whiting from the Aldous Huxley history The Devils of Loudon.

So, we had to find five seats together in a crowded movie; then Paul spilled a whole bag of provisions he had brought, including grape soda, which caused a mess so he left. The movie was violent and unsettliong and Pam and I were appalled at the number of idiots who had brought young children.

Yes, DR Freddie, it was my impression that the person at the door was the Vicar's mother. But I guess we'll have to wait to find out.

Maybe they just haven't cast the Vicar's mother yet.

Enjoyed The Shootist last night. Everyone in it is great, but I absolutely love the characters of Beckum the undertaker (played by John Carradine) and Sweeney (played by Richard Boone). They don't make characters, and character actors, like that any more.

DR elmore3003 - thanks for the information. Yes, there is a second season of The Marlow Murder Club now on PBS.

I knew it had been filmed, but I had no idea it was already in broadcast. This is exciting!

Ask BK:

First, I positively identified the westernmost storefront between the Hollywood and the old bank as being the Coffee Dan's that I knew. In the Ed Ruscha book there are 3 stores or businesses, and the 4th has the name Daniel's, which it must have transitioned to in late '72 or early '73.

New question!  There are a thousand pictures showing the Du-Pars on Vine St. near Capitol Records. But when I arrived in L.A. that was a restaurant called Munch Box, as evidenced by both the Ruscha book and a scribbled note I have from that year indicating "lunch at Munch Box" - a couple of days in a row - so I must have liked it. I have absolutely NO memory of that, either the name or the place, but I obviously was there. Do you remember it? Does anyone?

DR Jrand75 - if your sugar is too high, just move it to a lower shelf. Problem solved.

You know what "they" say -
If you can get to page 3 before 11 a.m. (Eastern), why not go for it?
