Well, you've read the notes, the notes munched on Munch, and now it is time for you to post until the munching cows come home.

TOD:

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
The Godfather, Part II

If Silence of the Lambs qualifies as a sequel, then Silence of the Lambs

I'm sure there are others, but I can't think of them right now.

My body is a bunch of pains this morning: shoulder, back, and upper thighs are all out of whack. I suspect the back and aches come from lying in a poor position last night, but if I were a horse, I'd soon be a can of Alpo,

DR George, that photo of the coast makes me want to play in the surf and bask in the sun. It's really stunning.

Last night, I received the most wonderful email from Jack Viertel:
I’ve just made my way through your absolutely charming book, which reads like a fictional memoir of three creatures, of whom you are one. It’s adorable and engaging and I hope many readers find it, and find it so. And I have to say that I, who am not by nature a cat person, admire your cats much more than Andrew Lloyd Webber’s. Even if Annabelle and Thatch like Cats, they didn’t convince me. But over all, the book was just what you meant it to be, and that’s a very uplifting, whimsical tale of life in the big city, minus most of the city.

I'm still pondering my day. I need to call Joshie, but my principle focus is gathering and printing personal information for an application. My deadline is Sept. 30, but I want to make the submission ASAP so I know everything is in their hands.

This is a weird day. But they all are. With the housemates coming and going for various reasons lately, my sense of what day it is has been entirely screwed up. Now they're both at Howe Caverns in upstate NY for the next week or so (special job project Kristi is working), and every day feels like a Saturday to me.

You might remember several days ago I posted about a restaurant in June 1972 called Munch Box which had formerly been a Du-Par's. The web is full of postcards and photos showing the Du-Par's, but I'd never found anything on its Munch Box incarnation until I remembered to check Ed Ruscha's "Then and Now" book of Hollywood Blvd. photos. In his April 1973 photo strip, THERE IT IS. So I know it was Munch Box for at least a year.

But wait, there's more! BK had posted this incredible 1971 film strip taken around Hollywood & Highland which I've been poring over. And now there's another one of Hollywood & Vine. So in 1971, in between being a Du-Par's and Munch Box, the name of the jernt was Jim Collins' Restaurant, something I'd never heard of. A quick search on the name Jim Collins returns James A. Collins who was pretty big in the food biz - he was a franchisee of Kentucky Fried Chicken, and he bought the Sizzler chain! I haven't determined that was his place on Vine, but I'm betting it was.

Here follows the photographic evidence. First the pre-1970s Du-Par's:

After that, I know it was a Sun Palace, and I believe I can dig out a picture of my own showing that. Maybe later.

The cafeteria across the street was a BK favorite, and I was also in it in 1972. It was an Ontra, but I believe that name wasn't still on it when I knew it.
