Post Number 66 on Wednesday I did indeed write:

The book has arrived in Mooresville, Indiana!

I am on a publicity deadline so I will begin reading this evening.

I think I may watch the Gina Lollobrigida version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame.....well I guess it is actually the Anthony Quinn version.....it's subtitled so I stopped watching it when it was on late at night.

The doctor's office called yesterday. He is not worried about any of the numbers except the LOW platelet count.

So I will redo the labs on 11/28.

The hardcover RICHARD AND ME is retrieved from the package room, and it's noted on the package that the package mom got it on 8/27.

The special gift is really really nice, and the fish-related inscription quite delightful!

After coming back from the ocean, I wanted to fill my gas tank.  One place, a new convenient store owned by a local native tribe had regular unleaded at $3.85⁹/gallon.  Nice price for around here.  I drove to Costco, and they were at $3.99⁹!  Big difference, but I did, however, go ahead and get gas there.

As I drove home after filling up, I saw that Safeway gas was $4.09⁹, Fred Meyer was at $4.05⁹ (with a guaranteed 3¢/gallon off with their rewards card, so $4.02⁹).  And just kittycorner from Fred Meyer was Chevron at $4.49⁹/gallon!  Why would anyone go there when it's SO much more expensive?? :o

Understandable when there aren't other stations around, totally unfathomable when next to lower priced stations.

TOD

Last night I watched Truffaut's Day for Night for the first time, well, I actually think since the 1970s. I appreciated it more than I ever remembered from back then. I'd actually started a li'l Truffaut retrospective several months ago when I went through the Antoine Doinel films, but I fell off the wagon. I shall do better, starting now. I watched a few of the supplements on the Criterion Blu-ray, but it was getting really late. So I'll finish those up later today, then decide what the next film will be. If I take it out and put it on the to-watch stack, it won't get forgotten.

I have a few CDs in the to-listen-to stack, but what are they? I forget, but one is the Charlie Brown release that BK was just posting about finding.

Ooh, I need to watch more Truffaut films too. All I know from  Day for Night is the cat scene, which was hilarious! Based on that scene, I expect I'll enjoy that film more if I see more of the earlier Truffaut films first.

DR John G, my limited experience is that community productions of Sweeney Todd tend to self-select good singers. So it's probably worth going to support your local companies doing Sondheim.

I usually follow that logic when I'm doing a binge of a director's movies. I was thinking that when I watched 400 Blows, but the rest of the Doinel films interceded, and somewhere in there I watched Mississippi Mermaid and now Day for Night. So I've been all over the place with Truffaut, and I'll be stricter about it henceforth. Reset! Next up for me will be Shoot the Piano Player and I'll move forward from there.

We got our lab draws this morning and are awaiting our results. Remember when you got it done two weeks before your appointment so the doctor would have them when you got there?

Wow, that's some blurb the new book by the Viertels got from Emma Thompson.  Will she be involved with the movie version?

"I loved every bit of The Glass Eel: It’s part The Overstory, and then also a bit Mare of Eastwick, with a wondrous female lead. It is so absorbing to feel oneself there [on the Maine Coast] and surrounded by these very gritty people. I liked them so much. [The Viertels] write about [the natural world]―the tiny changes―the exquisite complexity and beauty of it all―all mashed over and tragically corrupted by man’s greed and ignorance. The battle between nature and human greed is beautifully and horribly well realized. The book is great. It’ll make a helluva film, too!"
