Peter Filichia's review of THE LAST STARFIGHTER gave us one of the best quotes we have: "The 1984 film may be a cult favorite, but the musical has potential to meet much more success."

Still thinking it's not delusional to keep holding out hope for the show.  There's a huge mega-budget video-gamer musical called OTHER WORLD https://otherworldmusical.com making its way through tryouts, and if that show succeeds big, it feels like theaters would be looking for a lower-budget show on the same framework and theme.  (Maybe like other versions of PHANTOM benefited from ALW's.)

From what I can tell, that show's lawyers had been angling to get the rights to the LAST STARFIGHTER movie, but of course they found out we'd had the stage rights to the screenplay fully merged since 2004.

I’m at Fort Clark near Brackettville.

Got it. When someone says desert, in Texas, I immediately think that incredible western area.

Listening to Considering Matthew Shepard. A modern-day passion. So beautiful and so heartbreaking.

It’s nice, Larry, that Peter is coming to visit you. I doubt he remembers me, but tell him hello. I had a wonderful lunch with him some years back.

We've been friends since the late 1980s, but he's never been to my apartment. I have a lot of tidying up today.

I don't know this work and there are several performances on YouTube. What group are you listening to?

Thanks! The CD is out of print and it's going for a fortune!

Happy last day of August!  With the highly anticipated revival of Chess coming to Broadway this Fall, I've assembled the score of this legendarily difficult musical from a variety of cast recordings on another Putting It Together episode of the Broadway Radio Show.  Making all these Chess pieces fit isn't an easy task!

All the A1C mentions got me checking through my lab tests in my online charts.  April 2019 it was 7.8, March 2021 it was 7.9, Nov. 2021 it had gotten way up to 8.6, April 2022 it was 7.6.   I probably should try to access my medical records which seem to be in different computer systems because different insurance had me with differenct primary care doctors) , but I'm pretty sure it was when my doctor switched me to glimepiride rather than Metformin that it pretty much stayed acceptable with medication.

The reference ranges get confusing.  The reference ranges say if you're diabetic, staying under 6.5 with medication is a GOOD sign - but my doctors say you're still diabetic for purposes of being on extra warning for Covid symptoms, besides my being over 60 of course.  On the other hand, the ranges say that if you're NOT diabetic, 5.7 to 6.4 is "consistent with prediabetes."

I see my primary care doctor next week, so maybe I should try to focus on this.

I hadn't seen this happening here until very recently, but where there used to be maybe 1 or 2 Guests in the current day's posts, these recent weeks there have frequently been 5, 6, 7 or 8 Guests at at time.

Maybe some of them will sign up and join HHW.  Wondering if BK's new book is drawing people here to the current days.

BK, is there some reason the Kritzerland mailing label has my name spelled Frederic rather than Frederick?

This different spelling isn't a problem for Kritzerland orders getting to me, but in other places like CVS for example, the system doesn't always recognize that the misspelled "Frederic Landau" and "Frederick Landau" are the same person.

This spelling thing started when I was doing medical stuff three years ago and the clerk there  accidentally left off the k in my name there.  I'd never had that happen before.

I turned the page a day early to September on the kitchen wall calendar.  September has that box open for Sunday, August 31 anyway.  :)

Feels like it gives a mindset that what we think of as the summer is over.

I'm trying to stick to getting a new music video out at least once a month, to stay a consistent "content creator" or "digital creator" - whatever it's best to call it.  The last one was August 1.

Some of the material in current events is so upsetting.  Glad Randy Rainbow and Andy Borowitz  are able to make this all funny.

It doesn't seem all that long ago when I was getting one out every week, which is a more normal consistent "content creator" or "digital creator"

Some of these folks are putting out new videos every single day.  One guy whose theater reviews I really enjoyed all last season pulled a pretty reasonable "bait-and-switch" of sorts when he started pushing his own original music.  It'll be interesting to see how that works out for him, whether the numbers he got for his reviews will carry over to his original music.
