Be ruthless in your unflinching praise - sounds like a line from something.

I hope it’s nearly as good as it smells.

Listening to the musical version of Benjamin Button. I’m finding it pretty dreadful in that not-quite-West End sounds of the 1980s meets Britain’s Got Talent. Think musical Return of the Native.

Exposition is left to narrators. Meh.

Does the narrating in Hamilton work for you, though, since the piece adopts it as a style?

The more I listen to it, the more I think the orchestration is striving for Once. But it all feels twice baked.

No.

Just because something works in one show doesn’t mean it will work for everyone.

Just attended a 100th birthday party for Pearl, a resident in our building. She is radiant, and a testament to a life well-lived.

That is wonderful.

Meet Pearl Mitchell-Jackson, a Minnesota community activist and changemaker who’s been making #herstory for nearly a century!

She began her barrier-breaking journey as the first girl of color to join the all-white Girl Scout troop at her elementary school in St. Paul. Pearl said of this experience, "Girl Scouts made me resilient, and it made me comfortable with myself." Pearl has been involved with Girl Scouts ever since, helping lead our Movement and exemplifying courage, confidence, and character through her commitment to inclusiveness and racial understanding.

A legendary activist, retired social worker, and community leader, Pearl was the first female president of the Council of International Programs and was an active Board member of the Minnesota Museum of Art, Minnesota International Center, Macalester College World Press Institute, and the Rainbow Club. In 2022, the History Theater play “Not for Sale” honored her work against redlining and racial covenants in South St. Paul in the 1960s.  Still active in the community in her 90s, Pearl continues to make history to this day ✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿

What a wonderful woman.  I'm glad you were able to celebrate with her.

Interesting.  I got the CD last week and plan to listen to it during my travels to and back from rehearsals.

TOD:
What Dreams May Come

Did that get bad reviews? I don't recall hearing about it when it came out, but was steered to it after Robin Williams' death by a rave from our local film critic, now my film professor.
