Perhaps I'll start to celebrate singdaw's birthday early by immersing myself in clever  YouTubes.

Happy 100th birthday weekend to Bob, who is John G's role model, as mentioned in last night's posts.

Be careful about emails that look like they're actually from the Social Security Administration -
An email I got overnight when I took the extra step of looking underneath the sender info was from an address "imoya@famtreerealty.com" - not the actual domain name of the Social Security Administration.

Maybe a quick benign rant can get us to page 2 before 6 a.m. (Eastern).  Trying to do this vixmom style.

I really am grateful to the Amazon system for facilitating independent publishing, like how they make the actual creation of the physical book so easy (once the author had the insides of the book ready and an idea of what text the author wants on the front and back covers),

and how easy and timely they create copies and get copies out, whether to the author or to third parties.

[Freddie]

Yet given how expertly they handle such difficult things, and that I do really strongly overall recommend their system,

there are some things (which seem like they should be comparatively easy) that don't make sense. 

[Freddie]

For example, try as I might, they listed the age range as ages 5 to 18, when it should be age 5 and up through adults, and nothing I try will change that.

And they won't let me get it into genre categories like "Music" or "Humor"

[Freddie]

but insist that it's Popular Culture in Social Sciences, which must be either the judgment of its internal algorithms deciding how to best position or describe the book or maybe a human being looked at it and decided that's the best way.

And also, the rounding of the star rating average to just one decimal place nags a bit - when it was for a while five 5-star ratings and one 4-star rating (total 6 reviews), it rounded the average to 4.8, but now that it's six 5-star ratibgs and one four-star rating (total 7 reviews), it's still at the same 4.8.

And there it stays, and the graphic showing percentages for ratings seems so slow to update.

But again, the difficult parts, production of the product - the book - they get so totally right and make it so easy to do

But the trappings of promotion which seems so easy to adjust, they seem to have decided not to put resources into those

It's possible, though, that they're "subtly" encouraging the writers to partake of their add-ons for book promotion. but I'm not sure there.  So far, there have been no amounts paid to Amazon except the cost of the books themselves, whether author copies or otherwise.

That doesn't get us to page 2 yet.

It would be nice for singdaw's birthday for singdaw to wake up to a turned page.
