To continue from last night about my Goofy watch:

The last time I needed to have the battery changed, the watch repair guy couldn't get the back back on! :o He said something about the gasket being the culprit, but looking at it now, it looks fine to my untrained eye.  I think I'll take it to Fred Meyer's jewelry department and see if they can get it back on now (and change the battery, if they can).

I just read the notes.  That's great about the woman from the library who might be able to help get your books in their system. :)

It took me forever to get to sleep, but once I did, I slept very well until 4:00. After my bathroom break, Annabelle became restless and couldn't decide if she wanted to cuddle or annoy me.

Friday afternoon, as I was cleaning up the cats' dinner dishes, my FaceTime began ringing with an incoming visit. Birthday greeting, I thought. I'll deal with it later.

About an hour later, I checked to see who had tried to reach me; it was a 917 (NY City area code) number I did not recognize, so I dialed it, and a voice said "This is Laura . . ."

Laura Who? I wondered.

So, yesterday morning, I called the number again. "This is Laura . . ." but no one picked up. I left a message "This is Larry Moore; you tried to reach me one last night, and I don't know who you are."

So, last night at 7:30. Laura returned my call. This is where it gets weird. The caller was Laura Parker, whom I last saw in 1979, in Middletown, Ohio, when she was around 10 years old. Her parents were friends of DR Ginny's and mine.  Her uncle was my NYC friend, operatic baritone William Parker, who died from AIDS around 1990. It was at Will's memorial; that I last saw Laura's father John. By that point, her parents had divorced, and her mother had remarried an old community theater friend of mine. They all - Laura, her family, her mother and stepfather -are now living in Santa Barbara, CA. She swore she did not try to call me, so we figure it was the cosmos telling us to reconnect.

On the bad side, her stepfather David is going blind and her mother's mental facilities are going, and since both are dear friends, this news distresses me.  I last saw David and Nancy back in 2017, when they drove from North Carolina to Middletown to attend a party that DR Ginny and Richazrd had during my visit to Middletown.

Well, I don't think I made it even halfway through The Long, Long Trailer last night. I was lying there watching contentedly, and the next thing I knew, I was waking up and staring at something unrecognizable. I didn't even remember the sleepiness coming on me like it normally would, I must have simply conked out at some point. I guess I needed it.

And now I have only a couple of hours before I must be leaving for the Bedford Playhouse. It's a noon showing.

I was reading up on Beau Geste yesterday because as familiar a tale as it is, I have never seen any of the filmed versions of it, or read any of the original books. I do know what's going on in the story, so it will be a thrill to be watching the original in its reconstructed/restored state.
