I am here following a more-than-one-hour-long call with Xfinity about my service going out at one in the morning. I had a second wind and was watching The Night of the Iguana on TCM, and halfway through ... zap. Nothing. TV, modem, everything, out like a light.

Miraculously, what the Xfinity person did this time

(wait for it)

FIXED THE PROBLEM.

So as awful as these calls can be to get through, this one actually worked. I thank the gods, and now it is time to move on.

Now and then that happens - and a couple of times I got a life story to go along with it.

I went to the getting place to get things this morning.

When I got home I realized it was more like the FORgetting place.

I may have to go back Friday morning.

My only connection with mohair was as a young kid. I don't remember if it was ours originally, or if it had belonged to one of my grandparents, but we had a mohair-covered armchair.

Let's just say that I can't even imagine wearing mohair. In fact, I didn't know sweaters or anything else had ever been made from it. But I am, after all, here for an education.

I'm thinking that chair might be visible and identifiable in some of our old pictures from the early 50s. Can't do it today, but I'll remember to look for that next time I'm taking a deep dive into that stuff.

I had a mohair V-neck sweater.

It was gold and made me feel like the cowardly lion.

I’ve got electric boots, a mohair suit.
You know I read it in a magazine.

Today I learned mohair comes from Angora goats, and not, as I’d been led to believe, mo.

Well, as Maureen McGovern once sang, there’s got to be a morning after the night of the iguana.

George would recall Manhattan Transfer singing:

He's really down
And he's no clown (yeah, yeah)
He has the finest penthouse
I've ever seen in town (yeah, yeah)
And he's cute in his mohair suit
And he keeps his pockets full of spending loot (yeah, yeah)

Talk about the Golden Age of television entertainment.

For me, the memories of those years - let's say 1959-1963, give or take - are especially... um, special.

I thought it was interesting that Kimmel opened his show with a phrase that was used by Jack Paar after he had been banned from The Tonight Show for a few days in the early 60's....

"As I was saying......"

You couldn't PAY me to wear a mohair sweater.

Oh, God! I saw that photo and realized I had a light green and white mohair sweater in college. The shame of it!

J am back from my adventure, my first trip out of the building since June 30. I was absolutely terrified. Navigating those five steps from lobby to sidewalk with a folded walker is truly frightening. Both trips today involved huge Access-a-Ride buses and lifts from the street into the bus, but both drivers were kind, patient, friendly, and completely reliable, so that made it much better.

Then I got to Mt Sinai Hospital at East 98th Street, which is as much of a traffic nightmare as Lenox Hill Hospital at East 77th Street. But I really liked Dr Winston and his nurse Dakota. All went well, and I am happy to be home. Thatch greeted me at the door, then Stella appeared. Annabelle is sleeping somewhere, and I should see her about four hours from now.

Great that all went smoothly at the hospital.
