Yesterday I watched, kind of at random, but it was part of my travels through some early Twilight Time releases, Journey to the Center of the Earth. I hadn't seen it since that second Blu-ray of theirs was released some ten years ago. After watching, I sampled bits of the isolated score track, which sounds fabulous.
That got me in the mood, so I pulled out BK's soundtrack release on Varese, loaded the PDF of Bernard Herrmann's score into the iPad, turned it up on the Big Speakers, and listened to it all the way through while following along. I'd downloaded a number of those scores back when there were a couple of sites where they could be easily found (at the moment I don't know of ANY such sites that are still functioning), but aside from checking out a few favorite things, I'd never sat down and carefully listened to one while reading it. I'd sort of done it a couple of times while playing a movie, but you've really got to hear JUST the score, whether an isolated track on a DVD or Blu-ray or on a separate recording, to appreciate it like this.
