Yesterday I watched, kind of at random, but it was part of my travels through some early Twilight Time releases, Journey to the Center of the Earth. I hadn't seen it since that second Blu-ray of theirs was released some ten years ago. After watching, I sampled bits of the isolated score track, which sounds fabulous.

That got me in the mood, so I pulled out BK's soundtrack release on Varese, loaded the PDF of Bernard Herrmann's score into the iPad, turned it up on the Big Speakers, and listened to it all the way through while following along. I'd downloaded a number of those scores back when there were a couple of sites where they could be easily found (at the moment I don't know of ANY such sites that are still functioning), but aside from checking out a few favorite things, I'd never sat down and carefully listened to one while reading it. I'd sort of done it a couple of times while playing a movie, but you've really got to hear JUST the score, whether an isolated track on a DVD or Blu-ray or on a separate recording, to appreciate it like this.

Which brings me to a Sunday ASK BK:

Would the tracks of that Varese CD be the same recordings as the "isolated" tracks on the Blu-ray? It would be quite the exercise trying to compare the two, so I'm just wondering what you remember about all of this. My guess is they'd have to be the same. They certainly wouldn't have recorded the score more than once, right?

The BD includes the voice of a producer or engineer before and after each cue. Did CD producers have the same tracks at their disposal, trimming that stuff as necessary?

In a little while I have to run out to the supermarket for just a couple of things. I'm sure the coming storm's Panic Shopping has been going on yesterday and today, but I don't need the usual things (bread, milk, etc.) that people run out for. I'll still have to endure the crowds, though.

The storm isn't supposed to be too bad where we are. It's going to impact the coast much more. But it's going to be a good 24-hour one, which is just wearying. I'll be very glad when it's passed.

Yesterday's viewing:

On HBO MAX....a 5 part series ON THE SET.....about the troubles on the sets of several Nickelodeon shows....all parts interesting except the last.

On TUBI a documentary about Robert Opel - the man who streaked the Oscar ceremony in 1974 by his nephew Robert Oppel. Very strange.

And then on HBO a 2011 movie titled SHAME from director Sir Steve McQueen. It's about a man who is a sex addict - Michael Fassbinder and his sister and his sister Carey Mulligan. She is a singer in a piano bar and sings New York, New York using a very interesting piano arrangement.

DR Jrand75 reminds me:

In my continuing award-winning series of Things I've Been Falling Asleep To On TCM, last night's pleasures were the second half of Sweet Smell of Success and the first half of New York Confidential.

There is a later scene in which Fassbinder takes a female co-worker out to dinner and the actor playing the waiter does such an on point performance that I am still thinking about it. His backstory that he created for himself must have been worked on for days.

Any of the scene with the waiter cuts most of him out.....too bad.

It's a wonderful Sunday... On the new Broadway Radio Show, I chat with delightful vocalist Juliet Ewing about her love of great show tunes and standards, which are beautifully performed on her new album Simply S'Wonderful: The Magic of Gershwin. It's a fun conversation with lots of great music!

“Pudge” is also the cat mascot of one of my alma maters, Bowling Green, who has been taking the sports world by storm.

I am back from the supermarket, which was busy but not bad at all, except ...

Since I was picking up exactly one (1) item, I went to the self-checkout thingie to pay for it using cash. It took the dollar bills but rejected the coins. The machine froze there and signaled the Help Person to come over. Help Person was juggling three of us, so that took a couple of minutes, then the machine would not cooperate when he was trying to free it up. He had to pound on it, open it up to do something, and pound on it some more. Finally, he got it reset and was able to feed my coins in and complete the purchase.

I had chosen the self-thingie (which I don't often do - I don't like doing things that eventually put people out of work) in the first place BECAUSE it was one item and I only wanted to get in and out. So with that machine hiccuping like it did, what do you suppose I, and the store, saved in time, efficiency, and money?  Eh?  Eh???

DR Rodzinski, keeping the children home from school for Thanksgiving is a good idea, soon they won't be able to skip school as easily.

⬜🟨🟨🟨⬜
⬜🟩🟩🟩🟩
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

WHEW!!  There were six, count 'em, SIX more words that I was thinking of for my fourth guess (I actually made a list)...and I can't believe I even guessed it correctly in time!

Excellent!

Today is Leonard's Gotcha Day. He was a hungry kitten crying on the patio. We found him after we got home from the hospital when my grandson was born.

Happy Gotcha Day to Leonard!

He ate dry food before I was able to catch him with a feather wand and set him in my lap. After I brought him in the house, he ate two cans of wet food.
