Topic of the Day:  just egg salad.  I like it on its own, or on a sandwich, or in its sometime-original form:  the deviled egg. :)

TOD: Tuna salad, in sandwiches, is my favorite. Chicken salad is OK. I can't recall having turkey salad but I expect it would be fine. Egg salad's the one I'm not too fond of, it's so rich.

I love the unmentioned shrimp salad. Shrimp, tuna, chicken, egg salads on toast, stuffed inside a tomato, or on a bed  of lettuce; all sound wonderful.

If I remember correctly, I have had turkey salad only once, over 65 years ago on my Aunt Lois' farm near Columbus, Ohio. I rememberm too, that I liked it.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney has died. I never liked him, but I have great admiration for his daughter.

Tonight I am hosting a group at the church. They included in their email that the church is accepting donations to go toward grocery store gift cards for folks who have lost EBT benefits.

Hopefully they are generous, as they eat the goodies I'm making today.

Tonight is the night (not to be confused with Tonight's the Night) that I, too, am back at rehearsal.

This week it's tonight (not to be confused with "Tonight") for working one duet (this year's new song), and tomorrow night for the full cast run-through.

Eight years ago today I attended a cat-kitten adoption event at the 92nd Street & Broadway Petco.  I was looking for a little brother for Annabelle.  I had two requirements: he had to be younger than she and he had to have some white in his coat. I checked out all the cats in the back of the store and then walked to the front of the store where they were setting up more cages of cats and there he was: Thatch!

He was three months old, orange and white, a little creamsicle of a kitten, and I was smitten.  Cupid's arrow never pierced a heart with more alacrity.  Five days later I brought him home.  Happy Anniversary, Thatch!

Last night I once again resumed my journey through the Twilight Time Blu-rays, with The Rains of Ranchipur (1955).

I could have sworn that I'd watched this one as soon as it was released in 2012. Well, not so. I knew I would have forgotten lots of it, but I kept waiting for familiar scenes to show up ... and they never did! By the time I was a third of the way through it I accepted that I'd completely conflated it somehow with some other movie, and here I was seeing it for my first time.

I enjoyed it, but I made myself get all the way through it before looking up anything about it. And oh my, what a reputation it has! Richard Burton in a turban and Indian skin coloring (which somehow fades later in the story)? That, and more. There's something for everyone of today and even yesterday to hate. I was nevertheless into it, but now I want to see the 1939 movie it's based on, and get THAT flavor of the story and the goings-on.

What I especially appreciated was that 1950s Fox "house style" of cinematography. I think it's a lusciously filmed picture, much of it drop-dead beautiful.

I know Thatch was a bit of a challenge at first. Like Joshie was for me. But They both turned out to be wonderful.
