BRIGHT-EYED AND BUSHY-TAILED

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were both bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, and now it is time for you to post until the bright-eyed and bushy-tailed cows come home.

I was up at 5:30 to be ready for an Amazon Fresh delivery between 6:00 and 8:00am. Today's delivery arrived at 6:15!

Oy! They have never been this early.

It took about 30 minutes to go through the bags and find the ones going into the refrigerator or freezer, and I put those items away. Everything else sits on the floor awaiting my attention. Annabelle, Thatch, and Stella romped as I roamed through the bags.

What I hate about the Joy Machine release: no information beyond the song titles; the booklet assembled in 2024 for a possible release included photos of my grandmother's Appalachian farm and family, notes on who sings what and who wrote what. Our producer made this decision to go with Joy Machine but if I knew anything beyond "they're a new company," or4 that there was no CD release, I would have fought against going with them.

Much as I am quite proud of my work on the show Moonshine & Mistletoe, the recording has een a pain my my butt since Day One of the recording in April 2017. I had urged our producer then to hire BK to produce and release the recording, but he went with the lady who produces those annual Broadway shows sing carols recordings. Nice lady, but . . .

The sessions were not pleasant. Our egineer thought we were doing a bona fide bluegrass alpbum, and badmouthed loudly every one of my arrangements; the producer never told him to STFU. I hated every moment I was there. I wanted to say to him, if you pulled this on a Sondheim show, your little arrogant ass would be out of here so fast.

The producer sat on the recording for years, giving other matters a priority, and then we were suddenlt on for a 2024 release that curiously never happened, and now it's out, and I can finally comment on what hell it's been for the past 8.5 years between recording and release. I am proud of the band, the cast, and my work. I think it's a good show, and I hope it leads to performances.

BK, I agree with you about a Sondheim moratorium on Sweeney Todd, Sunday in thew Park, and Into the Woods.

TOD
My mother's two most often quotes were these:
  1. It's as easy to fall in love with a rich man as well as a poor one.
        She never followed this advice; we grew up dirt poor.
  2. You'll go to hell for lying, same as you will for stealing.
        Donald Trump will never get to heaven!

Still, congratulations on such good things happening in 2024 and 2025:
in 2024, the ballet (with your being interviewed in the Times Arts & Leisure section - wow to that!) and then the credit in the Broadway GYPSY Playbill;
and in 2025, the book being released, and the CD being released.
