I look forward to DR GINNY's repor on MERRILY.

We have returned from the movie and dinner at Freddie’s (burgers and frozen custard).  I enjoyed MERRILY very much, especially hearing several familiar songs in context.  My only complaint was not enough wide shots.  I would like to have seen the staging in certain spots.

That seems to be the way of many theatrical movies...too many close-ups.

She sounds uncannily like Karen Carpenter!

On her non-Carpenters songs, she sounds a little bit more individualized.

George, you would love Canada, where anything less than well-done burgers are generally illegal.

Who knows if I'll live long enough to see Linklater's movie version of Merrily. I wish they'd have given that to Greta Gerwig, who incorporated it to great effect in Lady Bird.

Gold Diggers of 1933 was great! This was my first time seeing it. In the class this served as an example of a complex finish, and the "Forgotten Man" number surely was that. We also watched closing scenes from Michael Clayton, Le Petit Lieutenant, The Godfather, and Zorba the Greek.

But Ginny was right:  not enough wide shots.

Back from a somewhat productive rehearsal. First hour and fifteen - drilling numbers. Second hour and fifteen, we somehow managed to stumble through all of act one, with lots of stopping and starting - when the pace is right and we play it straight through, I'm thinking act one won't be longer than forty-five minutes.

I had a can of chili con carne without beans, but I also added some leftover sliced kielbasa (to get rid of it), some shredded cheese, some cream cheese (I don't have sour cream ::) ), and a drizzle of some enchilada sauce...just because I had it.  Actually, it was all quite tasty.
