Still, Lindsay Mendez should be nominated for every supporting actress award there is. She’s a marvel. When her tears start falling at the end of Like It Was, perhaps my favorite Sondheim song, the waterworks began.

Yes, this film uses a lot of closeups, as you may have read. It works particularly well when Daniel Radcliffe sings Franklin Shepard Inc. and Good Thing Going. He’s also incredible.

I was a little more mixed about the closeups on Jonathan Groff, who comes off as more shallow than you’d like. But shallow is pursuing money over art. So perhaps it’s an apt performance. Still, when he starts Our Time, the waterworks really opened.
