I slept well. The temperatures have gone up so I need to turn down the radiator; it's way too warm.

I saw Benay Venuta as Mrs Mullins in the 1966 Lincoln Center production of Carousel with John Raitt, Jerry Orbach, Susan Watson, and Edward Everett Horton. I was thinking she had the same role in the 1956 film, but that was Audrey Christie, another Rodgers & Hart alumna.

It looks like Fackam Hall is now available to buy or rent on Amazon Prime, relatively inexpensively.

DR Elmore, in my morning fog I kept reading that as Benita Valente. Remember her? I looked her up and I see that she just died in October, which I didn't remember hearing about. Or maybe I'm losing it, what with us losing so many people these days, which is certainly possible.

According to my copy of the program book, I, too, saw her in that touring production, in Miami. I don't really remember anyone from that except John Raitt, whose signature I got on (I think) my old Carousel vocal score that I schlepped with me to the show. BUT -- I also have somebody else's program with every single bio autographed - and a few others in a few of the photos. It's a wonderful artifact. (I'm thinking I got it from one of BK's kickstarters?)

Today is a Monday that, well, kind of actually feels like a Monday.

I say that because the weekend was absolutely bizarre, with yesterday (Sunday) feeling like a Saturday all day and into the night. It's like the two days melded into one and I still needed a separate Sunday. Just bizarre.

I don't remember if I ever saw Benita Valente at the Met, but I'm thinking she sang Pamina in our Magic Flute in Cleveland in 1972 and that's what I always knew her from thereafter. I need to dig out those programs.

Just heard on CNN regarding NewYear's resolutions:

"Always set the bar low.  It's easier to reach."

I'm not sure whether CNN endorses that concept, but it was actually just heard on CNN.

High or low, does CNN have a bar?

:)

Their show "NewsNight" does their Friday night show at 10 (Eastern) every week from a restaurant in the building the CNN studio is in.   The restaurant must have a bar. :)

I saw her sing Händel's Messiah at Tanglewood with Sir Colin Davis conducting. I have her wonderful Christmas album.
