Yesterday afternoon’s forecast was in the low 20s. It got into the teens. I hope my olive tree is okay.

Yesterday I watched SINNERS and WEAPONS.

I liked them both. I'm not sure I am stepping out of the OBAA camp - but it gives me pause.

I’m enjoying Katrina Lenk in this lovely song from High Spirits.

I’m two-thirds of the way through The Magnificent Ambersons, and I really dislike it. I don’t have to like all or any of the characters in a book, but the main character is such a horror, whiny and ignorant, with misplaced priorities and reactionary ideas, that I am not drawing a lot from reading it. I can’t understand the appeal to Orson Welles or anyone else. Maybe I don’t know the context of when it appeared.

To me, it’s not tragedy. It may be black comedy, except without humor.

The almost-official sn*wf*ll numbers are in, at least as of last night. Our town (hmm...catchy...someone should do something with that) got fifteen or sixteen inches, and that seems to be about the median for the state. Places farther north or in the hills got a couple more. But there are also crazy drifts that look like they're twice that. In about an hour I'll be bundled up and starting out there to see what's what in the driveway, and hopefully the snow blower will be able to get through it. The plow people sure have their work cut out for them. This is going to be an all-day cleanup. Pray for that baby.

I hope your snow blower worked well.

HA! I think by my guesstimate we got between 10-12 inches of the white stuff. The stuff went over the tops of my sidewalk lights....and then of course drifts.

I went out the this morning - shoveled the front porch and the sidewalk to the driveway. But that was all I could do. The stuff is so deep each shovelful is very weighty.

I hope you bundled up well and kept your face covered.

My main go-to comfort food is pasta.  I try to keep a frozen pasta meal or two in the freezer - usually, it's lasagna, because the microwave instructions on lasagna normally don't require peeling back the plastic halfway through or anything like that.

The depth of snow we got is beyond what my snow blower can get through; that is, without taking multiple passes a couple of feet at a time. You could never get through this entire driveway that way. Our plow guy just texted me to say he'll be here eventually, the work around town that he does has been so heavy that he actually had to give his jeep a rest.

And now they're calling for a nor'easter next weekend. Another heavy snow.

Yesterday afternoon, I had chest pains so intense and severe that I first thought I was having a heart attack. I had to stop writing, get out of my work area, and decide if I needed to call 911. I decided it was a muscle spasm or cramp, like the one that laid me low for several days about a month ago.

Oh, no!  Hopefully, you feel better quickly, Larry!!

It’s still very cold here. So cold it prompted this line in a Facebook video:

It’s so cold my plumber pulled up his pants.

TOD

A number of various comfort foods are favorites, it depends on the situation.

Today, however, we're having DR Elmore's:  grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. Not Campbell's this time, though, we have a few cans of Progresso's Tomato & Basil, which is really good, so that will be today's pleasure.

DR MICHAELG scanning your programs is a great idea.

If you are planning on getting rid of the physical ones, you might ask at your local library sometimes an historical society is interested in preserving them.

The Putnam County Historical Society is now in possession of a many decade collection of programs, brochures, and newspaper articles that had been in a couple of file cabinets at my house for years.

That's a good idea. But I'm not getting rid of all of the physical ones, at least not yet. I'm keeping the pages with the program and the performers, and ditching all the pages with program notes, ads, staff, etc. That saves a huge amount of space when filing them away. The rest goes in the recycle bin.

While doing the cleanup I found years of old alumni magazines. I read through the alumni notes section before recycling them, and was sad to learn of deaths of some folks I knew. One was my stage girlfriend in The Gondoliers (Giulia to my Francesco), two classes behind me. Another was the star trumpet soloist in our college jazz band, in the same class.
