Besides the soundtrack's instrumental take on "Our Language of Love," IRMA LA DOUCE's signature song is at its best when sung by Ann-Margret.

BK knows what I'm talking about.

I have just had three hours of total joy.  The Lincoln Center production of SOUTH PACIFIC is nearly flawless.  Kellie and Paolo are the perfect Nellie and Emile.  Personally I could never understand Nellie falling in love with Ezio Pinza or Rossano Brazzi, but Paulo Szot is a knockout!

And now, George has even offered me a DVD of the telecast!

I shall now be on my way to sup and then I shall return to finish a motion picture on the DVR, Mad Men, and readying our announcement.

Golden Gate Park is nice, especially the Japanese Gardens. And my favorite spot in SF is around the old Cliff House, Seal Rock, Sutro Baths ruins. Not something that I would recommend to everyone...it just appeals to me. The scope of imagination people had back then. "Hey, this is kind of far out here...maybe I should build a railroad to get there" etc.

Back porch is done except for a few details. I think I will paint the stair risers tomorrow. It makes me happy to have a productive day like this; they're so rare!

Also, the Exploratorium, not for the museum, but just for the grounds and the Palace of Fine Arts, which was built for the Pan Pacific Exposition in 1915 as a ruin, and not meant to be preserved, but thankfully, it was. Again, the scale and imagination of that exhibition fascinate me, the same way Coney Island in its prime, would have.

Today I plan what to do on my trip to San Francisco.
I have never been there before. So I will do a lot of the touristy things: Chinatown, Lombard Street, Alcatraz, Haight-Asbury, The Castro Area. I hope I don't run out of time.

Of course I would like to do some things that are not usually found in AAA or Frommers or Eye Witness travel guides

Drive or walk over the Golden Gate Bridge, visit Fort Point & the Presidio  http://www.nps.gov/fopo/

Years ago we went to a small old west prison in Wyoming and that was enough to give me nightmares.  I have so far avoided Alcatraz & have every intention to continue doing so.

Chinatown isn't what it used to be or I didn't realize how tacky it was when I was younger.  I don't suggest eating there unless you have a good recommendation.  Avoid the overpriced touristy places.

Have fun.

Golden Gate is on the agenda.

Perhaps do the Flower Drum Song Tour. Chinatown, Grant Avenue etc

The Presidio also sounds interesting. Not familiar with Fort Point, but will look into it

We are booked for Alcatraz on Tuesday

Was just at Alcatraz on Friday, and it's a great trip.  You'll enjoy the audio tour.  Enjoy the wharf and the pier.  Shopping in Union Square is always good.  All of your sites are great.  Let me know if you need any help or anything.  I am a local :)

I had in my possession a coupon entitling me to 10 hours of parking for $10 and another for 40% off Next to Normal tickets - so the Vixter and I jumped in the car and drove in yesterday afternonn - we walkwd up to the box office and snagged 2 4th row orchestra seats for the Saturday night performance - they were side - but on the aisle

we were sorry to have missed BK's pal Alice Ripley but Marin Mazzie was excellent

And the gentleman who played Joe Cable, Andrew Samonsky, gave a very unusual performance.  I thought he was much better in the second act.  In the first act there was something strange about his performance; but I can't quite put my finger on what it was.

Bruce - I was very sorry to read about your friend Debby - of course I send VIBES for HEALING to her ... and I shall add her to my prayers  - I was si glad that to read that you offerd to be there for her  - the support  of friends is so very important during this time - the support that the Vixter and I received from so many of you throughout my ordeal last year was an amazing source of comfort and strength to both of us and I will be eternally grateful for that

That's right!  And the Sutro Bath ruins were used to great effect in HAROLD AND MAUDE.

I've seen several productions that have tried to switch the opening of South Pacific and it never works.
I saw one that did, as your previous message said, opened with "There Is Nothing Like a Dame." They apparently couldn't get kids, because they never showed up in the show at all. They were just referred to. And Nellie's horror was from a photograph.

John G - did Nellie say anything to Emile like it's so sweet that you have a picture of Henry's children?

He said something about them being his children -- at the appropriate time, as I recall. This is going back about 30 years and the production was at a dinner theater notorious for abridging and censoring shows so the blue hairs in the audience wouldn't be offended.
