the plot is tired (even for 1955 or whatever year it was made)
Wonderful funeral synchronicity story, DR EDISAURUS.
I am intrigued...yes I am intrigued by the idea of an Alex North 2001 score.
Did anyone know that HHW own Julia Hansen is on the Grease reality show? Whatever it is called?
I think I have to buy said score, even though I've never been a big fan of the film. (I've had people tell me that I shouldn't even be making films if I don't think this is one of the greatest films ever made!)
I have may missed this earlier posting and I just found this by luck, but......

I liked 2001:A SPACE ODYSSEY more now than I did back in 1968.
I saw KING KONG in the theater DR MATTH - and I was meaning to tell you, I thought it was about a guy with a BIG nose!
And DR MATTH - that is why I am not buying the HOLLYWOODLAND dvd....it's not telling the story I want to see.
Well, well, look what I found on the internet.
www.britsuperstore.com
Will we never get to page four?
I also did some cleaning... and some craft items to the senior center here in Fargo.
From Dear Reader Iris:I had fun browsing the site. The fruit cakes don’t mention a marzipan topping, just frosting on one. The other one says it has a short shelf life which makes me wonder where the brandy is. I could have a field day in the candy section, except for the English chocolates, I prefer Lindt chocolate to Thornton’s.
My mother, who was born in England, always kept a tin of English toffees and other assorted English hard candies next to her bed. I was permitted to help myself when ever I wanted, and I did.
On my father’s side of the bed was a tin of chocolates. Goodness, no wonder I have a terrible sweet tooth and no control.
I find it's easier to get rid of things when you can find a good home for them. Lots of times I say, "I can't throw THAT out!" but am more than happy to give it to someone who has a use for it.
Edi, I have recipe for homemade peanut suet if you would like it.
I wasn’t as bored the second time I watched SPACE ODYSSEY, probably because I was home & could take breaks, do other things, read…..etc.
Here's a question for all you Hainsie/Kimlets:
I'm interested in furthering my music education. Many years ago, when I was a big fan of Karl Haas, I purchased his book, Inside Music, but never read it. (Unfortunately, it is not sufficient to merely purchase it, you must read the thing as well.) That's first on my list. What other books should I be considering? I do have some music background--I can read music and played the piano and classical guitar briefly--but am otherwise a novice. A great lover of music, but not really schooled in it. What do you all suggest?
Who here? Only me and elmore in the jernt.
I always preferred Mr. Mudugno's Volare to Mr. Martin's.One of my rarer 45s is Pia Angeli's version of "Volare".
So, who here will be watching the Super Bowl? Who here will be watching the Grease rerun? Who here will be dancing in their pantaloons?
Well, let's have reports on the Super Bowl, especially the outfits.
DR Ginny - did you ever download or whatever a copy of Brian Hyland's beautiful pop song "Ginny Come Lately"?
Dakota, you are here early!
Who here will be eating marzipan? Who here will be sitting on their couch like so much fish? Who here will be coming out of the closet that they just cleaned?
Gordon Lightfoot's "Cotton Ginny" :)
Last night's viewing was "Carmen". We enjoyed it very much. Beautiful locations. Mr Domingo was not that believable as Don José but it is Opera so such things are acceptable.
DR Jeanne, Karl Haas lost his intellectual capacity for me...
What sort of book would you like? Give me your parameters and I will recommend a few items.

Garage and closet cleaning vibes for Bruce and George!!

It has been the topic of much discussion, particularly the fact that on whatever website the contestants' bios were listed, Julia was listed as a "temp worker". I haven't seen the site and don't know Julia---I don't think she's posted since I join the site.
But now, looking at her bio on NBC:
http://www.nbc.com/Grease/contestants/juliana.shtml
she does list herself as an actress. And a fellow Aquarian!
Page 2!
I have to leave before I have no more friends on this board!
They changed it! Originally, "Temp worker" was shown as her occupation and under "Training," it said "Acting: 4 months"!!
::)
I wish I had some marzipan from Bruno's bakery.
Tomovoz, I believe Ben said the cake had both marzipan and frosting. I took that to mean the hard frosing my mother encased the cake with.
Dakota-Many of those Irish candies look English to me.
Ginny-All of my discussion group enjoyed THE HIGHEST TIDE by Jim Lynch.
I need to choose a book for May, any suggestions for a great discussion book? It really is time for us to read a classic but my brother highly recommends THE KING OF LIES by John Hart. Have you, or any DR’s read this book?
...
The Superbowl bores me almost as much a 2001.

Bruce-Just when I’m thinking I will have time to read more than my required book for my monthly group, I have to concentrate on finding a book for May, then I will be able to read HOW TO WRITE……
DR Tom, it was returned to me for more postage. That's why it took so long! And you were charged an extra kitten?
Yep Hard frosting would be the usual for such a cake DR Jane. Underneath would be a thick layer of Almond (paste) icing. We would not use the term "Marzipan" for the icing here in OZ - but it is much the same thing.
Such a fruit cake is the traditional cake here at Christmas and for Weddings.
Well, on second thought, I think I just need to sit and veg for a while... My brain is tired.
Laters...
Richard and I will be watching the Super Bowl. It's usually the only pro football game we watch all year and I always make some fun food for the evening. Just finished making a family specialty, called Stuffed Sandwiches. Grate a pile of sharp cheddar cheese, chop pitted ripe olives, and mix in together with bottled chili sauce. Stuff (hence, the name) the mixture into hot dog buns and wrap them in pairs in foil. Heat in a 350o oven until filling is hot (I can tell by the smell when they're done). What's interesting this year is that I made more filling than I had room for in the buns, so I used tortillas for the last 2. Film at 11.Sounds good....but I feel the need for a Prilosec!
I like these NPR guides. They're easy reading, not condescending, and full of informationm and recommendations.
I did have what my mother now uses as a substitute for popcorn (she has diverticulitis) Cheerios heated with butter and salt. It's actually not too bad
She can't have popcorn because of the kernals....I won't go into more details than that...
Has she tried the hulless pop corn?
So, who here will be watching the Super Bowl? Who here will be watching the Grease rerun? Who here will be dancing in their pantaloons?
I love eggs benedict - I had them yesterday at the Broadway Deli, where they were decidedly mediocre. Best Eggs Benedict ever was at the late great Ollie Hammond's on La Cienega, followed by the late great Nickodell's. I haven't had great Eggs Benedict in a 'coon's age.
JRand:
Favorite Stooges routine was the alphabet song. B A bay, B E bee, B I Bicky By B O Bo, etc. I think they were working a car wash while singing that tune.
I began my afternoon viewing with THE NEXT BEST THING. Despite Madonna's astonishing non-performance, I still find much of the film involving. And many in the supporting cast went on to have flourishing careers of their own: Neil Patrick Harris, Mark Valley, Michael Vartan.
I have to concentrate on finding a book for May, then I will be able to read HOW TO WRITE……
I looked at the Angele Dubeau recording; it looks like excerpts from pieces I know and don't know. It doesn't look like something I'd like, but if it directs to you look into the full compositions, then it has my support.
Tune in the Super Bowl, DR Jose - no brain strain there.
Is it a Chris that belongs to Ruth, when they say Ruth's Chris?

I saw Neal Patrick Harris in Cabaret and thought he was very good. And I love Michael Vartan---he played Lancelot in our TNT "Mists of Avalon". He's so yummy.

YAY! I get to go back to school tomarrow!

I have tried the cake suet but when I hang them from trees, raccoons steal the feeders! They are smart little devils! They know how to operate a cat door, too.
My feeling about all this: If it FEELS like 5 below zero, it IS 5 below zero.
Such a fruit cake is the traditional cake here at Christmas and for Weddings.
I love eggs florentine...basically the same thing except substituting spinach for canadian bacon.
Today, my sister and I went to my storage unit and got at least a third (but not nearly half) of the boxes and brought them to my house. Most were put in my living room because my garage is damp. The storage unit is unheated and a little damp also, but not as damp as my garage. :P So, I figure that if I empty out my extra bedroom (bring all that stuff downstairs) and get what's left out of the storage unit, I can put up shelves in the extra bedroom, go through all the boxes and get rid of stuff that I need to get rid of and keep only what I really want to keep.Do you think you will find any surprises amid the boxes?
Do you think you will find any surprises amid the boxes?
I discovered the new library branch near me had some neat cds....
A little Night music...
Man of La Mancha
Minnesota (an orchestral piece)
Monsoon Wedding....
and a couple of cds by BOND
I think Mbarnum would enjoy the soundtrack to Monsoon WEdding.
I need to do some work on my puter tonight and I think A Little Night Music would be a delightful treat...
DBF Jon is taking to Follies for Valentines. It is a show featuring a number of Sondheim pieces...
Has anyone ever seen or heard a good recording of Cole Porters "Anything Goes" ? I saw it once in college and I have been looking for the musical on CD. It had some nice tunes
So do i!!
I am hoping to locate some copies of cds that I like. I check out from the library first and if I really like them, I try and purchase copies of them.
Liz Callaway is on my list along with several musicals and other artists.

Which versions of A Little Night Music and Man of La Mancha have you gotten? Do you have (or have you heard) a recording of Follies?
If you want to find out all the different versions of musicals there are from around the world practically, go to the Cast Album database (http://www.castalbumdb.com/). It's quite comprehensive. It doesn't tell you what's available or where to get anything, but you can find out how many different recordings of Man of La Mancha (http://www.castalbumdb.com/titltitl.cfm?TNumber=389) there have been (19) as well as Anything Goes (http://www.castalbumdb.com/titltitl.cfm?TNumber=25) (17). :)
The library only limits 5 cds per checkout during the building of the new main library...
Yikes! Our library system allows up to 100 items checked out at one time.
NDSU does for faculty and staff..
The public library where I got the cds, is only limited to branch libraries at the moment and their collection is not really extensive. Most of the main library's is in storage and thus the limits to allow everyone a chance at the materials.
Concordia college in Moorhead has an extensive classical music collection
I would like to find Les Miserables.
One thing I am finding with my hearing loss, I can listen to musicals a lot easier and does nto wear my ears down like electronic based pop music.
Len Cariou also did this recording of "A Little Night Music"
Hermione Gingold is in this recording also.
He was in both the original Broadway cast and the movie with Elizabeth Taylor.
Really? I heard it was done as a movie but I have never seen it.
Glamourous life
I suspect the stage version is much more fun!
Eerie!!
