My thoughts on the GREASE contestants.

The women were all saddked with the musical trappings of Andrew Lloyd Webber, and since he was sitting right in front of them and on live TV, it couldn't have been easy for them.

And, unfortunately, some of them were stuck with incredibly difficult numbers: "Buenos Aires," for example, which Kate had to maneuver while walking down that long flight of stairs. I felt for her.

For the second performance in a row, Juliana sang her song well but showed absolutely no movement whatsoever. She planted herself on the upstairs railing to sing "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina" and was a statue. She's yet to be able to show any sense of fun or variance in her stage personality. I hope she gets an upbeat number next week.

Of the women, whom I continue to be semi-unimpressed with, Kathleen (who sang "Memory") was my favorite of the evening.

Let me say that I love Broadway shows....I love dramas, comedies, Shakespeare, musicals...and I welcome new shows and revivals and hope when the curtain goes up, that all of us are on the same page....but there is one show that NEVER fails to entertain me....from grade school to high school to college to professional productions.  Here is an excerpt from DR TOMovOZ's homeland....there are many clips here if you are interested.

I am fascinated by Josephine's choppers, and Captain Corcoran seems a bit lite in the loafers...but it still all works....   ;D

Nothing would give me greater pleasure. Unfortunately, it's not to be. However, I hope he knows he can e-mail or call if he needs any assistance.

Of the male GREASE contestants, I think three are potential Dannys:

Derek who had a very muscular rendition of "Footloose" tonight. But "Footloose" isn't much of a song to show off your singing. He looked REALLY pumped up otherwise, and two of the judges seemed to like him best.

Chad who really has to me the Danny look and did fine with "My Eyes Adore You" despite having the flu.

Austin who had an impossibly staged athletic number to "Ease on Down the Road" which he handled like a pro (which he is).

I don't understand the enthusiasm for Max. He had sour notes and was the least at ease of the finalists.

They are almost as pretty as my sparkly gold shoes that the four-year-old neighbor likes so much.

As for the sing-off, all of them sounded OK on the bits of the song each got to sing. However, for the two that the panel rejected, you could EASILY hear their shortcomings in the final renditions of "Sandy" and "Hopelessly Devoted to You." The judges made the right deciisions unquestionably, but the sing-off was a cheat.

(spoiler)

I think they NEVER should have brought the two amateurs back to start with. When you look at the routines that Austin and Derek did tonight, you KNOW that poor Matt could never have been able to pull something like that off with his level of inexperience right now.

Earlier today, I was here on my futon and I could hear my brother out in the living room, singing a song of his own composition to amuse his cat Sassy. I went out there to make fun of him, but we ended up making it into a duet. Sassy was very amused. I think the song is called "The Fishsticks Chorus."

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES had some good storylines tonight, all of which I enjoyed except the Gaby storyline. The writers are making her dumber and more desperate than she should be or has been made in the past.
