It appears that they did not, Vixmom. Some family member who could read and write kept track of the children's names and birth dates.

Gosh - how did she get a marriage certificate?

I've never seen a Panera with a drive-thru, either.  We are regulars at the 2 in Lima.

I don't think it was all that unusual back then, Vixmom.

My mother didn't have a birth certificate. I wonder what she would have done?

Depends.  If you were born outside a hospital, you can get affidavits of people who know when you were born, usually someone who was there or is related to you

Her older sister wrote to SS giving a list of the kids and their birthdays so she could draw social security.

I'm not at all surprised at the reaction to WONDERLAND.  Has Wildhorn ever been attached to anything that was successful either commercially or artistically?
I heard his Svengali was actually OK. I think it was his first show. Of course, it needed work and the work was never done, but ...

JEKYLL AND HYDE was hardly a flop.  Well, until David Hasselhoff.
It never earned a cent. None of his shows did on Broadway.

Maybe not on Broadway but he's made a lot outside of New York
Quote
Jekyll & Hyde, a cult favorite that ran almost four years, did not recoup its investment on Broadway, but it has made a fortune in productions around the world. Wildhorn's other shows have also been moneymakers away from Broadway, including a spate of musicals on romantic themes, such as Carmen; The Count of Monte Crisco; Rudolf: The Last Kiss; and Cyrano de Bergerac, which have been produced in Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Japan.

I love Paul's quote.

He was very serious watching a woman take a bag with three helium filled balloons out to her car.  It was hilarious. It was windy and he was convinced that the balloons would be taking off skyward because there were three of them in a bag...and the bag was bigger that what was in them.  LOL

I have a client from Somalia.  They don't have a government, so there is nowhere to get a government birth certificate.  All you can do is get affidavits

I'm wondering what Frank Wildhorn did to make so many people detest him.  Reading all the comments on the net, it clearly is a lot more than whether people  like his shows or not.  I just don't get demonizing someone because you don't like the music or plays he writes.  There has to be something more

I've never seen one with a drive thru either.  DR GEORGE, was there a different business in the building before it became Panera

I liked Jeckyll and Hyde. Of course I didn't see it in New York, I saw it on tour in Des Moines.  Maybe that's the difference ;)

Back from a seder in New Jersey, where much matzoh and many jelly rings and macaroons were consumed.
