I thought that one was a towhee of some kind. We have Abert's towhees as yard birds here. Spotted towhees in the winter (not in town, usually).

All of my uncles as well as my father served in WW II; my Uncle Bud was a air force career man (he's the one who was Marilyn Monroe's escort on her USO tour of Korea); I knew at an early age that I would never be eligible to serve due to health issues.

Must be the Rottweiler in him-lol. I think it is great you did the DNA testing. We wish it had been available when we had Belle, our "Belgian Shepherd"

Back from tape listening session and the news is all good and I've just put in for the licenses on all three titles - this in addition to the cast album title I signed the contract for last week. There's another potential cast album coming, too, if everything works out.

The draft ended the year I was a juinor in high school much to the relief of my male classmates

however grwoing up I watched the boys in my neighborhood leave one by one for The War.

The boy next door who used to watch us when my folks went out joined the Marines - when he came home he would not leave his yard without holding his mother's hand

his best friend, who used to come and help watch us lost both arms, a leg and his sight.

The boy on the next corner who used to play ball with us didn't come back at all.

It was a terrible time.

I have two older male cousins, the one with the low draft number has such bad eyesight that he is very clsoe to legally blind and he did not pass the physical - the other one lucked out with a high draft number and was never called

The Vixter heard about Selective Service Registration at school and was quite concerned that it would apply equally to both sexes and that she would be forced to go to Iraq on her 18th birthday

We were able to releive her fears by assuring her that she was in no danger of being drafterd and that in fact neither were her classmates at the moment as there is no draft currently.

I wonder if the Equal Rights for Women Amendment had ever been passed whether the Selective Service registration would apply to both sexes......

I vaguely remember having to sign up when I turned 18. My dad (who retired after 20 years in the army when I was 11) took me to the recruitment center. I never was called to serve.

Dad had his surgery Friday, they had to slice his leg from buttock to knee to get the tumor out of his thigh. It had wrapped arpund the main nerve of the leg as well as the muscles.

It seesm that he has not sustained any nerve damage as he can still wiggle his toes and move his foot on command. We are still awaiting the results of the biopsy.
