I adore SCROOGE, but I will agree with CP about the hell scene which was unneeded and brings the show to a screeching halt.

I saw it first at Radio City Music Hall and have loved it ever since. I think the score is a tonic (including "Happiness" which I think is one of the loveliest and most haunting ballads from an original musical ever), and Finney superb (so did the Hollywood Foreign Press who voted him Best Actor in a Musical in 1970).

Does anyone know for certain whether it's true that the song "People" (which of course ended up in FUNNY GIRL) was actually written by Jule Styne and Bob Merrill for MR. MAGOO'S CHRISTMAS CAROL?

I forgot Patrick Stewart.  I have an excellent  DVD of aone-man show he did of  Christmas Carol.  Is this the one to which you are referring , Elmore.  Or is there another?

Ron, I'll be curious to get your opinion of Scrooge.  Like Elmore, I had the urge to walk away but the three of us watching were having great fun riffing on it...and after even that paled, it was just sorta like watching a train wreck and you had to stay to the bitter end.

I watched one more episode on TWICE UPON A CHRISTMAS - "Christmas Impossible" with Huey, Dewey, and Luey, but they didn't sound anything like the characters I remembered so fondly from my childhood, so I didn't enjoy it much.

TNT did a nice version a few years ago, although they were a little heavy on the effects. Richard Grant, an actor I like very much, played my favorite Bob Cratchit.

Next I put in TALLADEGA NIGHTS. As someone who was brought up in the heart of NASCAR country, there was much for me to laugh at in this silly farce. Nope, not a great movie, but it's only trying for silly laughs, and it got them from me.

And there are some very able actors in the cast besides Will Ferrell: John C. Reilly, Jane Lynch, Gary Cole, Sasha Baron Cohan (who steals every scene he's in), Andy Richter, Michael Clarke Duncan.

Trivia: The composers Bob Merrill and Jule Styne offered a song entitled "People" for the score but the animation had already been completed and it was too late to include it. Instead they added it to the score of a Broadway musical they were writing called "Funny Girl", where it became the first of many hits for the star, Barbra Streisand.

Next I watched a MEDIUM episode from the last disc in the set. This was the one with the blind girl sensing there was a stranger in the bedroom with her. I remember Allison's dreams totally confusing me the first time I saw this. Of course, on a revisit, things were much clearer.

Stewart did a TBS or TNT adaptation in 1999.  It was being rebroadcast the other night and I got suckered right in.  I think I like George C Scott's better, but this is good, with some really scary moments.

After that, I watched the show I recorded for DR Edi: LIFE AFTER TOMORROW, interviews with women who played either Annie, orphans, or both in the Broadway and national tours of ANNIE.

Fascinating stories they had to tell, and I did enjoy the show very much.

When I worked for Drama Book Shop, Marlo Thomas' assistant was the biggest pain-in-the-ass with phone orders, demands, and returns because she was also an idiot.  We hated both her and Marlo.

I ended the evening rewatching the "date" episode of BROTHERS & SISTERS since it featured the show's major gay character on the receiving end of two kisses, something still relatively rare in prime time television.

Looking forward to the show resuming, especially since Jason Lewis (from SEX & THE CITY) will be joining the cast for six or so episodes as another potential love interest for gay son Kevin.
