Thanks DR GINNY....I was sort of looking at them on Amazon, but couldn't quite figure it out.  Not convinced yet.....but I am thinking about it.....

Do the pictures in books show up well on the Kindle?

Depends on what kind of Kindle you have.  Mine's 2 years old now and only black and white.  The pictures are OK.  Rob has the Kindle Fire, which is more tablet-like and does a better job with graphics.

I especially love my Kindle for traveling.  In fact, I just bought a duplicate of the book that my group is reading for November and December - Robert Massie's bio of Catherine the Great.  I'd bought the huge paperback last month, but didn't want to lug it to Indianapolis.  It's now on my Kindle, too, and the e-version cost almost as much as the dead tree version.

I stopped at Penn Station and got my train tickets, and now I am home and dealing with emails.

DR JRand62, my sister-in-law and DR Ginny may be crazy about the Kindle, but I am much happier holding a book and turning a page.

Speaking of books, this A GOOD AND HAPPY CHILD by Justin Evans is getting good and creepy. I have no idea where it's going, but it's creeping me out. If you like a chilly read, I recommend it.

I've written checks and done banking and in a little while I'll go to the mail place to hopefully pick up some packages and mail envelopes.  Then I'll try to do the jog, then there's some work to do on the computer, then I go eat and see a show.

Thank you. Headache is gone. I often wake up with headaches. No, it is not alcohol-induced.

It may be caused by reading my posts the ngiht before?

TCB, regarding your Brent Barrett comments last night: You can tell in that clip from "Grand Hotel," which I have watched dozens of times, that Jeter's character (or maybe just Jeter) is swooning, too. Barrett is certainly stunning. And he has that ineffable ham charm. The reason I would need to see his "Kiss Me, Kate" again would be to see if he could accomplish what Alfred Drake did in a severely truncated version of the show: He almost made me cry at Fred's reprise of "So in Love." In that moment, the ego was stripped bare, the heartbreak was there. He was genuinely moving in a show that's more known for its wit than his heart.

Speaking of Mr. Barrett, I wonder if DR Kevin will be dropping by NYC next Monday?

I got a license renewal form today - have to go down there to renew, but I don't have to take a written test - just the eye test and fingerprint.  On the back it says call for an appointment.  I called.  I think I got one, but they said the confirmation number so fast that I couldn't write it down and nothing I did would work to get it repeated.  Plus, how in HELL do they even know who I am - it never asked for my name, just where I wanted to make the appointment.  Now I'm waiting for a "phone technician" to call me back.  It's almost an hour wait time so I fear the jog isn't happening today, since I was going to go right after I'd made the appointment.  Ridiculous.  So now I'm stuck here until they call back.  If that's by three, I could still go do a two-mile jog so hopefully it will be.

Time for dinner.

Tomorrow morning, I will do laundry while I wait for UPS. I've got new sheets, and a couple of new shirts and pants, so if I do laundry tomorrow, life will be easier over the weekend. I've got a Jerome Moross score to proof as well as more ROBERTA work.

TOD:

I have never owned a bicycle, I don't know how to ride one.

This is very unusual.  Growing up did your friends also not have bikes?

I am thinking about getting a Kindle.  But....is it a wireless device?  Do you download books to your computer and then put them on your kindle?  Or do you have to have a wireless router to buy books directly onto your Kindle?

With my Kindle, it has Wifi.  I download the books directly from Amazon onto my Kindle.  It is usually there in about three minutes.

Good to hear.  Maybe allergy induced as I suspect my morning headaches are.

DR JRand, the Kindle is equipped with built-in wireless, which allows you to download books directly to the device.  Conventional wisdom, though, recommends that you keep the wireless turned OFF when you're not downloading to preserve your battery.  Also, if you've borrowed an ebook from your library it doesn't disappear from your Kindle, even after the due date, until you turn the wireless on.

I might have been seven when I got my first bike.  My mother put me on the bike, ran full speed, and let go.  Totally surprised she did this, and unable to control the bike I crashed hard into the bushes.  I think it took me a year or two to ride my bike.  It totally destroyed my trust in anyone hold the back of the bike.  Finally my sister gave me a gift of a box set of pretty pencils in various colors.  She then said if I didn't go out and ride my bike she would take the gift back.  Guess what I immediately did :)

I rode my bike everywhere, all over the Hills of Cheviot and beyond.   My parents would never get me a 3 speed bike as my brother & sister's bikes had been left to rust.  I rode that bike until I was about 15 when my sister, who only had a rusted bike so rode mine, said my bike had a flat tire and she left it someplace on Pico Blvd.  She wouldn't drive back to get it and that was the end of my bike.

I guess I should have never brought up Brent Barrett and / or his performance in the DVD of KISS ME KATE.  I said it more in jest, because (sorry John) I don't care for Alfred Drake in anything.  I happen to be a fan of Brent's, not only because of his fine singing voice, but also because he is a damn nice gentleman in person.  I also happen to like ham chunks, cheese slices, and cranberries.

I am cooking a roast for dinner tonight, but I guess I will have to go without mashed potatoes.  While trying to get the roast out of its packaging, I attempted to slice off the very tip of my thumb.  I got it to stop bleeding right away, but everytime I start trying to do anything in the kitchen with my hands, it starts to bleed again.  Washing and scrubbing the potatoes seems a bit beyond my abilities for the day.

And I still have a little bit of shredded cheddar cheese left over from my attempt at a 5 Way.  I think that sounds tasty on the potato.
