At the pre-inauguration fundraiser, organized along with several other dinners by food guru Alice Waters, passed hors d'oeuvres included carrots, lettuce and cauliflower — untarnished and raw, delicious in their natural form. Sweet beets had been recently chiseled from Stone Barns' frozen ground, and hog snouts left over from slaughter were used as a garnish on a plate of Maine sea scallops.

Oh, I do so want to be there when DR Jane does her patriotic duty and consumes a plate of sea scallops with pig snout garni.  :D

 ;D ;D

I do eat fish when I'm out, however, I NEVER eat scallops :P and you know I'm not have pig snout garni. ;D

I showed your post to Keith & he didn't laugh, just stated it reminded him of his Russian business dinner.  I think he still has nightmares from the pig's head placed next to him as he was the honored guest.

DR TOMovOZ - I have looked under the title of REBELS WITHOUT A CAUSE but the CD listed at Amazon doesn't have all of the singers you have been listening to!
Ditto.  Actually, I couldn't find the right one at all.

I guess I shouldn't post about the ghastly death casued by a urinary tract infection.

der Brucer

I am curious if the person was an idiot & ignored the symptoms, didn't have any until it was too late, or just too poor to go to a doctor.

No, she was a prominent model in Brazil:

MODEL DIES AFTER LOSING HANDS, FEET TO URINARY TRACT INFECTION

Quote
Bridi twice was a finalist in the Brazilian stage of the Miss World beauty pageant, according to local media, and participated in the 2007 Miss Bikini International contest.

Bridi fell ill in December and doctors originally diagnosed her with kidney stones, local media said. But her condition worsened and doctors then diagnosed a urinary tract infection that spread. She was hospitalized on Jan 3.

Once she was hospitalized, doctors discovered septicemia had set into her limbs, cutting off circulation.

They were forced to amputate.

If anything, it sounds like a Doctor screw-up.

Looks like Skip's show HERRINGBONE has been announced for La Jolla Playhouse this summer, in August/September.

DRs Kerry  & JRand - Amazon.com is not the world. lol.  Not all CDs are produced in the USA nor are they all distributed through Amazon.

Canetoad Records.com  is the Cd producer though I don't think the CD is actually listed on their website as yet.

I've written about five pages.  I don't really have to write any more today, but if I feel like it I may do another couple.

I now have the OSS movie and also the Mary Martin Hello, Dolly! but not the envelope that really needs to get here.  If it's not here on Monday, I'm going to ask for it to be overnighted - it's a check and they can stop payment and resend.

Was there any mention of Tom Collichio giving the heimlich maneuver to Alice Waters at one of the Inaugural dinners earlier this week?

Maybe someone told her she was eating pig snout. that would make me choke

I knew I was tired, but didn't realize how tired.  I slept about 10 hours last night and have been dragging today.  I did go to the office for a little while and went to Petco and the grocery store.  Don't think I'll go to Gran Torino tonight.  I'll probably stay home and watch In the Bruges and Burn after Reading

If you saw what a large scale hog confinement is really like, you'd turn your nose up too.  Besides there are more hogs than people in Iowa, I don't want them mad at me :)

Then of course, there is this http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=new-drug-resistant-mrsa-in-pigs

A New Strain of Drug-Resistant Staph Infection Found in U.S. Pigs
If the newly arrived European strain leads to disease in humans, it would further complicate the struggle against antibiotic-resistant MRSA

I also have a copy of the Filmed version of the opera "The Eternity Man".  I think it may be of interest to DRs JoJO, Door and Elmore.   I'll send it to one of you to share!
