Well, you've read the notes, the notes croweth, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - the cows are currently angry with the cocks - the cows mooeth and the cocks croweth and the whole thing is one big meth.

And the word of the day is: LISSOM!
-
Well, we made the number five all-time posting position.
-
Will we never get to page two?
-
I gotta tell you.
-
THe first Hitchcock film I saw was BIRDS while I was babysitting in high school. That movie gave me nightmares...
I love Rear Window and Vertigo.....
-
I think it was in the early 80s they used to have a program on the telly that was something like Alfred Hitchcock presents. I remember liking some of those
-
I think "all-time" posting records must be allowed to happen without anticipating them.
It was not one of those Oscar years in which folks were jazzed about the nominees, IMO.
That's probably one of the reasons folks didn't participate as much as in the past.
-
I think you're right.
-
I think I am going to crash... It is after 2 am here.
Pleasant dreams everyone!
-
That said, neither was last year, but somehow it just took on a life of its own, but we had three or four more people who, this year, were errant and truant.
-
Good night Gentlemen....

It was not one of those Oscar years in which folks were jazzed about the nominees, IMO.
That's probably one of the reasons folks didn't participate as much as in the past.
There was more at work - last year we were about 300 posts ahead of this year when the Oscars started! The day was filled with lots of Oscar food jokes and comments on Joan Rivers pre-show, and most posters were about. Yesterday there were a bunch of regulars absent throughout much of the day (me, Woody, Cillaliz, Edisaurus, etc.). By the time the telecast was over, and I had caught up, the thread was closed (not that I had any particular insightful comments - like many of you I was just plain bored). And I also think the attempts to avoid controversy led to a general dampening of the hi-jinks.
Frankly it's difficult to do a fun show about a group of "not-fun" movies - the show reflected the nominees - too serious and a bit full of itself.

Good morning, all! I missed the Oscars, as I said I would, socatching up on all the posts isn't difficult because I can't relate to nearly all of them. I watched the PBS final third of PRIDE & PREJUDICE and turned off the lghts around 10:45.
I have all morning to get these 43 cartons into my hallway, label 21 of them, call Fed Ex support, print out a manifest for the pickup, and work on my other assignments this morning. I believe the pickup is scheduled between noon and 7 pm, so I'm pretty much stuck around the apartment today.

Let me tell you this is no country for old men.

TOD:
I knew Alfred Hitchcock from his television show. The first movie of his that I saw was THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH which was on a drive-in double bill in 1958 or 1959. I don't remember the main feature, probably a western which my father liked to see - so it may have been a John Wayne movie.
BUT I do remember THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH and Doris Day and James Stewart desperate to find their son....and I remember they said they were from Indianapolis.... And I remember Doris singing that song, which I knew by the end of the movie. I had heard it before but I didn't know it was from a movie. The Concert Hall sequence had me so tense and nervous, I ate the whole front of my shirt.....
Center-Brook Drive In......
-
The only OTHER Hitchcock film I saw that wasn't on television was NORTH BY NORTHWEST again at the drive-in sometime in the 1960's on a double bill with THE WILD BUNCH.
-
Casting vibes for MR BK.....carry a pic of Miss Allison around with you....she will bring you luck.
-
At the encouragement of DR MATTH and with comments by DR MBARNUM, I went this morning and bought an up convert DVD player and cable which I will attempt to install directly.
Pray for Rosemary's Baby.
DRs JMK and RLP also have written many comments about the difference in their viewing regular DVD's in this way, so I thought since I have a 21st century Television, I might as well have a 21st Century player.
I did not go ahead and buy a Blu Ray player since DR MATTH said that the price would be lower in the future. The Phillips player I bought was only $45 + 13.99 for the cable.
-
I will be back when my task is accomplished.

OMG - The Gentrys from 1965.....it was their song in that JC PENNEY commercial.

And yes that is Jimmy Hart (the Mouth of the South 'rassling promoter) singing with the band.

RE: the Oscars last night. Well i have like 30 pages here to catch up on.
But i will say that I loved the ENCHANTED number with Kristin Chenoweth. It was one of my favorite things about the show last night. I loved that song in the movie. ANd i actually thought it came across as well as it could last night. I loved that they made it a huge production number.
I am curious who the entertainment shows will pick as best and worst dressed. I love jennifer hudson. But i thought that white dress made her bust look awful.
I also did not care for that thing wrapped around cate blanchett's neck (on her dress).
I really liked jennifer garner's black dress.
And loved the two bold flashy diamond necklaces (keri russell and nicole kidman).
I thought cameron diaz's dress was too pale. And it looked like it needed ironing.
Katherine Hiegel and Anne Hathoway looked great in red.
I didn't like kelly preston's (john travolta's wife)dress. On my tv the color was such a bright weird yellow. I just did not like the color at all.
Marion C had a very unusual fish style dress. I would like to see that better. I think it was quite different and original. And the fact that she was glowing all night made it look sort of sweet on her.
-
All 43 cartons are labeled, ready to go and sitting in my hallway. Jaymie only has so much time now to get the fire dept back to complain.
I need to call Fed Ex and have them explain some things I need to do to close out for the day. Oy!
I can't say I missed the vastly over-rated Ms Chenoweth, one of my least favorite conservatives. Her reps have convinced her she's a leading lady and she's really a character woman who rates best from limited exposure.
-
I saw the Fred Ebb Tribute at Lyrics and Lyricists. I was quite surprised that Diana Canova did not include "First Nudie Musical" in her bio. Is she ashamed of the title? She has worked so little since then that I would think she would have included this film. At least Brent Barrett did include his two BK-produced CDs in his bio (and most of what he sang was from the K&E one).

And the word of the day is: LISSOM!

Monday morning greetings! It was nice to get ready for work today without worrying about the road conditions. My workday will end at Wright State University, where I'm speaking to a class at 4:30.

So much to catch up on.
After seeing IN THE HEIGHTS in the afternoon, I had gone into the tax office and found much to-do and to do. So I was working at tax stuff with the Oscars in the background, and couldn't keep up with HHW and the tax work at the same time. My goal is to catchup on last night's posting ASAP.

Good morning!
After a gloomy few days this weekend, we're in for some spring weather today with high in the 60s. Not a cloud in the sky as I type these words.
-
DR WEL - it has been my experience that an actor lists a LOT of stuff that is edited by the person putting together bios for the PlayBill....NUDIE musical may have fallen victim to a cut like that.
-
DR JRand,
Don't forget to go in the setup menu for the Philips player and tell it what resolution to use in the upconversion. If you just let it default to factory settings, I think it defaults only to 480p which is probably what your old player did.
Congrats on your purchase.
-
Ta DA!
LOL DR SINGDAW, it wasn't quite that bad, although the first thing I did was unhook the Comcast HD Box from my television instead of my DVD player.
I just took two small connections - DVD player to TV and DVD player to Home Theatre System. Voila!
I picked up the first DVD handy which happened to be MOVE OVER DARLING with Doris and James and Polly....it looked fantastic!
Thanks for the encouragement here at HHW....or should that be the enablers?

Ha! I was looking at the Borders 40% off boxed set coupon and wondering if they had the Stanley Kramer boxed set. I would love to have SHIP OF FOOLS, too, plus IIRC there were some extras on the Dr. T DVD...
Did you get the Kramer set?

I, too, greatly enjoyed Kristin Chenoweth last night. She handled the busy staging like a pro, her voice was sure and steady, and the number held my attention.
-
If ENCHANTED comes in the mail today (looks doubtful at this point), I'll watch that today. If not, I'll finish with the audio commentary on DAN IN REAL LIFE and then begin on NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. It doesn't come out until mid-March, but I might as well get to it now.

Maybe one of your DRs can help me (I bet BK will know this one): I remember an Alfred Hitchcock Presents probably from around 1963 that had the kid that played Dil (isn't he Connie Stevens' brother?) and it had something to do with a magic shop. I just remember how scared I was, and I seem to remember the magic shop disappears at the end when they go back to find it. Sound familiar to anyone?

Well, here's more of a stumper for you, and one I have been wondering about for years. I saw this when I was very young, I'm sure it wasn't a Twilight Zone, it may have been a One Step Beyond, or something similar, but it was about a guy who went to this electronic fortune teller thing. She was a robot sitting in a big chair. IIRC, she kept telling him he was going to die, and again IIRC, at the end he touches her and she short-circuits and he is electrocuted. Ring a bell with anyone?
Then there was another one that I thought was a Twilight Zone, but I don't think is, about an old bi-plane that people keep seeing flying around, and I remember very vividly there's a close-up and it's a skeleton flying the plane. Any takers on that one?
That exhausts my scary childhood television memories for the moment. :)
-
Good day one and all...
-
I cannot watch PSYCHO....
-
I do like TO CATCH A THIEF
-
It's funny, because when I got the new TZ complete set, I was finally able to piece together a long-held scary memory. My parents took us to Las Vegas on the way to L.A. when I was very young once and I remember to this day they had tickets to see Steve & Eydie and my sisters were left in charge at the hotel and wanted to watch TZ. It was one of the hour-long episodes, and all I remembered was a bad car crash where a shaggy dog got killed. It turned out to be an episode with Ed Nelson about a "Brigadoon" type town with technology from the future.

Tonight I will record RAISIN IN THE SUN and MEDIUM. And the 2nd episode of DAMAGES also airs tonight.
Btw, for those who watch DEXTER, I saw the 2nd episode on Saturday. and i am curious how much more blood and gore there is in the un-cut version. What they are showing on CBS is basically my limit (and i still don't like that much).
So i was just wondering how much more there is on the real version. And also is it only the gore scenes that are adjusted. Or is there other material too?
-
Yes, DR JMK - John Megna is Connie Stevens' half brother, they share a mother.

TV Reminders:

I liked Kristin's song from ENCHANTED the most. But i also really enjoyed the song Amy Adams sang. Although i would have liked it if she had worn her princess costume from the movie.
I mean if she wasn't going to wear her Oscar dress, then i would have rather seen something more in character.
RE: helen mirren's dress. It was just okay for me.
I loved the body of it. But those sleeves totally didn't look right to me with that dress color. It just looked like someone had created a dress and then was told that the woman didn't like her arms, and so they created that lace.

One last Oscar comment (and i'm only on page 29 from last night's posts so i haven't gotten to this point yet), but i was really happy they let that girl who won Best Song come back on to say something.
I don't know if it's a rule set it stone. But i hate when 2 people want to speak and they cut off the 2nd person before they've even said boo.
I get it if the first person takes a long time. But it just seemed to me like they were cutting off mikes after a very short time.
I prefer when they just play the music louder.
And to have all those unnecessary (although somewhat entertaining) past clips, when the winners cannot even speak for a minute ...
Well i was really happy jon stewart told that girl she could come back on stage. I had been particularly annoyed that she had not been allowed to say anything.
-
Paraphrasing from BACK TO THE BEACH:
Connie Stevens: Frankie is the kind of guy you couldn't catch without a net
Frankie: Connie, you remember Annette, don't you?
-
Okay i have to chime in. I loved nicole kidman's necklace.
Her dress was so simple that the necklace added sparkle!
obviously you would not normally wear something with that many diamonds.
But for the Oscars i thought it was great!
-
First Hitchcock movie for me was THE BIRDS. I saw it listed in the newpaper's tv listings when I was a kid and thought it was a musical. My mom would not allow me to watch it...so of course that made me really want to see it...and I did see it...and it was not a musical! :o

As for the Topic of the Day...
I think the first one I ever saw was "The Birds" too. On TV, when I was eight or nine years old. It never really scared me, but it scared my brothers. I seem to remember it being shown during some sort of "Hitchcock Festival" that one of the local affiliates was broadcasting - a different Hitchcock film each night of the week. I distinctly remember some sort of documentary about Hitchcock himself, and that's where I learned about his cameos in his films. So, I just started watching his movies to play "Where's Alfred?". It wasn't until years later that I really started watching and appreciating his movies. I'd have to say "Rope" has really grown on me lately.

My gosh I think that's DRs JEANNE and JANE MR BK dancing down in front of the band.
Sorry, Jack, it may indeed have been Jane and I, but it's unlikely it was BK--getting BK to dance was, well, pretty close to impossible in those days.
-
When I was little, we watched "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" religiously on TV, so I was well aware of Mr. Hitchcock and his reputation. "Psycho" and "The Birds" were getting a lot of press at the time, but I did not see them then. I probably saw a rerun of "39 Steps" or "Lifeboat" first. One of the first movies I really paid attention to of his was "Rear Window" which still holds up remarkably well. The first one of his I really waited to see was "Vertigo" and was worth the wait. "Man Who Knew Too Much" was probably one of the earlier ones I saw and still classic Hitchcock. I prefer this period of Hitchcock to "Rope" and "Strangers on a Train." Hitchcock was a master showman and really knew how to get publicity-- so even the later things (like "Psycho" and "The Birds" which, to me, are weaker movies) have so much hype about them even before you've even seen them.
"North by Northwest" is another of his best-- smooth, suave, cool and terrifying. Although I like "To Catch a Thief" for all its style and brilliance, I actually think "North by Northwest "is a better movie, and Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint play so well off of each other.
-
DR RLP is certainly agreeable this morning.
Or being quite arch.
I can't decide.

Me, neither.

The absolute best! Screenwriter Andrew Davies does Miss Austen the favor of fleshing out Mr Darcy's character since the novel is ironically observed more through Elizabeth Bennett. Colin Firth is perhaps a more Byronic character than Austen intended, but his action in the novel is all told from a past viewpoint and Davies brings him into the present scene. It's quite wonderful!
-
Favorite Oscar Dress: Dame Helen Mirren.
Even I would look good in something that shade of red.
Of course, I'd want something that covered my shoulders and back. Otherwise I'd end up looking like that gal who won for best costumes! :P
;)

VIBES to ELMORE!

Oh, and hello, everyone!
-
Sorry, Jack, it may indeed have been Jane and I, but it's unlikely it was BK--getting BK to dance was, well, pretty close to impossible in those days.
And yet, in "First Nudie Musical".... :)
-
Me too.
Concur!

Oh Edi!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, and hello, everyone!
Morning, Jeanne! ;D
-
DR DAKOTA CELT you are up early for getting to bed so late.

Boo.

getting BK to dance was, well, pretty close to impossible in those days.
Of course NOWADAYS it takes little more than the meerest sip of diet coke. ;)

What did people think of Nicole's necklace. I thought it looked like someone had puked diamonds all over her. ;)
THAT'S the word I was looking for! Thank-you!

Even I would look good in something that shade of red.
Well, the next "red shirt" day at the store, you could surprise 'em all...

DR DAKOTA CELT you are up early for getting to bed so late.
I ususally get up around 10 central....
However it is early per bk's time....

I noticed that didn't-wanna-be-here-last-night DR Ron decided to join us after all--after his nappypoo, that is. And contributed some pretty snarky comments. I'd say his snark quotient is quite up to snuff. I shall therefore ignore all those comments about viruses--that guy's in fine fettle!

I average aroud 6 - 7 hours of sleep a night

Not only that, but fit as a fiddle, and fairly flibbertigibbet!

TOD:
I've never seen a Hitchcock movie I didn't like, but I do concur with other DRs that UNDER CAPRICORN would be my least fave. First Hitch must have been TV--I know I was familiar with his work prior to THE BIRDS.
SPOILER ALERT!! MORE OF JEANNE'S FAMILY HISTORY FOLLOWS!
If I haven't already mentioned it, my dad was the one who rigged things up so that the birds would escape at the right time. I heard a lot about it at the time, so I remember it.
-
I've always loved REAR WINDOW.
-
INteresting Jeanne....
-
I've always loved REAR WINDOW.
Me too....
I watched again over the weekend....
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
Nice film, ROPE.
-
I can't remember if der Brucer mentioned it, but we went to see No Country for Old Men yesterday, before having dinner at the Shainghai Buffet and settling in for the Oscarcast.
At first, it struck me as another Fargo, only a lot drier.
And a lot bloodier.
And without that cheery chipper.
But a couple of things bothered me.
First, I had to explain plot points to der Brucer after we left the theater. There were things that I caught that he didn't, and that's not typical. The few times it does happen, it bothers me.
And much later, this morning in fact, what had really bothered me about the film came clear:
At last, Sean Hannerty has an Oscar-winning film that he can love.
Not only does the film portray every single Hispanic in a negative or stereotypical light (even the mariachi players are out to get money from the gringo collapsed on the stairs), but the indifference of the guy at the border crossing plays right into Hannerty's political agenda.
I only wish I were trying to be funny here. But I'm not.
-
I Have Been A Willful Tease?

Regarding Dessert, A Macaroon And Grand Marnier Delight?
Rainy Days and Mondays.....

And yet, in "First Nudie Musical".... :)
Yes, I know. That was incredible! I felt like saying, "Bruce! See! You can dance!"

TOD:
Earliest: Either North By Northwest or Rear Window.
Favorite: Either North By Northwest or Rear Window. With Psycho as a runner-up.
Least Favorite: something everyone else seems to have forgotten about: Topaz. I can't imagine why anyone would forget Topaz. ::)
-
So, let me get this straight - der Brucer and S. Woody did watch the Oscarcast and yet did not come to the partay. Have I got that straight? Partay poopers of the highest order.
-
I noticed that didn't-wanna-be-here-last-night DR Ron decided to join us after all--after his nappypoo, that is. And contributed some pretty snarky comments. I'd say his snark quotient is quite up to snuff. I shall therefore ignore all those comments about viruses--that guy's in fine fettle!
Oh, I dunno....I thought my snark factor was a bit off the mark last night.
-
Bruce should have written FIRST NUDIE MUSICAL BEFORE he took me to the prom!
-
I'm up, but I sure wanted to sleep later than nine-fifteen.
-
Oh, well, much to do, including a ninety minute rehearsal with Spirtas and Purl I'd forgotten about.
-
And I must finished my first go-through proofing the book and then get my changes entered so I can give it to my two proofers who really go through and make sure everything's fine.

Not only that, but fit as a fiddle, and fairly flibbertigibbet!
Curious....

Quite possible. ;)

DC JJ is taking care of that part.

Of course NOWADAYS it takes little more than the meerest sip of diet coke. ;)
You've seen BK dance???
-
So, let me get this straight - der Brucer and S. Woody did watch the Oscarcast and yet did not come to the partay. Have I got that straight? Partay poopers of the highest order.
So, let me get this straight - you expect us to a) watch the Oscarcast, while b) dashing over to the computer to keep up with the partay, while c) the computer isn't even in the same room as the television?
There's multi-tasking, and there's multi-tasking that reduces the fun of both parts that are being multi-tasked.
And no, we are not going to re-configure the house simply so that we can watch television and post at the same time. Someone might complain about our doing so and not giving spoiler warnings.
(Not you, esteemed BK. You are never that unseemly. But someone else might.)
(Besides, Bonnie spent the entire Oscarcast curled up on der Brucer's legs, and he couldn't have moved to get to the computer even if he'd wanted to. One mustn't disturbe the Princess.)
-
I Have Been A Willful Tease?
;D ;D ;D
-
DC JJ is taking care of that part.
Yes, and I need to head downstairs to feed said DC.
And to check for phone messages.

Oh, I dunno....I thought my snark factor was a bit off the mark last night.
A different flavor of snark, but definitely hit the mark.
-
Perhaps we should ask DR JOSE or SWW about snark flavors.
-
It wouldn't surprise me if DR FJL has tasted snark ice cream.
-
My apartment is starting to look wonderful! I've got all the vocal scores organized, the floor is ready for tomorrow's vacuuming and mopping - I can't do it today aince I'm stuck here waiting for Fed Ex - and lunch is on the stove.
I'm rather contented at the moment.
-
Oh! I passed my next milestone and didn't even notice. For BK's benefit I vowed I'd make 100 posts to atone, atone, atone.
I doubt that he even noticed.
-
I'm rather contented at the moment.
I'm glad to hear that, Larry. You've had so much to deal with lately. Maybe contentment can stick around for a while?
-
A question for DR JRAND:
What the h*** is going on with the planets? Last week was really weird and so far this week is unseemly as well. I feel out of sorts, not myself. I'm rarely like this. What's going on?
-
I like sing's version better.
Me, too.
-

There must be some sort of planetary (or, possibly, space rock) alignment at work here.
-
It wouldn't surprise me if DR FJL has tasted snark ice cream.
Me, neither. And DR spankmaw, too.
-
Perhaps we should ask DR JOSE or SWW about snark flavors.
Particularly DR Jose who specializes in same.
-
A different flavor of snark, but definitely hit the mark.
So...even somewhat ill and after having an all-I-could eat shrimp supper during the Oscars, I was totally "on the mark".
Sooper!
-
I think I'm better, and I'm at work, but I'm having some "interesting" moments.
The less said, the better.
-
This week, we are supposed to have some rather nice, spring-like weather.
I think it's time I started my morning walking routine again. Have been out of it for a month or so.
-
And DR spankmaw, too.
I am but as the moon.
I have no "snark" of my own, but merely reflect its source.

Office dynamics seem to be on a shaky start this Monday. One of my co-workers seems to believe the telephone is inadequate as an instrument of amplification and doubles her volume when she talks, thus ensuring EVERYone hears her conversations.
I'm going to close her door next time. Maybe that will get her attention.
-
I am but as the moon.

Good Afternoon!
Well... One load of laundry is now in the dryer... I vacuumed the downstairs areas (kitchen, living room, bedroom)... And I have a sneaking suspicion that I may tackle a box-o-stuff or two this afternoon.
Yep, something is definitely going on with those planets. ;)

Alas, Ms. Stewart prefers her guests to have limited culinary and crafting abilities. So... That was a good thing.

But i will say that I loved the ENCHANTED number with Kristin Chenoweth. It was one of my favorite things about the show last night. I loved that song in the movie. ANd i actually thought it came across as well as it could last night. I loved that they made it a huge production number.
Bruce, you truly complement Kristin when you say it wasn't her best work.

On the docket for today's departmental staff meeting:
A scintillating discussion of:
* Using positive phrases
* Being responsive.
::)
-
On a stage, you mean? ;)
Nope. The closest I've gotten is knowing DR JoseSPiano, who has.
Of course, it goes without saying that "working" on Broadway is a totally different matter. Although, in some cases, I guess that could be considered "performing" too.

I kept thinking of the scene in Thoroughly Modern Millie (the movie) when they're trying to get their beads to hang straight.
;D I found them odd looking.

Those were diamonds (probably imitation, but "jewels" nonetheless), dear.
I didn't know what they were. I doubt many of the other actresses would have looked as stunning in the dress.

Sorry, Jack, it may indeed have been Jane and I, but it's unlikely it was BK--getting BK to dance was, well, pretty close to impossible in those days.
Unless you had the good fortune to have him waltz you across an empty ballroom floor. Yes music was playing, but the orchestra was on break so no one else was dancing. :)

Miss McDonald's a little too grand for windows.
The Fed Ex crew arrived, two young black/hispanic men who were vocal about not being paid enough and rather angry; one threw around several expletives and the other was quiet and seemed rather resentful. I will call Fed Ex later and complain. I don't want 43 cartons arriving in poor shape because they don't like their jobs.

I called Fed Ex and the rep filed a Case ID complaint against them. Interestingly, only 30 of the 43 cartons got scanned, and I'm concerned about that as well. So my new fear? Two fired Fed Ex employees show up and kick my ass.

The least-watched Oscarcast was the one in which "Chicago" was named Best Picture!!! :P
-
Might I just say that it's absolutely gorgeous outside right now?!?!?!
Well, it is. It's soooo gorgeous, that when I went out about an hour ago to put out the garbage, I just decided to go ahead and take a walk. Yes, it's "cool", but the sun is out, there's a light breeze, and just soooo, well... Gorgeous!
:)

I agree.
Oh, absolutely....

The least-watched Oscarcast was the one in which "Chicago" was named Best Picture!!! :P
Is there a soundtrack available for "Chicago"?
-
Not if she's a regular here, she's not.
Or even if she's irregular here.
-
Back from a few errands and must now get ready for this little rehearsal, which I should have said no to. I'll have to go directly from there to Anaheim because I WILL be on the freeway by four sharp. I'll be at Panera first and shall post from there.
-
Oh, absolutely....
Are you reticent too?
-
S. Woody and der Brucer, I have to do exactly what you describe - go from the TV room to the kitchen (where my computer is) to post. I like it - good workout.

I did have a long conversation with our Cason last night - we'll see what happens from here. Miss Karen never responded to what I thought was a very nice e-mail.

YES! (http://www.amazon.com/Chicago-Various-Artists/dp/B00006RIO7/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1203972589&sr=1-2)

Miss Karen never responded to what I thought was a very nice e-mail.
It sounds like she's busy with her thesis for school.

Oh, yes, I am reticent.
I have to bitch-slap myself sometimes just to get over it.

I am fascinated when we have the same number of GUESTS as USERS. It's been happening frequently. Welcome nine GUESTS and nine USERS.
Possibly these guests are actually doppelgangers of the Users.
Or stalkers.

-
Simply gorgeous here, too. No jacket needed today going to lunch. Just a perfect spring day, and it isn't spring yet.
-
Why am I suddenly thinking of Tristan und Isolde? ;D
Tristan gave his soul to Isolde in song
I blush
Oh, dear, but the song was six hours long
I blush
What they did was wrong without a doubt
If it took so long to sing about
But the thought can make my lily cheek to flush
I blush
Oh, dear, how they yodeled of love and death
I blush
They died not from love but from lack of breath
I blush
That it was a pleasant way to die it is useless to pretend
I blush, but oh dear, what a lovely end!
-
I listened to the audio commentary to DAN IN REAL LIFE when I got in from lunch. Very chatty writer-director who's very enthusiastic about his movie and shows it. Lively track that I enjoyed a bit more than the actual film. If only there had been more originality to it. It's warm and sweet but completely predictable.
-
Why am I suddenly thinking of Tristan und Isolde? ;D
Because you picture DR swingplow with long flowing tresses and a coloratura voice?
-
When I finished with the commentary, I opened a box of just arrived HD-DVDs which I bought on 59% off sale at DDD. One of them was THE STING, so I had to watch that this afternoon.
THE STING has always looked kind of rough on video. Grainy in some parts and a little washed out in others. The HD-DVD can't do much with the softer, grainier scenes, but 80% of it is by far the best it's ever looked on home video.
-
I started watching the "making of" documentary (even though I had watched it before with the last STING DVD edition that Universal released), and got about halfway through it. Glad they got some interviews with folks like Ray Walston before they passed away.
-
It's warm and sweet but completely predictable.
That's far better that the "bland and mundane but completely predictable" I've been ducking lately.
-
ENCHANTED did not arrive today, so this evening I'll be watching NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. It's 122 minutes, so I should be finished with it before THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICALES begins.
-
Because you picture DR swingplow with long flowing tresses and a coloratura voice?
I think the Wagner opera would be better if Isolde were a coloratura soprano rather than a hog caller.
-
That's far better that the "bland and mundane but completely predictable" I've been ducking lately.
I agree which is why I gave it a slightly above average score.
-
:) ;) ;D :) ;) :D ;D
Oh, golly. Did I just GET that?
;D :D ;) :) ;D :D ;) :) :-* :-* :-* :) ;) :D ;D :) ;) :D ;D

That's what it is...it's the hog collar that reminds JMK of DR singdaw!

Quote from: Cillaliz on Yesterday at 10:10:57pm
I did like In the Valley of Elah. I am surprised I hadn't heard anything about that film other than Tommy Lee Jones was nominated for it
Quote from BK: Do you read the notes? I talked at length about this film last week. And I most certainly did not love No Country For Old Men and I really didn't love There Will Be Blood.
Most of the time I do read the notes. Sometimes, when I get behind I skip them and I don't always read the details about the movies so the movies will be a surprise to me when I decide to watch them. That's the same reason I don't normally read reviews.
I guess what I was really referring to is that I hadn't seen previews etc about the movie.
-
How RUDE....I just got DUMPED out of HHW.com with a "too many connections" notice. And there's only five of us online!
-
Make that 7 of us.
-
And now we are 8!
-
JMK - I remember the fortune teller show. That was creepy Don't remember if it was twilight zone or not
-
The first Hitchcock I remember is The Birds. It scared me for....as long as I can remember. Especially when I was in my young teens and the birds would dive at me as I rode by bike around the lake
-
When I was little, we watched "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" religiously on TV, so I was well aware of Mr.
We used to watch that religiously as well. I grew up when there was no concern about shows scaring the kids. We lived at the end of a long driveway in the woods. I had nightmares about In Cold Blood for years (not TOD, but creeped me out nonetheless)
-
The first Hitchcock I remember is The Birds. It scared me for....as long as I can remember. Especially when I was in my young teens and the birds would dive at me as I rode by bike around the lake
You've just reminded me of something eerie that I experienced in Port Deposit, Maryland, in the fall of 1970.
I was attending Radioman school at Naval Training Center Bainbridge, Md., a WWII-era Navy installation that was, at the time, where females went to Navy boot camp, plus the site of a few training schools.
The barracks were old, roach-infested and any student who could find a room off base was paid an allowance to do so. I rented a room for $10 a week from a lady with a nice little house on a hill. Her yard was huge.
One Saturday afternoon -- brisk and clear, as I recall -- I went out to my car (I was probably going to drive to Baltimore to see a movie) and suddenly FROZE where I stood. THOUSANDS of birds had descended upon the surrounding grounds. There was a lot of chirping going on as they pecked at the ground. I had never been so close to so many birds in my life. I probably held my breath a little longer than I should. A shadow swooped over me and I looked up. I saw what looked like thousands more birds in a migratory flight.
I calmed myself, got in my car, and went on my way.

My sister got scared watching "Lost in Space," so there were no scary shows at our house!

Susie Orman, financial planning guru, has come out.
That's really old news. I thought she came out a year or two ago
-
Have some writing to do but I'll be back on-line in about thirty minutes.
-
My sister got scared watching "Lost in Space," so there were no scary shows at our house!
Oh everything scared me, but I must have enjoyed it a little. The monkeys in The Wizard of Oz scared me more than any Hitchcock. Although, for years i checked thre shower whenever I was in a motel room and pushed a chair under the doorknob when I took a shower
-
This isn't the one I'm thinking of, but here's a fortune teller/twilight zone
1950's Swami Fortune Teller. Who could forget the Twilight Zone episode 'Nick Of Time' where a young actor, William Shatner, has his life controlled by a fortune telling diner napkin holder. This is a original Swami which the episode was based on. Fortune telling napkin holders were ubiquitous at diner's in the 1950's and have all but disappeared now. One insert's a penny and asks the Swami a yes or no question. The lever on the right is pressed down and a fortune slip is dispensed from the front. The slip answers the question as well as providing a more detailed fortune and even some 'lucky numbers' for the patron to use.
-
Excuse me; I have to go brush my long golden tresses 100 times...
-
And now we are 8!
And I am James James Morrison Morrison Weatherbee George Dupree.
-
My sister got scared watching "Lost in Space," so there were no scary shows at our house!
She must have been awfully young to have somethng as silly as "Lost in Space" scare her. I used to watch "Alfred Hithcock" and "Twilight Zone" every week night during the summer. Or so it seemed. Certainly more than once a week.
"The Monkey's Paw' was one of the scariest.....
-
And I am James James Morrison Morrison Weatherbee George Dupree.
And here I thought you were Darryl, Larry and Larry!
-
Well, I'm off to meet some friends for dinner, and then we're heading to Splash for Musical Mondays! -I haven't gone in months, and probably will not stay long tonight, but I'm still looking forward to my most likely brief appearance. ;)

Just popped back in to read the most recent posts. I'm heading down now to start up the home theater again, this time to see 2007's Best Picture (at least according to Oscar). We'll see.

my most likely brief appearance.
There he goes with the briefs again.
I'm starting to sense a theme...

TOTD:
Spellbound and Vertigo are my favourite Hitchcock movies.
I think Vertigo would have been the first Hitchcock movie I saw. We did watch Alfred Hitchcock Presents. I did not really care for "The Birds" or "Marnie". "Frenzie" was a let down.
-
I received another copy of "Sweeney Todd" DVD in the mail today. These discs get around! The quality is excellent!
-
So you don't know the Milne "Now We Are Eight?"
I do now.
-
I'm about to deliver another "funeral disc" this morning. The request was "Jeannie With The Light Brown Hair". I'm always interested to hear the stories behind the choices made. My favourite is still "It's Hard To Be Humble".
-
So how many emails have you sent them already?

Two. And I am ready to be touched!

Between doctors bills and costs, I'm trying to figure out just how much longer I can remain unemployed! The job thing isn't panning out and just gets harder to even pursue as another week goes by........

One for him,

Two for him,
And One-Two for you.
Three for him,
And One-Two-Three for you.

Two. And I am ready to be touched!
Yes, but are you ready to be "tootled vigorously"?
(In Japanese-English translations, I have often encountered "tootle vigorously your horn" in order to alert other cars or pedestrians that you are approaching).

Hi, DR Edisaurus - guess what I just ordered on DVD? :)

No....a finger wave.

I see this is one of those days at HHW where I'm going to have to return frequently to defend my honor.
Oh, wait a minute...
Never mind.

What a swell bunch o'fellas are here right now! :)

I hear this guy will work for food:
And he'll be in Portland in just a couple of weeks. Cool!
:'( I can't go! :'(
I bought my ticket back in October...OCTOBER, do you hear? And what do I do?? Agree to be in a show that opens TWO DAYS after this MONUMENTAL EVENT, which means that I WON'T GET TO EXPERIENCE IN PERSON THAT WHICH IS SONDHEIM!! :'(
Anyone want my ticket? :-\

Two. And I am ready to be touched!
For far too long.

Topic of the Day: The earliest Hitchcock film that I can remember watching part of is "Family Plot." I didn't see the whole thing (it was on TV) and I don't remember anything about the movie, though. ::) Otherwise, the other earliest movie that I remember watching and actually remember is "Psycho."

I see this is one of those days at HHW where I'm going to have to return frequently to defend my honor.

With all the money you have invested in that ass, tell them to be careful :)

My boss has three men coming in today to interview for two positions.

I had 1/2 a snow day today. I brought work home, but you know....it's a snow day. I have been taking the calls that have come in, just haven't done much else.

Gosh.....It's GOOD to be Queen, huh!
;D
-
Tomorrow is an office day, so I'll catch up then.
-
Is it really a "snow day" when you're your own boss and can take a half-day off whenever you want? :)
-
Gosh.....It's GOOD to be Queen, huh!
;D
Yes it is! I went in early, resolved 2 hearings had an appointment and was home by 12:30 PM
-
We had rain that turned to snow and then the temps dropped so it's really slick out there. I'd rather be at home until the streets are taken care of. Lots of car accidents today
-
I made a roast beef and rice this afternoon. Think I'll go have some. Yummy! The other nice part of a snow day...I cook a real meal for myself. Just wish I wasn't out of ice cream
-
Is it really a "snow day" when you're your own boss and can take a half-day off whenever you want? :)
Sure it is...I said "It's a snow day and I'm going home" as opposed to "Think I'll take the afternoon off" ;D
-
Oh, and it was snowing

No....we take turns walking past the conference room to see how things are going.

Fed ex vibes for DR elmore. I’m sorry you aren’t as lucky as I am and have the best Fed Ex guy, our DR MBarnum’s brother.

Bruce, maybe Miss Karen hasn’t read your nice email yet. I agree with Singdaw that she is likely busy with her thesis for school.
Not everyone checks their email everyday. :o

My sister got scared watching "Lost in Space," so there were no scary shows at our house!
Considering the quality of the Lost in Space scripts, and the acting to go with them, everyone was scared by that show!
Doctor Who fandom refers to these as the "hide behind the sofa" moments.
-
Der Brucer has started watching A Raisin in the Sun.
I've got meatballs to cook, with tomato sauce and pasta.
It it cheating that I didn't make the pasta myself? ;)
-
Sitting in Panera after a horrendous drive out here. What took a little under forty minutes in pouring rain yesterday, took a little over an hour today. And the traffic was so STUPID. You'd be at a total standstill then suddenly you'd be going seventy miles an hour, then thirty seconds later you'd be at a total standstill - has anyone figured out a scientific reason for such things?
-
I'm having a club sandwich and a pickle spear and a small Caesar salad.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
So, just to be sure before I write a little missive - there have been at least one example of "too many connections" every day for the past five days, including our thirty minute time out?
-
When does daylight saving time begin? Or end? Or whatever it is doing in the spring.
-
I have it beginning on March 9th which is the second Sunday in March.
-
Well, I shall now be on my way to the Chance Theater for evening one of auditions. Pray for Rosemary's Baby, baby.
-
So, just to be sure before I write a little missive - there have been at least one example of "too many connections" every day for the past five days, including our thirty minute time out?
It was closer to an hour, in the end...that would have been Thu or Fri, I think.
-
You know, when I logged on and made my first post, we were at around post number 392. Here we are, forty-five minutes later and we STILL haven't gotten to post 400. I shall sit and scratch my head whilst making a nice list of who wiill be bitch-slapped from here to eternity and hell and back.

***CASTING VIBES***
-
Thanks, Jane.
-
Daylight Savings Time continues through November 1, ending at 2am on November 2nd, 2008
-
DR RonP, I think they said the sleeves on Helen Mirren's dress were Swarovski crystals.
-
I hope I am not on the bitch-slap list. I've been busy the last couple of days.
-
Both Access Hollywood and Entertainment Tonight had Katherine Hiegel's red over the shoulder dress as the #1 Oscar dress.
Cojo on ET had his usual favs: #5 cameron diaz, #4 renee Z, #3 jessica alba, #2 hillary swank.
The only one i agreed with was jessica alba. ANd the #1.
The bests of Access Hollywood were: cate blanchett, nicole kidman, renee z, keri russell (which i liked), marion c's mermaid.
And the worst was:
helen mirren for the sleeves, julie christie for the pink gloves and the supporting actress winner for her garbage bag look.
Cojo had jennifer hudson's as the worst.
-
CASTING VIBES to BK.
-
I hope the auditions go well.
-
I couldn't get onto the net at Brewski's tonight, somebody made internet access password-protected! >:(
As for the TOD:
I've had the pleasure of seeing many of Hitchcock's films on the big screen at one time or another, even a few of the early British ones.
I was so excited when there was a major re-issue (I'm thinking in the 80s) of THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH, REAR WINDOW, THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY and VERTIGO, and I got to finally see them on the big screen.
That being said, my favorite Hitchcock films are:
VERTIGO
NORTH BY NORTHWEST
REAR WINDOW
SHADOW OF A DOUBT
MARNIE
PSYCHO
THE BIRDS
THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH
TORN CURTAIN
My least favorite Hitchcock films:
TOPAZ
I CONFESS
THE PARADINE CASE
THE WRONG MAN
-
One of my other all-time favorites (even though it is not as typically Hitchcock) is "Rebecca."
-
When I opened my email tonight, one trade was waiting for me as well as one gift; I now have the demo of GROVER'S CORNERS and BROADWAY UNPLUGGED VOLUME II. ;D
-
DR RonP, I think they said the sleeves on Helen Mirren's dress were Swarovski crystals.
From Wikipedia:
"Swarovski is the luxury brand name for the range of precision-cut lead crystal glass products produced by companies owned by Swarovski AG of Feldmeilen, near Zürich, Switzerland.
Swarovski was also a sponsor for The Phantom of the Opera (2004 film), in which the "standing model" of the chandelier was composed of Swarovski crystals. A Swarovski shop window is also visible later in the film."
To see a few samples of the cyrstals (http://www.jewelrysupply.com/swarovski.html), or go to Swarovski.com

When I was much younger, while THE BIRDS was being shown on NBC-TV, my father snuck up behind me while Jessica Tandy's character found the farmer and poked me in the ribs! That was scary!
-
Both Access Hollywood and Entertainment Tonight had Katherine Hiegel's red over the shoulder dress as the #1 Oscar dress.
It was lovely. I liked the simplicity of the over the shoulder designs. Most I found too busy.

Of course you could rent the Bollywood version of REBECCA, titled KOHRAA.

That's ok, we love ya anyway :D

Re: Raisin in the Sun.
They're on the scene where the white guy is trying to buy out the family, to keep them out of the neighborhood.
I remember back in high school, when during our junior and senior years we were taught English as a series of electives, one quarter per subject. One of the electives was Black Literature, and one of the pieces taught in that elective was Raisin in the Sun. We actually staged some of the scenes in the class. We staged the scene where the white guy tried to buy out the family.
Guess who was cast to read the white guy part.
This was in Burbank, Ca. Where none of my classmates was black. Where there weren't any black people, that I knew of, in the entire city.
And the part scared the willies out of me.
Because I understood it.
I understood what the representative from the white community was trying to say. I understood where he was coming from.
And I loathed what he was saying.
It went totally against what I had learned from my parents, that it was totally necessary to look at every person I met as an individual, no matter how easy it might be to look at the surface, because that was the only way to defeat prejudice.
This, taught by parents who had no one who was prejudiced against them.
I've never really gotten over that disparity, to understand and loathe at the same time.
The scene seems, to me, to have played shorter is this film version than it did when I played/read the part back when.
Good.
-
Why am I suddenly thinking of Tristan und Isolde? ;D
The movie from a acouple of years ago or the movie called Lovespell about Tristan Isolde with Burt lancaster

Casting and audition vibes

First Hitchcock movie for me was THE BIRDS. I saw it listed in the newpaper's tv listings when I was a kid and thought it was a musical. My mom would not allow me to watch it...so of course that made me really want to see it...and I did see it...and it was not a musical! :o
I remember when THE BIRDS was playing the first-run engagement at the Music Box Theatre in downtown Tacoma. The movie alone was scary enough, but one night the audience really got scared. As they were watching THE BIRDS, the theater caught fire. Everyone got out safely, but the theater burned to the ground. It was always my favorite of the downtown theaters.
-
What did people think of Nicole's necklace. I thought it looked like someone had puked diamonds all over her. ;)
I agree with you, Jeff, it was ugly.
-

Did someone yell fire? ;) Seriously, they say never yell "Fire!" in a crowded theater, but what are you supposed to yell when the place is burning?
-
One of my favorite local weathermen (as in meterology not the weather underground) died of a heart attack today. Pretty sad. His wife has mental health issues and he has 2 kids. He was only 55.
-
I enjoyed the link with the gowns. I think most are too much, but a couple looked nice.
-
But nothing looks as grand as a man in a real tux.
-
Of course, it goes without saying that "working" on Broadway is a totally different matter. Although, in some cases, I guess that could be considered "performing" too.
Well, there is your performing in Cental Park!
-
TOPAZ is a bore, but I think UNDER CAPRICORN beats it by a mile. Hitch was still favoring long, long takes like he used in ROPE, and the story is so uncompelling, it just drudgery to sit through. TOPAZ does have a few moments of real cinematic inspiration (like when the woman is shot by John Vernon and her purple skirt billows around her like blood as she falls; absolutely fabulous shot).
And I have to admit that I've never been partial to REBECCA either. Oh, I know: Best Picture and all that, but it's the other 40s film of his that I don't much care for (along with UNDER CAPRICORN).
And I've said here many times that I really love several of his that most people can't stand: THE PARADINE CASE and STAGE FRIGHT being two and TORN CURTAIN being another.

Susie Orman, financial planning guru, has come out.

Out of where?
-
I forgot to mention that I did speed through AS THE WORLD TURNS today, and Luke and Noah were both on with what appears to be the glimmer of a love triangle developing. I hope and pray they don't go such a predictable route. We'll see.
If they were going to have a love triangle, why not have another GUY? That would be novel for daytime: a GAY love triangle.
-
Tonight I watched the Coen's NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. I found it very compelling, very gripping, superbly directed, and not having read the book it's adapted from, I had no idea where it was going or what would happen. I found the surprises outstanding.
It reminded me quite a bit of BLOOD SIMPLE except they weren't using a lot of fancy camera tricks here now that they've established their credentials in the business.
Bardem was riveting, but I thought everyone handled his role superbly. Funny how certain performances get pegged as award worthy when others in the same film are doing just as good a job but don't get the recognition.
I thought the same thing about Amy Madigan in GONE BABY GONE. Amy Ryan is wonderful, but I found Amy Madigan no less compelling. Another example that springs to mind: Michael Caine in THE CIDER HOUSE RULES. I found his performance much less effective than Delroy Lindo's in the film, but Caine got all the praise.
-
There were only three bonus features on the NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN Blu-ray disc, barely 45 minutes of bonuses, so I watched them all. OK but nothing spectacular. Everything was pretty perfunctory.
The Blu-ray disc quality was as usual most impressive. Picture stronger than sound on this one.
-
THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES had a pretty talky episode but it was fine, moved the saga forward just a bit.
Bruce Davison was the guest star.
-
And I loved MEDIUM as usual.
spoiler
The opening had me in stitches. I did guess the identity of the real killer. There was something so hard about that actress. And I wonder since she seemingly got away with it (for now), if we'll see more about this in a later episode.
-
Tomorrow I'll watch THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE while I cook and eat lunch.
-

Interesting... I wasn't surprised at anything. Well except the last couple lines of the movie. Maybe I've just known too many drug runners and psychopaths...occupational hazard.

I'm sure part of it would indeed involve one's familiarity with the personalities involved. I thought the capturing of the beginnings of the drug war mentality most involving. I'm sorry you didn't.
-
Now I've got to write for awhile and then head downstairs to bed.
Good night.

Oh, don't be sorry. I'm glad you like the movie. There aren't too many criminal movies that capture my imagination that way, occupational hazard. ;)
-
Got seven returns done today. (Of course, a few of them were very small returns, but still... )
-
TD, can't you reach your friend, or didn't he have it?
He wasn't around tonight, as a matter of fact, none of the family was. I'll ask about that password tomorrow; I just thought it was funny in a weird sort of way.
-
I've yet to see UNDER CAPRICORN, DR Matt. I'm tempted to say that it will be a while before I do.
I've tried, many times, to watch TOPAZ, but nothing compels me to watch it.
I'd forgotten that you, too, are a TORN CURTAIN person.
I think we will have to agree to disagree on REBECCA, though.
Tonight I completed my viewing of DHOOM 2, which I hope DR MBarnum has seen. It may just be the next flick I purchase. . .
Its star is Hrithik Roshan, and he displays ample amounts of energy AND flesh. . .

...Or I could end up staying at Splash for just under four hours... :)

Good Evening!
As for dinner.. Stand. I got their Mushroom Burger this time - their regular burger topped with grilled portabello slices and their yummilicious onion marmalade, served with a small cup of their mushroom gravy. I also ordered their "Pickled Egg" appetizer, which was simply a pickled egg, however, it was served with some sort of mustard, which didn't really taste like mustard, but it looked like mustard. In any case, it was good too. OH... And I finally tried one of their Toasted Marshmallow Shakes... DAMN! That's a good shake! It tasted like they had actually toasted some marshmallows, then blenderized them with vanilla ice cream and milk, then topped the whole thing off with whipped cream and two toasted marshmallows. Thankfully(?), their shakes are a bit pricey - $6.00 - but at least that keeps one from ordering second one. ;)

As for Splash... :)
Jason ended up joining me tonight, and we each ran into a couple of friends while we were there too. I had a great time, and it was nice just to stand back and watch everything going on. Of course, the bartenders in speedos weren't bad either. ;D

DR elmore - Alas, no sign of a Venice beach denizen in a gold lamé bathing suit.
-
BK - Lo and behold, but who should I run into tonight at Splash? Well, none other than What If?'s very own Ryan Raftery! He moved to NYC a few months ago, and has started making the acting rounds here. Although, from his "performances" tonight alongside the video presentations, it looks like he's already got a head start. ;)
-
BK - Hoping your auditions went well tonight.
-
And since I can't really keep my eyes open any longer...
Goodnight.

You'd be at a total standstill then suddenly you'd be going seventy miles an hour, then thirty seconds later you'd be at a total standstill - has anyone figured out a scientific reason for such things?
Yes - it is a string instability commonly called the "accordian effect".

Got seven returns done today. (Of course, a few of them were very small returns, but still... )
Five large bottles @$0.05 and two small ones @$0.03?

You mean the same Ryan Raftery (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1838256/) who, in his IMDb biography, has this quote:
Appeared in "What If?" a musical revue which played at the Hudson Theatre in Los Angeles during the summer of 2004. Mel Brooks, an opening night attendee, called Raftery a "true comedic talent."

Back from auditions. The first thing I will say is that I missed JOSE! The pianist was not so hot and the poor singers just sort of had to get through it. He plays Assassins well enough, so maybe he's just not an audition pianist.

I will say the turnout was a bit disappointing, but I'm hoping that tomorrow and Wednesday will yield more and better results. Right now, I think we're in a bit of trouble, especially ensemble-wise. But I think most of the folks Adam is bringing in are only coming to the dance call on Wednesday, so hopefully we'll find the six people who can do the job.

I am calling back about nine people from tonight - but, unless a suprise Donna comes along, I think we've at least found our Donna. A really talented very young girl - terrific energy and voice - we'll see how she reads, but I'm assuming she'll be fine. No General Mills candiates at the moment. A couple of Joyce candidates, no real Yoni candidates yet, although a couple of people from tonight will be reading for it, I think we saw one person who'll read for the narrator/Professor Leder.

But the rather shocking news that came my way this evening was from Mr. Murphy, who will not be coming out to audition and will not be part of this incarnation of the show. We had a long chat about it last night, but he feels he has too much on his plate to commit to the schedule and while I think he's making a mistake, that decision is, of course, his to make. So, we're now actively looking for someone for his role - I have a couple of ideas and we're seeing if the people are available.

I think we saw one potential Rod this evening. So, I'm keeping my spirit positive for the next two nights. I do know I'll be seeing some of the Assassins actors, and I know they're good.
