Well, you've read the notes, the notes were only a little uppity, and now it is time for you to post until the uppity cows come home, although the uppity cows don't hold a candle to Mr. Uppity.

Good morning, all! I have two doctors' appointments this morning with a dermatologist and my ophthalmalogist, both at the HIP facility on 22nd Street and 5th Avenue. I hope it goes smoothly. I slept well until 4am, when the new tenant arrived home, created much noise for a couple of hours and disturbed my sleep pattern.

BK, perhaps this Mr Uppity dislikes you as much as you dislike him and snubs you because he prefers not to deal with you? That's why the lady is a tramp.

When I read Sam's  posts from last night I suddenly had Marlene Dietrich's voice in my head singing

Falling in love again
Never wanted to
What am I to do?
Can't help it

Love's always been my game
Play it as I may
I was born that way
Can't help it

Men flock around me
Like moths around a flame
And if their wings burn
I know I'm not to blame

Falling in love again
Never wanted to
What am I to do?
Can't help it

It looks as if my friend Chase Brock, Rob Berman's partner, may be the new SPIDERMAN choreographer. Chase has been a huge defendent of the show from Day One.

They're predicting snow tomorrow, which seems to be shocking folk. I remember in 1984 or 1985 a huge blizzard early in April. I had a meeting scheduled at the Liederkranz Club on 5th Avenue and it took forever to get there, between the slow traffic and the walk through gigantic drifts of snow. When I got to the Club, I found it closed and the meeting cancelled. I was not amused.

So...

After a CAT scan(!), the docs at the ER determined that my friend was dealing with an acute asthma attack that had been lasting more than 24 hours. So, the put him on a nebulizer for a bit, and he left the ER around 6:30 this morning.

I read his email at 7:30 this morning.

And now at around 8:30, I shall start making my way over to Carroll Studios for an orchestra rehearsal.

And around 10:00 I shall be sight-reading some apparently pretty thorny orchestral piano part to a piece of music that was written within the last two years.

Fun? Fun!  ::)

No my printer has a photocopier. I will put all of them on one paper. Right now I have 7. I will always do it this way.

Even though it's a waste of paper at least it will prove that i'm not lying.

RE: the whole library thing from yesterday.

It's sort of amazing with a paper system that they don't lose most of the slips. I guess they think they have a system where they go from the front desk to the reference librarian. But it's stupid. THe rest of the system is not computerized. I even spoke to the guy in charge in September and he said they were going to get the requests computerized. But that was 6 months ago.
Title: Re: MR. UPPITY
Post by: Jennifer on March 22, 2011, 06:40:40 AM
DR George re: your question from last night.

The library system is computerized, except for requests for new books.  For books that are in the system already I am fine as I can do that from home.

The reason my holds are being dropped is because they keep losing my slips of paper.  I suspect that it happens to others as well but they are too shy to say anything. And they are probably not sure that they actually made the request. So they probably just put themselves at the end of the line.

Title: Re: MR. UPPITY
Post by: Jennifer on March 22, 2011, 06:42:06 AM
Also, DR George, here the books only go in the system when the library actually gets them. I know some libraries have their books in the system as soon as they are ordered.

If the books went into the system as soon as they were ordered I would be able to see if there was a problem in advance. As it is now I can only see there is a problem once the books have already gone out to people.

Last night DR Vixmom wrote:

I suspect the reason it keeps happening to you is that you request them so far in advance of the book being available  6 months is a long time to keep track of a little piece of paper in a busy library

Yep that is true. Although it goes into the same file, so really it shouldn't make a difference if it is there for 1 month or 6 months.

You'd think that the mean lady would realize how stupid the system is and blame her system instead of blaming me. I don't think it's odd either that they lose so many slips (all things considered).

Last night DR Jose wrote:

DR Jennifer - Something tells me that you're not the only person who's reservation slips get lost. You just happen to be the only one at the library at the times that you are there who has to deal with a lost slip. In any case...

I would still report the reference librarian. Someone there should know just how non-service-oriented she is. -Although, I highly suspect, that they already do.

Well the lady should be informed of all lost slips ... so I actually don't think people are reporting them. I really think i'm the only one who is saying anything.

And I don't think that anyone knows that this lady is not being nice. She can be nice and last week when I was there she went crazy helping someone else. And she was actually fairly nice to me last week also. It seems to be that she is only mean when she gets defensive because I go to her about a problem.

I'm back from various and sundried errands and whatnot, some banking, lunch at Islands (yummilicious), picking up a couple of packages, and am now just about through listening to the redone Carnival tracks - he's fixed most of the sibilance problems - some are still there but much less problematic for me.  So, I'll approve and off it will go.

The library system is computerized, except for requests for new books.  For books that are in the system already I am fine as I can do that from home.

The 100 slips you have submitted were all for new books?  :o  Wow.  No wonder the librarian doesn't like you, you are work for her. ;)

It has been a long, long time since I've requested a new book from the library.  I used to do it rather often and the librarians were always nice about it and encouraged it.  Fortunately I never had a problem.

I have returned from 22nd Street. I cannot see well since my eyes are dilated from the eyedrops and I am not happy with the brightness of the day. Everything visually is fine and I got a clean bill of health from my body check from the dermatologist for lesions, melanomas, etc.

Good news on your check-up.  Didn't the eye doctor give you dark sun-glasses to wear home?

BK, perhaps this Mr Uppity dislikes you as much as you dislike him and snubs you because he prefers not to deal with you? That's why the lady is a tramp.

I'm sure that's entirely possible, although why would be a question, since I've never done anything to the fellow other than speak to him a couple of times.
[/quote]

Not liking a person is still not a reason to snub them in public.  I find it difficult to understand why people behave that way, especially when I initially had a good relationship with them.  In that case I have found out later the person was unpleasant to lots of other people & the problem was them not me.

If the books went into the system as soon as they were ordered, there wouldn't be a problem!  We've been doing this for YEARS so things like this don't happen...your library really needs to get with the times.

:)

I agree. Actually our library was only computerized in september. Very behind.  It would be better if books went into the system when they were ordered. But it would be even better if we could request books by computer. It is crazy to have pieces of paper!

Yep I do cause her a lot of work.  But I'm not forcing her to buy all the books that I request. It just happens that they buy 95% of them.

Many of the books I request would be books that they would get anyways (books in series they already have). And many are books that they should have but don't.

THE COURT JESTER - I love all the songs in the film, but my favorites are NEVER OUT FOX THE FOX and I'LL TAKE YOU DREAMING.  I remember there was this really talented singer who sang I'LL TAKE YOU DREAMING on one of his CDs.  It was enough to make you swoon.  I wonder what happened to that singer?

WHITE CHRISTMAS

I could almost include HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSON except I hate the way he treats his apprentice and I REALLY HATE when the dancer and her boyfriend lock Hans in the closet so he doesn't get to see her dance his fairy tale.  I always hated that part of the movie.

Quote
Apparently starting last Friday (the 18th) FB started using our photos and posts to run on the right side of our wall and friends walls. I read how to change the settings to NOT allow them to do this.... You might want to do the same. Every time I go to a mutual friends wall...you are there on the right.

She neglected to tell me how to fix it and since she has been rather ill I don't want to ask her.  Does anyone know?  I couldn't find anything online.

Goodbye for now, again
Goodbye until whenever then

And as previously mentioned the Broadway production of Chicago will become the 5th longest running show on Friday. But then it needs to only 178 performance more to surpace A Chorus Line which was victorious over the original produciton of Chicago. Oh how things turn.

That is roughly 22 and a half weeks of additional performances to accomplish this,

Whew!  You can't buy a can of paint off the shelf anymore - you give the man - if you can find him - your color chip and he will mix it for you.

NOW - I know this is NOT NEWS to the educated hoi polloi here at HHW.....but I haven't bought paint since the 20th Century, so I really didn't know that.

Actually you can take in anything and they can match the color.  I haven't done that yet, but it's pretty cool

I've been doing it for years.  It is cool.

I had a friend say in an off handed way "why don't you stop by Tuesday after work for a martini".   Ok, I thought it was kind of....well it's Tuesday.  Later I found out it was her birthday so, I went over for martinis.  It was fun and I was glad to be there for her birthday.

Le Miz
Saving Aimee
Cinderella
First Date
Oklahoma
Damn Yankees
Rent

Glad to see Kathee Lee Gifford is still working on "Saving Aimee." Sounded like a good premise for a musical. I hope she and her associates can pull it off.

Two cannibals south of Perdue
eating a very nice stew
that was made from a clown,
asked as they wolfed it down
"Does this taste funny to you?"

It wasn't just me, it was a party, but she didn't really tell anyone it was her birthday or that it was a party.   She's like that.

Hmmm weather spotter training is April 21.   I've done that in the past, but not here.  Might be kind of fun to go again.  I don't really want to be an official spotter because I don't really like being out in a tornado or severe storm, but it's nice to know what I'm looking at if I'm out in bad weather

We had rain and thunder tonight. There was a tornado about an hour south of here, but I don't think it did much damage.

Danny Kaye is one of those cinematic gaps in my education.  I've seen a handful of his movies: Court Jester; Hands Christian Anderson; a couple of others maybe, but...with the exception of White Christmas...I've only seen them once.  I enjoy Kaye when I see him and have nothing against him (although he can be a little manic onscreen), I've just not be driven to see all his stuff.  I always like the Russian Composer song he did, from LADY IN THE DARK originally, I think.

No :(   I called the main headquarters again today. Turns out it's a guy and his wife who own the chain of theaters.  This time I talked to the husband.  I explained she was going to send it on Friday.  He said well she probably mailed it Monday you'll get it tomorrow. I told him she said she was mailing it Friday and I'd get it on Saturday and this was Tuesday.   I explained that I've had a lot of trouble getting the pass and that I thought it was probably the newspaper's fault.

Then I told him that it was such a fabulous prize and  I love his theater and go there all the time, but I'm not going to go and pay when I have a pass.   He asked if the manager knew I was the winner...I said  "oh, he knows".   He laughed and said he'll follow up for me.

So, I'm hoping I get it tomorrow

If this doesn't work and I don't have the passes in the next two days I'm going to start posting on their facebook page that I won the contest for the oscars and still haven't seen my prize.  I'll play nice, but if it doesn't work, then I'm going public
