We wore them for a photo with my sister Paula - my Mom wouldn't let us wear our caps for the photo.

Thanks for all the vibes of yesterday. I didn't have internet at Greg's mom's but was able to take a lot of editing work with me. I hadn't ever taken care of her on my own; Greg's day always does that, but boy, now I even have more respect for him being able to do that at 85!

But I felt very lucky that I was able to remember all the different doses of things and when they're administered, handling bathroom journeys and maneuvering her into her chair or bed. Took a few attempts to get things right but she was a good sport about it. And she ate all my cooking!

I think we're going to need to reinstate some in-home care because they live about an hour away from everyone. And I think their house really needs to be made more "old-friendly" and widen some doorways and add some handles here and there.

Today my DF-I-L is having a procedure where they're going to zap the heart with electricity; maybe that's like rebooting your computer. Continued vibes much appreciated.

It is obviously a beloved musical because if you watch the live clips on YOU TUBE from the productions everyone in the audience is singing along and having a great time! The songs are catchy and it IS funny.

The slapping clip is from the 1952 movie, which I may try to find.....but I am still going to wear my hat on the side of my head someday. It is very classy.

The most disgusting thing I've seen in this regard is one of our own Atlanta companies, Home Depot, who dumped their CEO, Robert Nardelli, after he ran the company into the ground and walked away with a $210 million severance deal. This, on top of his $120 million he "earned" for the 6 years he was there. Is it any wonder the employees have an attitude problem and it's rare to find a knowledable employee to help you find something in the store? The greed of these CEOs is disgusting.

Thanks DR LAURA. This is the one I meant.....I guess we crowded my sister out.

A man used to come to the door once or twice a year with all of his equipment and ask if we wanted pictures, and my mom usually said yes....we had five minutes to get spiffed up while he set up his camera, lights, and background. It was fun! ;D

Post by: Edisaurus on March 12, 2010, 05:21:57 AM: I generally like Michael Moore's films. Sometimes he goes a little too far for my tastes (the scene with Charlton Heston in BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE comes to mind) but I generally agree with his viewpoint and I think his films are well-crafted.

However, it bugs me when people who know I make documentaries want to lump him in with all documentarians and then deride all doc makers in general based on what MM does. I don't consider his films documentaries as much as editorials. What you get when you see one of his films is his opinion on a certain subject. Most good documentaries do have a point of view, but a more objective one.

I didn't see SICKO, and I may not see his new film immediately but maybe at some point. I know I'll generally get depressed or angry, so I have to wait to be "in the mood".

I did love his TV show; they pulled some brilliant stunts, even in my home town of Marietta!

And I met him at Sundance when we won an award there. He was very nice. This was in '91 when cell phones were starting to get popular. We were standing outside the theatre and he was watching two guys comparing phones and said "I bet that's the only time you hear two guys brag about how small theirs is." LOL!

Since I don't spend much time alone in my car anymore and this is NOT something Richard would like, I'll have to listen with headphones here at home while doing needlework. In his car, we're listening to Hemingway's A Farewell to Arms and we're quite surprised at the sappy romantic dialogue.

DVD - Barbie Nation: An Authorized Tour. This was recommended last month by the speaker I heard on young adult literature. We're going to preview it and then I'm going to invite my girlfriends over for a Barbie party.

I had actually read it three-quarters of the way through when it first came out but put it down because I was getting pissed at the lead character. But I started it again this morning, determined to go all the way through this time. I forgot how funny it was and I'm kind of shocked that it has yet to be made into a movie.

They'll be shown in the early Saturday morning hours.

So, once I finish my work project this afternoon, I actually have the entire evening free since my shows won't be broadcast until long after I'm asleep.

I plan to give the evening over to BENJAMIN BUTTON. Once I've seen it, it'll be the last of 2008's Oscar-nominated movies that I'll have caught up to.

A very strange thing happened yesterday. My friend Bruce went in for his surgery. He had prepared by having his hair cut to somewhere being a buzz cut and total shaving. He was prepped for surgery, had the IV in and was all ready when the doctor came in, saw his head and postponed the operation. It seems the lack of hair would make Bruce more vulnerable to infection, so he won't be operated on now until April 15. Go figure. His wife just packed him in the car and drove him home.

I gave up on Grisham because I kept getting too pissed at his main characters. I remember flinging the book across the room because of how horrible the ending was. Glad they changed it for the movie, which I hated because of Tom Cruise, but that's another story ...

The lying down idea was good for about 2 minutes. I feel very lucky to have a mom who, at 80, is still so active. More active than me, sometimes!

Good morning, all!

DR edisaurus, I have asked to get him to put down carpet and purchase a sturdier bed, but the ass has done nothing. I'm getting a bit pissed by his failure to do anything about the problem.

I slept late this morning, and I see it's raining outside. My visit to the doctor was a good one yesterday. I have a new prescription to pick up today and a trip to the NYPL. There's also a WIZARD OF OZ score from 1902 sitting on my desk yelling for some edits, so I have a full day.

Costco is a big box store to us.

A new big box store opened nearby called "The Dump". (Not to be confused with what Margaret Mitchell called her house.) I haven't read anything good about it!

Brasil '66 appeared at Expo 70 (there's a live recording available that was never released in the US, due to some pretty lackluster vocals by Karen Philipp--I've joked for years she had too much saki the night before). Sergio and his collaborator Oscar Castro-Neves also produced a slew of albums by Japanese singers doing Brasilian material. And Lisa Ono is one of the biggest Japanese stars who currently does a lot of Brasilian stuff.

Cheyenne was out Friday night, Saturday matinee and evening (plane problems), and in for the Sunday closing. My memory is that he and Michael Feinstein had their show in Palm Springs and that Cheyenne left after Thursday's performance and was supposed to be back in for Saturday night but weather in the midwest held the plane up on Saturday. I still miss the show and crew.

I'm having a Twitter-enabled(?) Friday evening. I won tickets from @carnegiehall to tonight's concert by the Kronos Quartet (http://www.carnegiehall.org/article/box_office/events/evt_13019.html?selecteddate=03122010).

Then after the concert, courtesy of @eat_landmarc, I will be attending Chef Marc Murphy's "Fête de Campagne (http://www.showclix.com/event/8406).

-Needless to say, I will be sleeping in tomorrow.

DR edisaurus - "The Dump" ("...To the Dump, to the dump, to the Dump, Dump, Dump") is a spin-off of a larger furniture store chain (who's name I can't remember right now). It's basically where they "dump" their out-of-season and never-sold-in-the-store furniture. It's sort of like a Sym's for furniture. Sometimes you can find a deal there. Sometimes you can find some really ugly furniture there. Or both. ;)

Additionally, they are only open three days a week, Friday-Sunday.

As for the winner, I did like the outfit, but the one who finished third really had something special, I thought (though I wasn't crazy about it from the back; it looked a little too busy and cumbersome).

I was disappointed that enough clues weren't provided to guess the killer's identity, but it was still an entertaining episode with Simon's notable "reading" of people and his climactic trick to smoke out the killer. I figured out the trick in a way very early (they made a big deal about showing us the empty canisters), but it was still fun seeing Patrick operate.

I just hope Fox licenses more of their movies to Criterion since it appears they aren't too interested in putting out many classics on Blu-ray themselves.

I had listened to this commentary track before in the previous DVD set, so it wasn't new, but it just reaffirmed in my mind how much superior the full John Fricke commentary is on the ULTIMATE OZ laserdisc set.

I got the original Broadway cast recordings of Do I Hear a Waltz?, It Ain't Nothin' But The Blues and Jelly's Last Jam (it's autographed by Gregory Hines!!), as well as the recording of the play "Beyond Therapy" by Christopher During, which was produced by BK! None of these are new, but they're all in very good condition. ;D

DR George, I remember seeing it or the CD around places like Barnes & Noble and Tower several years ago. I never knew Rusty Magee, but I love his wife Alison Fraser. I haven't seen her in years. She and Rusty were neighbors on 82nd Street until they had their baby. Then they moved out of the City.

I love "The Fields of Athenry." I arranged it around 20 years ago for Frank Patterson for one of his St Patrick's Day shows at Radio City. I used to get ASCAP royalties for his recording of "America the Beautiful."

The judges were VERY generous to Carolina Kostner placing her #7 after the short. She put her hand down on her triple flip and her spins were embarrassingly corkscrew rather than centered. Of course, she imploded on the long program and fell out of the top 10.
