DR Laura,

You will be thrilled to know I am now spending lots of time working up phone lists and mailing lists for a political race in CA - I could add you to the list if you'd like.

der Brucer

Just think - I get paid $75/hour (a discount rate) to help candidates annoy thousands of people by phone and jamb their mail boxes with letters and flyers.

Elmore, the nice surprise email I got yesterday was from a guy in NYC who told me about attending Finian's closing weekend.  He said Cheyenne was out the day he went, but that the show was fantastic!

Cheyenne was out Friday night, Saturday matinee and evening (plane problems), and in for the Sunday closing. My memory is that he and Michael Feinstein had their show in Palm Springs and that Cheyenne left after Thursday's performance and was supposed to be back in for Saturday night but weather in the midwest held the plane up on Saturday. I still miss the show and crew.

Yes, I remember your relating this story to us near the end of FINIAN'S run. Cheyenne wasn't being a spoiled star; he couldn't get into town due to the weather.

The TV will be free while Woody devours his newly arrived 693 page tome: "Doctor Who: The Writer's Tale"

Note to George - order the book!

Okay...I just did!

When I got in from my errands, I watched last night's PROJECT RUNWAY. I definitely did NOT agree with who got sent home. Not a great outfit, but the next-to-the-bottom was horrific.

As for the winner, I did like the outfit, but the one who finished third really had something special, I thought (though I wasn't crazy about it from the back; it looked a little too busy and cumbersome).

As I ate lunch, I watched last night's THE MENTALIST.

I was disappointed that enough clues weren't provided to guess the killer's identity, but it was still an entertaining episode with Simon's notable "reading" of people and his climactic trick to smoke out the killer. I figured out the trick in a way very early (they made a big deal about showing us the empty canisters), but it was still fun seeing Patrick operate.

Then I started on my work project for the day: BIGGER THAN LIFE, this time on Blu-ray. It's a very good transfer though flesh tones certainly veer very brazenly from hot pink to brown throughout the film.

I just hope Fox licenses more of their movies to Criterion since it appears they aren't too interested in putting out many classics on Blu-ray themselves.

I checked out all of the bonus features. Apart from the Camera Three TV show ( in 1080i), everything else is in full 1080p.

With a nice chunk of the afternoon left, I put in THE WIZARD OF OZ on Blu-ray and watched it but this time with the commentary track playing. I had listened to this commentary track before in the previous DVD set, so it wasn't new, but it just reaffirmed in my mind how much superior the full John Fricke commentary is on the ULTIMATE OZ laserdisc set.

When I go back down, I'll skim through today's ONE LIFE TO LIVE to see if there is anything of interest. I won't get to skim through AS THE WORLD TURNS until Monday morning.

Hello, everyone.

I just got home from the dentist. It's been about ten or eleven years since I had any major dental work done, but I don't recall it being quite so difficult. Last week I just wanted to get under the covers when I got home. I didn't do so, but I sure don't feel up for much! Ugh!

I now have my physical therapist's cell number in case I need to cancel at the last minute & he isn't at the office.  I feel bad he couldn't receive my message until 5 minutes prior to my appointment I wasn't there for.

The snow was coming down heavy & fast.  We didn't want to risk problems getting back up the road & driveway that were completely covered in about 20 minutes time.

There isn't any snow in town & we weren't expecting anything but rain.

I've really been enjoying the new FINIAN. What a lovely recording! OLD DEVIL MOON and NECESSITY alone are worth the price of the CD.

Thank you, Jane. I have a new book and I may just curl up somewhere with it.

Guess I'll hop off-line now and write for a little bit. Then, I'll head down for some Blu-ray watching tonight.

I recently bought one of those "value" packs of 100 old mystery DVDs. Now I can't complain that I'm in the mood to watch a movie, but have nothing here!

Back from lunch meeting - the book design session at four has been pushed to five-thirty, but Grant promises we'll get everything done that we need to.  I'm hoping he's already put the manuscript into the design program and done his initial work - we shall see.

The boys aren't back till the 15th, I believe. They weren't on today.

Yesterday's sleepless night has worn me out. I've been dragging all afternoon. I did finish the OZ edits, but I'm ready for bed.

A little potential disaster averted: Our next title for Kritzerland - one of the tracks didn't make it onto the iDisk so I had no idea of its existence.  Fortunately, the mastering guy caught it - it was easy to figure out, the final cue - so we added it and now we have it right.

BK, do you check your masters with MP3's?  Doesn't the compression bother you?
