Well, you've read the notes, the notes had six bites, and now it is time for you to post until the bitten cows come home.

So anyway - I think today I will live my life in 1:78:1 instead of the standard 1:32:1 - at least at work.....at home I will still be in w i d e s c r e e n.

DR JOSE - yes we are thinking it was the cussing Shinns she was talking about in her letter.....I did say "by god" four times in the show.....Paul Ford says it three times in the movie, which she claimed he NEVER said...but I still think it's because we wouldn't refund money on tickets she bought and wasn't going to use.

AND

The Indiana BRAINEX production that included MR BK, DR CP, and myself at the Buck Creek Players Pole Barn Theatre.

Saturday morning greetings!  It's our 2-wedding day, so I got up early to shower before the rest of the household stirs.  The cousins will be leaving this morning for Georgia - one will be driving his pick-up truck and the other will be driving Jessica's car.  She's on a cruise ship somewhere in the Bahamas this weekend.

There have also been a couple of Midwest Mini HHW gatherings at The World of Wisdom including DR GINNY and FATHER RICHARD and once, DS ROB that were most enjoyable.

DR RODZINSKI has also stopped by the store a couple of times - once with DR TPUNK - which was fun!

As for the Topic of the Day...

All the various NYC HHW Gatherings, especially:
-My first HHW Joe Allen gathering - I believe DRs Kerry, MusicGuy, were in attendance.
-The BIG Walking and Eating and Walking and Eating and Walking and Eating tour.
-The post-Jewish Thighs on Broadway gathering at Angus McIndoe.
-Oh, and, of course, meeting DR MBarnum for the first time on DR elmore's fire escape. ;)

My first Musso & Frank meal with bk and DR MusicGuy - where I also got to meet Nick Redman and his ever-lovin' Julie Kirgo.

Meeting DR JRand when I was with Mamma Mia! in Indianapolis along with DRs Joey, Ginny and her DH Richard.

Watching DR Jane savor(!) her meal at Zaytinya in DC. ;)

Good morning, all! My neighbor above me, who's very very quiet most of the time, had a very noisy arrival home this morning around 6:15 and I spent an hour and a half trying to get back to sleep and fretting over the arrangement I am working on. I am bathed, dressed and ready to tackle the problem section.

Last night I found on my answering machine a phone message from the wonderful Rosemary Ashe, the original London Carlotta in Sir Andrew's PHANTOM OF THE OPERA; she's also the Lucky Lockit in the Roger Daltrey video of THE BEGGAR's OPERA. She is in New York for the next several months or so looking for theatrical and musical work. I look forward to seeing her and introducing her to various friends.

BK, about your bug bites: check very carefully the bottom sheet of your bed for small blood spots. It sounds like bed bugs to me, and you might have brought them in on your luggage. You wouldn't have a great many bites depending on how heavy the infestation. I had very few bites, just a feeling that there were critters in bed with me.

Jose mentioned the vote yesterday. There was only one Democratic vote against the Marriage Equality Bill and that came from the usual suspect, raging Homophobe (but I don't hate gay people even though my grandaughter is a lesbian and she'll burn in hell and I've been divorced (but that was a normal marriage) but I don't hate gay people) Ruben Diaz

It's scheduled to be a warm, muggy day here in the borough of Manhattan.

I really wanted to get down to DC to see Oklahoma but with the dental work and a trip to Michigan in August I don't think it will happen. I will have to wait for the NYC opening.

Yes, it was. We found the DVDs in the Library. A friend in Middlesborough had sent me a Region 2 DVD and we couldn't watch it so we looked in the library and there it was.

I know I'm in the minority here, but we enjoyed it.

Yes, the car chase is a bit long and there are a couple of moments where you briefly question the story's logic, but all in all, its quite entertaining.

This is one of those movies that you either go along with for the ride, or you don't.

And, in this case, the ride was fun.

This whole weekend I am dog sitting Dog Piper. Piper is some sort of terrier doodle mix. He is mostly a sweet dog, but he stinks...and is making my allergies go crazy.

He is also petrified of cat Freddy, who has been nothing but nice to him...once he made sure the dog knew who was the boss.

We took a nice early morning walk, and right now Piper is hiding under the bed.

TOD:

Each and every HHW get-together that I have attended has been great fun...and thinking about it, I guess I have been fortunate to have attended many!

The one in Tacoma last year, when DRs TCB, Ann, BK, and I saw DR George in BRAIN FROM PLANET X was particularly fun.

The New York walking and eating and walking and eating tour was a blast and was chock full of HHW DRs, many of who are no longer here...on HHW that is.

And of course the celebrity laden HHW get-together for the first ever production of THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X was a thrill...and of course there were celebrities galore including Hugh O"Brien, Cindy Williams, Laurie Mitchell, Diana Darrin, Stella Stevens, Kevin Spirtis and many others.

SMITH has some surprisingly lovely music in it (despite the distortion of the tape, which was probably a little handheld cassette in the audience).  It also sounds like it had a surprisingly large orchestra for an off-Bway show, but that's how things used to be done back in the olden days.

I spoke to Ms Ashe; she's in Connecticut for the weekend, and I'll see her on Tuesday afternoon. I'm looking forward to it.

Tonight, the Ohio Light Opera begins their performances of JUBILEE. I'm a bit pissed that I wasn't invited to show up - I can't afford to go around the corner but they could have flown me out - and their inept director certainly hasn't called with any questions. While I'm curious about what they've done with the show, I am more looking forward to this year's Tams-Witmark royalty check!

What a wacko day this has been so far.  I was heading over to the Dale of Glen to meet an alum of Hamilton High who was going to Mystery and Imagination to get the last two Kritzer books, as she'd loved the first one.  I got a call on my cell phone - a friend asking where I was.  And I'd totally forgotten there was a birthday lunch for two of the former theater department heads at LACC at a restaurant on Los Feliz.  Luckily I was just approaching the 5 freeway and I went directly there - the lunch had begun at eleven-thirty so I was forty minutes late, but people had actually just gotten their food, so I ordered a lettuce wedge with light Eyetalian dressing and ate about half of it.  It was nice to see everyone, then I came back to the Valley, picked up an important envelope, and am now just home.  I also stopped at Public Storage and signed the new contract for the much less expensive space.  I think I'm still going to seek out a lawyer specializing in class action lawsuits, because there's just something very wrong about me paying fifty bucks more than I needed to for many years and no one disclosing to me that I was doing so - and I'm very certain I'm not the only one.  Same thing happened with the phone company - I had to ASK why the bills were so high and THEN I was told I was paying double what I should have been.  At least they gave me a couple of free months, but Public Storage was not willing to do anything about the past.

Sad news about Alice Playten. I loved her in "Henry Sweet Henry" and all those old Ben Bagley records she did. I think I'll have to dig up my copy of her singing Cole Porter's "I'm Only a Schoolgirl." She manages to be both innocent and all-knowing at the same time in that one.

MBarnum has evidently shut out memories of his many PDX gatherings, probably because he wasn't quite sure where he was.

;D  I also noticed since I was at four of those.   The first one when we were all delighted to find how relaxed & comfortable we were never having met before.  It was Betsy who was extra relieved after you invited all these "strangers" to your house. ;D

Anthony was also relieved after the very first NY get together we attended. He went with me because he was worried that I was meeting a bunch of strangers from the Internet. We went to Angus McIndoe's on 44th Street and 8th Avenue sometime in 2003. Larry was not yet a part of the group and it was small but it was a beginning.

T.O.D.

If you don't count the dinners and the ice cream meetings with former DRs Jed and Ann, I have had three four five six HHW gateherings.

1.)  The first one was in Portland with BK, Jed, Ann, MBarnum, George, JMK, and Betsy.  This was for a book reading and signing that BK was doing.

2.)  Was George, Jane and her DH Keith when they returned from their cruise.  We had lunch on the waterfront.

3.)  A visit with Tomovoz, Colin, George, Jed and Ann during Tom's last U.S tour.

4.)  A short coffee chat with JMK, Jed, Ann, and me when JMK was in town to do a concert reveiw.

5.) A delightful lunch and afternoon with FJL, Skip, George, and me.

6.)  A dinner and then performance of THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X with George in the cast; and viewed by BK, David Wechter, Ann, MBarnum, and me.

And watching and listening to Sen. Diaz ramble on and on over his allotted two-minute slot... And then watching and listening to him challenge the President of the Senate about the procedural rules - and, in the process, continue to eat into his extra time - which they did grant him... ASS!

I really wanted to get down to DC to see Oklahoma but with the dental work and a trip to Michigan in August I don't think it will happen. I will have to wait for the NYC opening.

I just watched bits and pieces of a documentary called "Guys 'N Divas: Battle of the High School Musicals" on LOGO. From the IMDB:

"A documentary on the intensely competitive world of high school musicals in Southern Indiana, with a focus on three schools that spend tens of thousands of dollars on their productions in order to compete for admission to the International Thespian Festival."

-One school spent $14,000 on a production of an original(!) musical. WOW!

DR Jose I wish I could go to DC.  Will you be visible when you do the show in L.A?

I dunno. -Will I, bk? ;)

You will indeed be VERY visible for the entire show.

Tonight, my wife and I watched THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU.

My son gave be a DVD of that and UNKNOWN for Father's Day.

I guess I have to hang my head in shame again, because I enjoyed that one also...

 :'(

...with the exception of the ending, which I thought was very weak.

 :)

Matt Damon and Emily Blunt are both very likable and they have excellent chemistry.

Jose - Which is the best of the four sides for seeing the show?

Well, the tech table table is set up in West - which is opposite the bandstand, so... West.

And since tomorrow is another rehearsal day for me... -Although, we're not starting until 11:00 tomorrow morning. -Yeah! -And then after rehearsal, a new restaurant by the theatre is hosting a reception for us. The restaurant will be opening officially on Monday, and I guess they just wanted to go through a trial run of sorts. In any case...

I'm gonna walk the dog, and then get ready for bed.

Goodnight.

LOL-I'm thinking of DR Cilla who got into the car with Keith & me to go to the second gathering at DR JMK's.

I was going to say something about that.  You were the first HHW DR I met in person on the way to JMK's house.  I believe it was Jane and Keith, George, JMK and Betsey and me...hope I'm not forgetting anyone.  It was memorable because it was my first HHW get-together and I was very relieved to find I liked everyone just as much in person.  I remember telling DR Jane when they dropped me off that now I knew I wanted to go to New York

The walking and eating and walking and eating in NYC was great.  It was great to meet BK in LA.  Going to The Brain From Planet and Last Starfighter with the gang, walking through Central Park and the walk and walk and walk to Serendipity, the fabulous meals at FJL and Skip's. Dinner with Ben and Ant....gees  I've had a lot of really good times with you guys  :)

Druxy at least might get a kick out of this:  I'm catching up on some reading and cracked open the May/June issue of SCRIPT, the inside cover and first page of which are emblazoned with a two page ad touting their "Big Break" contest.  In a huge font across both pages it states:  CONTEST DEADLINE JUNE 1, 2001.  :)

Okay....

But, why me?

 ???

Because of your writing and screenwriting expertise.  Never mind.   ;D

Today was really great. Larry Smith, the friend with Parkinson's who rode his bike 300 miles across South Dakota finished his ride and I was there at the celebration as he crossed the finish line.   It was such a great day.

I also went shopping tonight.  Since I stupidly threw away my fat clothes when I lost all that weight, I have no summer clothes that fit me.  Well I didn't until tonight. there was a great sale going on so I got a lot of stuff.   I feel much better now

The Goldstein sisters came over to watch the datura flowers open. We also saw one nighthawk head over for the park.

I went to Gavins Point Dam today.  I didn't have my camera. The amount of water is just incredible.  It was perhaps matched only by the line of cars waiting to get close to the spillway on the South Dakota side of the river. I decided not to wait that long, so I drove across the dam and watched from the Nebraska side where there wasn't a line.   It was farther away, but I could see the power of the river just fine from there

Just stumbled across this song from "The Visit." Makes me want to hear the rest of Kander and Ebb's score:

Just spent the last three hours writing the contextual commentary - glad to have it out of the way, but not exactly a fun way to spend a Saturday night.  I'm sure I'll finesse it, but I think it's snappy and has some funny stories.

Saw a local production of [Title of Show] this eve at TheatreWorks (of Silicone Valley) which had 2 cast members from NY, Farah Alvin and Jamison Stern, a local person and another I didn't know.  The first 3/4 of the show is good, but when they added the part about going to Broadway, it sorta lacks.  I love the show for all its references and stuff like that, and the cast did a great job.  They portrayed their characters well.  I sorta thought I wanted to do this show at some point, but I think I don't anymore.  Good to finally see it and get it out of my system.

DD Ben is awesome.

Topic of the Day:

I've been to more HHW gatherings in Portland than anywhere else...three (or would it be four?) with BK.

A mini-gathering with just PennyO and I twice (once, she was part of the reading of a play and the second time was seeing her "Jewish Thighs on Broadway" in North Bend, Washington)

Meeting Fred, Skip and Julie at the reading of The Last Starfighter in Issaquah, Washington

And I think TCB and I had lunch with Fred and Skip, as well.
