Break a leg (but not a follow spot) vibes for George and production.

It rained the entire time Sherlock and I walked.  Now it is snowing.

Now snow here. Just lots of cold. And lots of wind. And lots of cold wind.

Oh... Today's semi-random celebrity sighting...

Emeril Lagasse was at Eataly. We happened to be browsing the "verdure" at the same time. He's apparently cooking some sort of special meal in town tomorrow. He had quite the shopping list with him.

-Frankly, I was sort of surprised he was not choosing to shop at the Union Square Greenmarket (tomorrow morning) or at the Chelsea Market Supermarket which is where a lot of the grocery shopping for the Food Network takes place. ???

Still mysterious......but I am thinking that a lot of trouble came for the boys for not following Jerry Lewis advice that he got from Lou Costello that HE got from Stan Laurel.....I am thinking.

And what was the advice they ignored?

He might be going there, too.

Maybe Eataly is a sponsor of whatever he's doing

Working on his family genealogy tonight Keith made an exciting discovery.  He wishes he could call his mother and tell her she was correct about the names and locations.

tonight I took my Mom to another specialist for a second opinion -- he held out some hope for improvement

afterwards I treated Mom & Dasd to a dinner at Olive Garden

It was really good!

So tiiiiired.  Had a long telephonic conversation about some potential upcoming titles - and have been trying to watch Fantasia - I must say I go through this every time there's a new release of this film - but the plain and simple truth is I just don't like it and I suppose I never will.  I like moments, but it just goes on and on and it's not my cuppa.  So, off it goes.

Regarding FANTASIA:  I'm in agreement.  There are parts which I can watch over and over again ("Night on Bald Mountain," - but not with "Ave Maria"- "Dance of the Hours" and "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" are tops on my list); but the film, exquisite as the animation is, just goes on and on and on and on for nearly two hours.  I could not tell you when the last time I watched FANTASIA in its entirety in one sitting. . .possibly the deluxe CAV LaserDisc Boxed Set. . . .but that had so many side breaks, you couldn't really call it one sitting. . .

I'm fonder of FANTASIA 2000. . .and I could watch "The Pines of Rome" or "The Steadfast Tin Soldier" almost any time.

For the record, the Blu-Rays of FANTASIA/FANTASIA 2000 are beautiful transfers.

Last night I watched the docu on Dali and Disney and "Destino" and was quite impressed and educated.

The final version of "Destino" is everything and more than I hoped it would be.

td, guess I should put the disc back in and watch the Dali extras - that would interest me.  And while I haven't seen all of Fantasia 2000, I did love the Gershwin sequence.  I'll watch that soon.  I tried to watch this piece of dreck called The Last Airbender by M. Night whatever his name is - this guy has lost his marbles, whatever marbles he had.  And worse, it is the softest blu-ray transfer I've ever seen - I don't know if it gets better after the first twenty minutes, but those minutes verge on being completely out of focus.

Time Warner was completely spazzing out and finally went down - it's up now, though.  In fact, if it hadn't been I was about to grab the laptop and go over to Panera to write and post the notes.  Hopefully, we'll remain working and happy, Time Warner-wise.  I might go over to Jerry's and get some chicken soup for dinner.  I had chicken tenders and fries for lunch at Doug Haverty's house.

About an hour ago, Time-Warner tweeted the following:

"#TimeWarnerCable customers in #SoCal.  Engineers are still working to restore Internet service. I regret that I do not have an ETA yet. ^PS"

And it actually looks like their Help Desk is staying open past their usual business hours until the issue is resolved.

There was a cretin on the Film Score Monthly board - one of these odd obsessives that troll boards like that from time to time - this guy's obsession is Lost Horizon - not the Capra, but the Ross Hunter production, the musical.  Now, even people who find it a guilty pleasure know it's terrible.  I always WANT to like it, but it's terrible, mostly thanks to the ham-fisted and ponderous direction of Charles Jarrott - in fact, I have never seen a Charles Jarrott film that I cared for, but maybe the whole problem rested with Mr. Hunter.  Add to that the horrendously bad choreography of Hermes Pan, along with the weirdly performed but somehow somewhat likable songs and you have one of the most critically-reviled box-office disasters ever.

But this guy LOVES IT!  This guy thinks it wasn't a box-office disaster overseas (it was), this guy thinks it got rave reviews (he managed to find four to post, none of which were raves, but were decent, which just goes to show you - one of the decent ones was by Arthur Knight, the man who HATED The First Nudie Musical, so that puts everything into perspective) - and because I dared to disagree (nicely) with him (as did others)?  He began calling me a bitter soundtrack queen.  Then he stated (in response to someone else who hated it) that Mame was a movie for old ladies and homosexuals.  That comment rankled a whole slew of people.  And then he wouldn't stop - homophobic comments hurled in my direction - I don't mind being called gay or whatever people want to call me, but the moderator was warning him and he still couldn't stop - I finally called him a twit and the moderator asked me not to do it, so I stopped.  But he wouldn't and then he called the moderator a queen.  That was that.  He was banned.  I now have his e-mail address, thanks to friends in high places.  Unfortunately, but predictably, it's a hotmail address, otherwise I could have some fun :)

I suspect anyone who has to make those kinds of gay-baiting comments and who LOVES Lost Horizon The Musical, well, I somehow think he's one of those self-loathing people like Harold in Boys In The Band.  That's my guess, and I'm sticking to it.
