ASK BK DAY QUESTION:

Knowing that you are a Naomi Watts fan, I was wondering: have you seen EASTERN PROMISES yet?  And. . .if yes, what did you think of it?

ENCHANTED will be out on Blu-ray in four months or so as well.

Knowing that you are a Naomi Watts fan,

A Log Cabin acquaintance produced one of her less stellar outings "Children of the Corn IV".

Well, you can put me solidly in the positive column regarding Sweeney Todd.  Yes, the blood did look pretty fake, but I was more creeped out by the THUD that the bodies made after being dispatched from the chair.  My biggest fear, especially since we just watched the third pirate movie last week, was that I'd see a lot of Jack Sparrow on the screen.  That didn't happen and I was very pleased with all the other casting, too.  And, OH, that score!

DH Richard and I are off to meet my family at the local Mexican jernt, where I think I'll opt for a vegetarian selection tonight...

A question for BK:

If you were staging Lady in the Dark today, or recording the full score, who would you cast as Liza Elliot?

Meryl Streep.

Jennifer, I would say that icing sugar is confectioners or powdered sugar.

This may be moot by now, but doesn't it also have a tad of corn starch in also?

Back to the notes to see!

Had a wonderfully wonderful visit with the darling daughter, her darling hubs, and her darling pal Skye.  The whole thing was darling, if you ask me.

I had Christmas Eve dinner with an old friend and DR Music Guy   (all the shrimp cocktails and real French Fries you could scarf up---- based on the idea of having the one food you could never get enough of, a lovely way of creating new traditions when everything else has changed).

Last night I had a beautiful dinnner with DRs Laura, Sandra, Don and Jeremy.  One has not lived until playing board games with the Milllers!   Wackiness ensued!!!!

I went flying today, and boy, are my arms tired!

POLICE: SAN FRANCISCO TIGER ATTACK MAY HAVE BEEN PROVOKEDDoesn't take long to blame the victim, does it!

der Brucer
Where's that tiger?  Where's that tiger?
Where's that tiger?  Where's that tiger?
Hold that tiger!  Hold that tiger!  Hold that tiger!
Choke him, poke him, kick him and soak him!
Where's that tiger?  Where's that tiger?
Where oh where can he be?
Low or highbrow, they all cry now
"Please play that Tiger Rag for me!"

Thanks all for the info re: icing sugar/powdered sugar.

I just found it so odd that we would call the same thing something totally different!

I've got to get der Brucer moving, if we're going to get to the store for stuff for dinner.  I'm thinking chili, since it's so chilly.

Meryl Streep.  Interesting.

Oh and re: BOXING DAY.

I'm quite curious about the shopping situation in different places.

In Canada this is the biggest shopping day of the year. And today was no exception.

The malls are only allowed to open at 1pm (at least in Quebec).  But Chapters (the large bookstore) and anything that sells groceries can open at 10am.

So for the first year we headed out for 10am. The line at the electronics store (that opened at 1pm) was already quite long. The grocery store (which also sells dvds, toys, and xmas stuff) had a long line. But the book store had 5 people.

So we went there first (bookstore/calendars), where everything Xmas was 50% extra off.  Then to the grocery/toy store where many things were extra 60%.

Then at 11:30am we went to the mall across the street that opened at 1pm. It was already packed.

This is the part that always surprises me the most. But the stores were not opening for 1 1/2 hours, and yet there were more people than the days before xmas.

The food court was open however and packed.

But 2pm the mall was complete madness. There were more people than any other day of the year that is for sure.

Not too many stores opened early (usually Old Navy does).

My favorite stores are the Hallmark type ones. We always check out all the 50% off stuff.

No food, but much much fun was had in Red Bank, New Jersey, at Two River Theatre Company's production based on the lesser-known Dickens work The Ghost's Bargain.

Well, it was an absolutely wonderful Christmas dinner at Fred and Skip's last night, with some fabulous company to make it just the perfect afternoon / evening.

Skip made us a fantastic dinner --  a standing pork crown roast.  It was beautiful to look at and delicious to eat.  He also made this amazing potato dish with onion, herbs and cream and probably 5000 calories a bite - but fabulous.  Also a rice dish, and tomatoes in a balsamic vinegar marinade - just fabulous.  And that was after all the wonderful appetizers.

Skip is an amazing cook.  If you ever get the chance to partake in one of his dinners, just say yes!

And both Fred and Skip are the perfect hosts. Always welcoming. They make you feel like their home is your home.
