Had a momentary worry when I wasn't receiving the 480i & p definitions (don't you hate it when that happens), but it turns out this tv requires my DirectTV "native" setting to be off for it to get those resolutions (I'm sure you knew that--well at least MattH did ).

Sooo... Are you just going to wait and see how long it takes her to notice the new TV when she gets back?

I finally got to the end of BERLIN ALEXANDERPLATZ. An absorbing miniseries to be sure. That two hour epilogue was one of the most unusual things I've ever seen, and no wonder it scandalized Germans when it was broadcast on TV 27 years ago. Most of the epilogue is a surreal tour of the main character's mind as he has a breakdown after the murder of his girl friend. Fassbinder pulled no punches in putting on film the orgies, S&M rituals, all manner of bizarre imagery featuring all of the characters which had taken part in the previous 13 episodes - several of whom were dead at that point.

As I said, unusual.

Next, I watched the 65 minute "making of" documentary made by the film editor of movie who is not the director of the Fassbinder Estate. Some very fascinating footage filmed during the making of the series showing Fassbinder directing, planning shots, etc. Lots of more recent comments from the main actors in the series, all four of them still living and with vivid memories of the pleasures of the shoot.

Thanks for all the Vibes for my brother, Mike, and his family. I got a brief update today from him, and they're all doing fine, doing better. However, the coming week could be a bit "interesting" for lack of a better word - and also to be purposely ambiguous. Let's just hope that Time does indeed heal all wounds.

I should be able to finish with the ALEXANDERPLATZ set tomorrow. There are two more featurettes and then that original movie version of the novel. That should make an interesting contrast to the miniseries I've been watching for the last four days.

I just got in from a mandatory staff meeting at Borders, which was quite well organized, informative, entertaining and surprising.
In the manager's employee recommendation portion, my name was called with nine others: we had the top percentage of Borders Rewards "sales" for the month of October! 65% of my sales included the "sale" of a Borders Rewards Card. . .and I've only been on the register TWO AND A HALF DAYS! Needless to say I'm happy to have been "honored" already - and to get a free cafe beverage for my efforts. (Coffee is already free, but we do have to pay for espresso-based beverages).

Went to my friend Jim's house tonight and he made T-Bone steaks which were very yummilicious. The we watched a $1 dvd that I picked up at Target today which contained an episode each of the old game shows QUEEN FOR A DAY, TO TELL THE TRUTH, WHAT'S MY LINE, I'VE GOT A SECRET, and a few others.
