I ended my evening watching last night's LAW & ORDER. It was a mess of a case and trial but an intriguing conclusion.

I always liked Janis Ian. She and Dory previn could always perk me up in the 70s!

I tried to no avail to  find a link to the Simpsons clip where "At Seventeen" was sung as an up-tempo during a beauty pageant.

Really? That's very funny. Back in the mid-1970s, Janis and Dory could make me suicidal before one side of an LP was over. I still love 'em both. "At seventeen" and "Lady with The Braid" were such total downers. and Janis' song "and in the winter extra blankets for the cold." They still get me weepy.

I do believe I'm going to go watch RENT: FILMED LIVE ON BROADWAY.

(I do know two people in that final cast from their days at CMU).

Anyone have any opinions on this particular film version?

Stupendous.  Much better than the "real" film, not that that's much of a challenge.

"In The Winter" used to be the "pop song" of choice for some musical theatre students.  Great song, but, yes, depressing.

I used to play and sing In the Winter over and over and over.   Both on the record and on the piano.  I loved Between the Lines too.

I hear those songs and 60s things like "Four Strong Winds" and don't know if it's the sadness of the song or my lost youth I'm weeping over.

Umm... We didn't need that.  Well, I didn't need that.

Me, neither.

My earlier inclination this evening was to write to Fox about preempting "Bones" for the NAACP Image Awards because it seems to me to be an outmoded organization.

Now this.  Perhaps it's still needed after all.

Twitter is very "noisy" right now with news from Buffalo. The various news outlets are releasing updates, and there are also people near the scene of the crash describing what they're seeing.  :-\

I always liked Janis Ian. She and Dory previn could always perk me up in the 70s!

I've noted that IMDb says that Dory and Andre were married from 1959 to 1970, yet she went by "Dory Langdon" in the early 60s (born, according to IMDb, Dory "Langan" in 1925).  Any idea when she changed her name professionally?  Two of her Oscar nominations ("Pepe" and "Two for the Seesaw") were under "Dory Langdon" and a third, in 1966, was under "Dory Previn".

I first sat up and took notice of her with her work on "Inside Daisy Clover".

From the "Things I Learned When I Used To Run A Sheet Music Store"...

She started going by Dory Previn in 1965, shortly after her nervous breakdown.  -Which was brought on in part due to her severe fear of flying.  By that time André Previn's conducting career had kicked into high gear, and due to her fear of flying, she did not join him on his travels.

Levity?  Satirical?  Well...

I guess it is/was all in the timing.

After a day here on HHW that has once again demonstrated the POWER of words, well...

Just remember, there are reasons why people have left this site.  It's not a matter of being "too sensitive" or not being able to "lighten up".  It's a matter of not feeling comfortable or welcome anymore.

*And, technically speaking, I'm "colored" too.
